Sahyadri Celebrates the 71st Independence Day
The 71st celebration of our Independence Day was viewed with joy and pride by the staff and students of Sahyadri. Mr. B Shrinath Samaga, Manager, Human Resources, Hinduja Global Solutions, Mangaluru, Chief Guest, hoisted the national flag after which the gathered students, faculty members and the staff sang the national anthem with pride.
Mr. B Shrinath Samaga is in the HR domain for the last 15 years with an exposure to IT & ITES Sectors. He has prior experience at IBM, iGate, Artech Infosystems and Mphasis Pvt Ltd. The Student Council of Sahyadri was introduced to the guests by Mr. Balakrishna SS, Vice-Principal. While addressing the gathering, Mr. Shrinath, expressed his delight to see the upcoming leaders who are going to make a difference to the nation. He mentioned that Independence is not only for the nation but also to our self. He urged all to grow up to the fullest potential to make one’s career and one’s life.
Mr. Preetham Hegde, Head of IT, Mayor’s Office, New York City also graced the occasion. He has graduated from the Harvard University. While speaking to the audience, he expressed his happiness to be back to India after 26 years and also to view the Independence Day Celebration. He mentioned that there were fewer opportunities during his course of study unlike the opportunities made available at Sahyadri and that the students should grab them with both hands for their progress. He re-iterated that one should seek independence of mind and the soul should belong to one place. What you feel inside is important. He also urged the students to develop a sense of belonging to the country.
Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation, appreciated the presence of Mr. B Shrinath Samaga who has recruited highest number of Sahyadrians for his organization & Mr. Preetham Hegde who is one of the most connected person’s with the rest of the world. He said that these days, it is unfortunate that we treat Independence Day as a Holiday and not as a Festival. He re-iterated that thousands of people sacrificed their lives for our freedom and it is a day to remember their contribution to the nation. He stimulated the crowd to create awareness among the generations to come about the gift of freedom given by our forefathers.
The Achievers of 2016-17 in extracurricular activities like Sports, Cultural & Scouts & Guides were felicitated on the auspicious occasion of Independence Day.
Post the formal Independence Day Programme, the students and staff showcased their talent in a cultural programme.
MBA Student Project wins the “Project of the Year” award in the Seminar of KSCST at NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte
A student project titled – “Cost Benefit Analysis of Bio Digester Installed at Sahyadri Food Court” undertaken by MBA students - Mr. Sharook B, Ms. Sayona A Joseph, Mr. Wilson Mascarenhas & Ms. Moksha D S and guided by Dr. K Vidyavathi, Professor, Department of Business Administration was adjudged as one of the outstanding projects of the year and was selected for the “Project of the Year” award during the Seminar/Exhibition of Student Project Programme (40th Series) of Karnataka State Council for Science & Technology, Bengaluru held at NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte. This project was supported by Karnataka State Bio Energy Development Board, Government of Karnataka. The participating colleges were Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru, MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, Jnana Vikas Institute of Technology, Bidadi & Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur and Sahyadri MBA has emerged as winners.

