Chairman addresses the second batch of B.E. New entrants on the Orientation program

Second batch of Orientation session for the new entrants to the engineering stream was held in the Campus. Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, oriented the students, briefing them on the overall growth of the college since the inception. He basically stressed on acceptance of the engineering course. He stated that engineering is a process of learning the concepts, rather than only studying. He briefed on the importance of following a prescribed dress code on campus as appearance makes a lot of difference. He emphasized on the leadership quality building in an individual and stated its importance in terms of being employable. He also stated that Companies are currently looking forward to hiring the leaders than just employees.

He provided additional information regarding the Campus buzz and Newsletter. He advised the students to be focused on the future and to work hard towards achieving it. He insisted the students to learn the basic life skills that are required for an individual to be self dependent, reliable and employable. He mentioned about the platform provided to the students to compete at the national and international level events. Lastly he concluded stating that one should aim at being a leader and bring about positive changes in the society.

He advised the students to share the everyday happenings in their life with their parents at the end of the day.

He suggested to be focused on the future and to work hard towards achieving it. He said skill development is the need of the hour. He mentioned about the platform provided to the students to compete at the national and international level events. He concluded the session with a note on social media awareness.

Bridge Course for MBA Batch 2017-19

Day One Bridge Course for MBA Day One Bridge Course for MBA During the Day One of Bridge Course for MBA Batch 2017-19, Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Dept. Of Business Administration welcomed the students and in her talk, mentioned the key notes regarding the achievements of the institution in placements, pedagogy adopted, the faculty blend of both industry & academics and also about the uniqueness of Sahyadri MBA. Post this, Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor facilitated a session on Self Awareness which urged the students to evaluate self before they begin their MBA course. Meanwhile, the students also undertook online personality test through www.16personalities.com. They were then divided in 10 Teams accommodating a blend of student personalities in a group. The afternoon session was facilitated by Mr. Abhijith Karkera, Managing Partner & Marketing Head, VIBRANT MINDS on Communication and Presentation.

Day Two of Bridge Course MBA Batch 2017-19 The second day of Bridge Course started with a session on “Self: Growth & Development” by Prof. Mithun Ullal, Dept. of Business Administration. Students had to prepare a report on “Where they see themselves in the next 10 years”. This was followed by word and picture apperception test. This activity identified the weakness in students thinking and exposed their shortcomings. The session contributed to their thinking & creativity. Students felt the emergence of a new dimension of their personality. The second session was facilitated by Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor on “Goal Setting”. His session included process in goal setting and prioritizing goals. He mainly focused on how to set SMART Goals. The session was activity based and students actively participated in all the activities. Post lunch, Mr. Abhijith Karkera, Managing Partner & Marketing Head, VIBRANT MINDS facilitated a session on Leadership. He highlighted the qualities & types of a leader & also on the type of leadership that students should develop.

Day Three of Bridge Course MBA Batch 2017-19 The third day of MBA Bridge Course started with “Colloquium on Quantitatives in Life”, a session facilitated by Prof. Ragavendra Prabhu and Dr. Rashmi Kodikal, Dept. of Business Administration. This session highlighted the essence of numerical on one’s life and how numbers could be made interesting. The session was segregated into five segments namely - See saw, Face off, Rapid fire, Chanakya and Face the phrase. Students played games which tested their dexterity in quantitative skills and logical reasoning ability. The second session was facilitated by Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor on “Body Language”. In his session, he stressed on how body language plays a key role in communication. He also apprised the students on the various perceptions of body language across the world. Post lunch, Prof. Samarth Shenoy, Dept. of Business Administration, in his session on “Best Manager”, enlightened the students on finding a manager in one’s own self. He also mentioned that decision making ability is a prime trait of a good Manager. He introduced the students to “Power of Perception” and mentioned that managers should understand the situation and then make a judgement.