Commemoration of World Organ Donation Day
World Organ Donation Day was observed in Sahyadri Campus with an Awareness Talk for the First Year Engineering Students on “Organ Donation” by Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor. The objective of the awareness talk was to commemorate World Organ Donation day in the campus, to give awareness about organ donation and its uses to the society, to eradicate the myths and misconceptions of organ donations and also encouraging students and faculty to take a pledge to donate organs.
Chairman speaks to the B.E. new entrants during the Orientation Program
First batch of Orientation session for the new entrants to the engineering stream was held in the Campus. Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, oriented the students, briefing them on the overall growth of the college since the inception. He basically stressed on acceptance of the engineering course. He stated that engineering is a process of learning the concepts, rather than only studying. He emphasized on the leadership quality building in an individual and stated its importance in terms of being employable. He also stated that Companies are currently looking forward to hiring the leaders than just employees.
Orientation programme organized in the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering
The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized an orientation programme for third semester mechanical engineering students. The event was graced by Prof. S S Balakrishna, Vice-Principal and Dr J.V. Gorbal, Dean Academics. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Balakrishna congratulated the students for selecting a branch as diverse as mechanical engineering. He also spoke on the role of mechanical engineers in the society and advised the students to harness necessary skills which would help them to carve their niche. Dr. Gorbal enthralled the gathering with his speech. Prof. Mahesh B. Davangeri, Head of the Department gave an overview of the department which was followed by a session on sustainable development by Prof. Ravichandra. The event would span over four days which will include sessions from various vertical heads with the aim of providing necessary exposure to the third semester students.
Information Science & Engineering Department organizes “STAISE-GO GREEN”
The Information Science & Engineering Department and STAISE, Student Association organized “STAISE-GO GREEN” event in the campus. “STAISE-GO GREEN” is an initiative to create awareness about conserving natural resources for future generations and creating healthy & pollution free environment. As a part of the awareness programme, the faculty members and student volunteers planted trees & seed balls around Sahyadri campus. Mr. Devdas Hegde, Trustee supported the initiative. Mr. Naveen Pilar, Head of Art & Culture Department assisted the team in organizing this event.

Unisoft Infotech Pvt. Ltd. visited Sahyadri to conduct Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for 2017 Batch. 32 candidates had participated in the pool.

Ms. Ridhvika Shetty has joined the Dept. of Business Administration as an Assistant Professor. She has completed her B.Com in SIES College, Mumbai, Mumbai University & MBA from GNIMS, Mumbai, AICTE Delhi. Her area of specialization is Finance.

It is predicted that in the next 5 years there would be more than 5 lakhs jobs created. Hence the need of the hour is to equip the younger generation with the required skills and make them industry ready. In this context, the workshop was organized for all Academic Deans, HOD’s, and Director’s of educational institutions. Emphasis of the workshop was on the procedure of making salesforce.com as a strategic alliance partner of the college and also the certification programmes offered by salesforce.com.
Deputed as a Resource Person at ICAR - Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mangaluru
Dr. C. K. Manjunath, Prof. of Humanities & Administrator was deputed as a Resource person to ICAR - Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mangaluru to facilitate a session on Ethics and Agriculture for Agricultural input dealers. It is a 48 weeks programme which gives them a certificate in Diploma in Agriculture Extension for input dealers (DAESI). Dealers from all over Dakshina Kannada District participated in the programme.

AUM Animation Studio conducted the Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for 2017 Batch at Sahyadri. Two Sahyadrians have been shortlisted.
Orientation workshop for Third Semester Electronics & Communication Engineering
Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering organized a Three-Day orientation workshop for third semester ECE students. An overview of the department, areas of expertise of faculty members, application of electronics in real world and the purpose of verticals were conveyed to the students by Dr. Ashwath Rao, Head of the Department. The students were given a wider perspective of different technologies in electronics field. Emphasis was also given on the necessity to learn concepts other than regular curriculum, facilitated through specialized labs made available in the institution. This would benefit students in procuring lucrative jobs. Each vertical heads along with the team members delivered the scope and relevance of the subjects and introduced the labs related to their verticals which the students will be utilizing over the next three years.
The Embedded and Sensor System vertical group provided the students an exposure on embedded systems and its application in various fields of real world. The members shared imperative information, eye-opening facts and opportunities that lay ahead of them for the purpose of knowledge both in terms of theory and practice (projects) in the field of embedded system and sensors.
In the workshop by Communication and Control system vertical, students were exposed to basic knowledge about communication system, transmission line, antennas for different applications, ways of securing the information during transmission, advantages of digital systems and real time applications of control systems.
The VLSI and Nano Science vertical group gave an introduction to VLSI and cryptography which focused more on VLSI Design flow. An introduction to digital circuits and its scope in VLSI design along with Back end design flow of analog circuits was presented. Finally, the vertical concluded with applications, job and research opportunities in VLSI and allied areas.
The signal processing vertical gave a glimpse of different subjects using videos and presentation. The significance of machine learning, analog & digital signals, Digital Image processing and Matlab were also explained.