Day Four began with a session from Prof. Sushma V, Dept. Of Business Administration on “Sahyadri 2030”, a team activity to bring out Creative Thinking, followed by presentation on this imaginary topic by students. It was encouraging to see the budding leaders present their dreams for Sahyadri 2030. Though the creative ideas were illusory – without any boundaries for thinking, the sense of belonging among the students towards the institution was visible overwhelmingly. As it was a group activity, the students showcased the essence of Team Management, Time Management, Innovation & Creativity and also their competitive spirit. Post this session, Dr. Vidyavathi K, Dept. Of Business Administration conducted Business & Economics Quiz focussing on Current Affairs. Afternoon Session was facilitated by Mr. Manoj Luis on “Stress Management”. He created a situation of stress for the students and evaluated on how they overcome the situation instantaneously.

Guest Talk on “Opportunities & Challenges in Mechanical Engineering”

Mr. Sundaram Moorthy Sunder, CEO, Caliper Engineering and Lab Pvt Ltd addressed the Mechanical Engineering students of third semester. He spoke extensively on the opportunities for mechanical engineers across various sectors including defence, oil exploration and aerospace. He emphasised on the importance of various subjects and the need for understanding the basic concepts which would help them in appreciating the subject. He also explained how India is going to be the next manufacturing hub and called on students to utilize the opportunities to the greatest extent. The talk was concluded with an interactive question and answer session.

Orientation Programme, A Road Map for Second Year Civil Engineering students

During the Day One, Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal enlightened the students on the significance of knowing the course subjects individually and applying it collectively so as to bridge the gap between theory and practical applications. This orientation programme will guide students to get a holistic view of civil engineering branch and integrate all the civil engineering subjects.

Dr. Premanand Shenoy gave a brief presentation regarding the changing trends in civil engineering. Mr. Sunil Kumar K, Head of Civil Engineering Department welcomed the students to the new academic year. The Orientation Programme aims to provide the glimpse of civil engineering subjects and link it to the student’s future. They shall also be briefed about the four different verticals of civil engineering and mapping them to the subjects and labs.

The orientation programme continued for the second day with brief introduction about different verticals of civil engineering branch. The verticals included construction technology, structural engineering, earth science & transportation and environmental hydraulics & irrigation. Each vertical was mapped to the subjects and labs, which will be learnt during the course of their study. It will streamline student’s area of interest for their future and also in choosing their electives in higher semester. It was encouraging to see the inquisitive minds keen to know the insight of all verticals.

During the third day, different verticals were mapped with the various industries. The students got enriched with information related to several job openings in their future. Each vertical had unique job opportunities and students were encouraged to channelize their job interest. At the end of the day, faculty escorted the students to the various labs of civil branch. The students were eager to know about the equipments they will be using in their higher semesters.

NBA Workshop for MBA Faculty

NBA Workshop for MBA Faculty Workshop on National Board of Accreditation (NBA) was facilitated by Prof. Ravichandra Rangappa, Dept of Mechanical Engineering for the MBA faculty. Concept of NBA, NBA Evaluation Process, Outcome Based Education, Student Centric Education, Self Assessment criteria and the importance of NBA was shed light on during the workshop.

Engineering Student registers as an Organ Donor

Ms. Deeksha N, first year Electronics & Communications Engineering student has pledged to donate all her organs. She has registered herself as a donor with the Government Nodel Organ Donation Agency Jeevasarthakathe under the supervision and guidance of Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor. Sahyadri is proud of her heroic gesture and applaud her decision.

ISE Dept & Sahyadri NSS unit jointly organized GO-GREEN at Govt. High School, Kumpala

Sahyadri NSS unit jointly organized GO-GREEN The student association STAISE of department of Information Science & Engineering in association with NSS unit of Sahyadri organized “Go -GREEN” event at Government High School, Kumpala. This was initiated as a part of Corporate Society Responsibility (CSR). On this occasion, trees were planted in the school campus. Head Master of the School, Mr. Vishwanath welcomed the representatives from Sahyadri. Dr. Shamanth Rai, Head of ISE Department addressed the students regarding saving the nature for the future generations. Ms. Jayapadmini Kanchan explained the students about organic seed balls and how to plant them. Every student of the school was distributed with seed balls which were supposed to be planted in their houses. Mr. Naveen Pilar, In charge of Sahyadri NSS Unit, Ms. Ramya B S, and Ms. Madhura Hegde, faculty of ISE department interacted with the school students.
