Three teams clear the Verbattle 2017-Senior Verbattle 2017-Senior, Mangaluru Zonal Selection Round was held on 23rd August 2017 at Ladies Club, Mangaluru. Out of the 35 teams that participated from and around Mangaluru including Shimoga and Chickamagalur, 6 teams were from Sahyadri. 3 teams from Sahyadri cleared the Mangaluru Zonal Selection Round. The students who will participate in the next round are

The next round, Verbattle Karnataka 2017 will be held at Garden City College, Bengaluru from 5th September to 14th September, 2017. The last round at the national level, Verbattle Debating Championship 2017 India Finals will be held in Bengaluru from 20th Nov - 24th Nov, 2017.

Verbattle is a registered trademark owned by Verbattle Foundation, which is an international non-profit organization with partners in the United States of America, the European Union, India and Canada. Verbattle is the largest, most exciting and unique debate and dialogue platform. Its fundamental purpose is to facilitate thought and opinion exchange in addition to its primary goal of promoting democratic values in the society.

Verbattle, established in 2005, began with a state-level competition in Karnataka. Till date, Verbattle has conducted over 40 large scale debate competitions across India and Europe. Verbattle started South India-level competitions with ‘Verbattle South’ in 2012. It has today grown as India’s biggest professional debating organization.

MBAs receive a Consultation Project at Epitas, LLP, Mangaluru

MBAs receive a Consultation Project at Epitas, LLP, Mangaluru Epitas, LLP, having its business office in the campus of Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) Mangaluru, would be taking up projects on Robotics soon. In order to understand the market in and around Mangaluru, they would like to conduct a research on Robotics in specific sectors like Banking, Manufacturing, IT, Academic Institutions and so on. They have approached Sahyadri MBA to depute students who would take up this assignment as a Consultation Project in teams of two. Students would design a Questionnaire, Administer the Questionnaire & Collect Data, Analyze the Data, Prepare the Report and also present the Market Research findings to Epitas LLP. These students shall not only be awarded with a certificate, appreciating their efforts, but will also be evaluated for the “Best Team Project Award”. The institution shall be given a letter of appreciation for the support rendered through students & mentors. Prof. Sushma V, Prof. Deepak Bangera & Prof. Samarth Shenoy from the Department of Business Administration shall mentor these projects.

One-Day Leadership Development Programme for Council members of Academic year 2017-18 One-Day Leadership Development Programme was organized for the Council members of the academic year 2017-18.

Mr. Ramani Venkat, Co-Founder of Varnaaz leadership factory who has 25 years of experience in MNC’s & corporate training facilitated the programme. The main focus of the training was conveying the importance of working as a team, appreciate people, time management and also out of the box creative thinking.

First session had insight on brand value which included ideas on brand value creation. He mentioned that every single human being even without unique traits are considered to have brand value, however the instances in which people remember them is what defines as a brand value for that person. He also touched upon the relevance of having a vision and working towards it. He enlightened the council members on how marketing is different from sales. He briefed on the leadership qualities which have to be inculcated such as communication skills, responsibility taking, decision making, accept failure, Networking and also to keep an eye on the competitors.

He emphasised that Communication is imperative in almost all spheres of Leadership like Strategising, Research, innovation, advertising, after sales service and so on. Various activities conducted by the trainer focussed on overcoming fear and also on how to be successful by being a co-operative individual with others. It also brought out the concept of Equation of power.

Three-Day Placement Workshop for MBAs Three-Day Placement Workshop for MBAs Final year MBA students are undergoing a Three-Day Placement Workshop facilitated by three Trainers from “Practical Trainers”, Bengaluru. It is a leading training provider in Bengaluru with experience of training more than 10,000 students across various campuses. Mr. Amit Gupta, Engineering from Delhi School of Economics and MBA from IIT Chennai has an overall experience of more than 12 years in Corporate where he leads the Marketing Team of Campus hiring of Wipro. Currently, Amit works for IBM.

Mr. Sampat Kumar, an industry practitioner with close to 20 years of experience has spent majority of his career in the area of Human Resource Management with experience in companies like Mphasis, Bosch, Software AG. He currently heads the HR function at Lapp India Pvt Ltd. Manish Jha is a Sales & Marketing champion who did his MBA from Welingkar Institute of Management. With over 12 years of experience in Insurance, Consulting, Travel & Food-Tech, Manish leads the team at “Practical Trainers”.

Day One of the workshop had a session on Career in Marketing, the skill sets of the profile, job opportunities in Marketing and also inputs on how students should prepare themselves for a Marketing Profile. Post this session, students were apprised on frequently asked questions during a face to face interview and how these questions should be addressed in the most pleasing manner. Group Discussion rounds were also held.

Day Two of the workshop had a session on Career in Finance, the skill sets of the profile, job opportunities in Finance and also inputs on how students should prepare themselves for a Finance Profile. Post this, students were hand held on Resume Building. They were apprised on the components of a Resume, the DO’s and Dont’s in a Resume, and also on how the details of Internship and Projects undertaken should be highlighted in their resume. Group Discussion rounds were also held with one to one feedback given to the students.

Concluding Day of Placement Workshop for MBAs Day Three of the workshop had a session on Career in HR, the skill sets of the profile, job opportunities in HR and also inputs on how students should prepare themselves for a HR Profile. Post this; students had Group Discussion rounds with feedback being shared on the strengths of each student and areas of improvement.

During the three days of Placement workshop, students have been assisted with frequently asked questions in a Face to Face Interview, the framework in which these questions need to be answered, Resume format with focus on internship projects undertaken, current topics on Group Discussion and tips on clearing Group Discussion round of interview. All these sessions were practical oriented wherein students designed their own Resume incorporating their achievements and strengths, came forward to participate in Group Discussion round along with their peers and also played a role of an interviewee to get a feel of a real time interview situation.

Faculty members were also a part of this workshop and shall take all inputs to a next level by regular practice during the course of their study.

Faculty attends TEDx Talk at Nitte University Faculty attends TEDx Talk at Nitte University Prof. Gayathri Shetty, Department of Business Administration and Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor attended TEDx Talk organized by Nitte University at their Deralakatte Medical College Campus. Eight speakers namely - Deep Bajaj, Entrepreneur- Peebuddy, Dr. Vishal Ravi, IAS Officer, Director, Directorate of Municipal Administration, Government of Karnataka, Ms. Archana Suresh, Founder, Bring a Smile Foundation, Dr. Arvind Bhateja, Neurosurgeon & Founder, Giving Back, an NGO, Ms. Shruthi Chaturvedi, Journalist & Founder of Chaipaani Blog, Mr. Pawan Kumar, Director & Filmaker and Mr. Vishal Batra, Banker & twin brother of Captain Vikram Batra who was an officer of the Indian Army inspired the audience with their stories and four renowned performers like Nehha Bhatnagar, Classical Dancer & founder of Sarvam Foundation, Mr. Nithish Bharathi , Sand Artist, Mr. Kannan, The Mentalist and Toto Club mesmerized the audience with their performance.

Day Six of Bridge Course MBA Batch 2017-19 On the Day Five of Bridge Course MBA Batch 2017-19, Prof. Ramesh K G, Department of Business Administration facilitated a session on “Daily News Analysis”. He gave inputs on how news is analyzed in terms of its history, importance and impact. Students were made to pick up news events by accessing various news websites. A quiz was conducted for the students so that they connect various news events, personalities and its impact on organization and society. Second session was on “Self Esteem Development” by Prof. Padmanabha B, Department of Business administration. It was an activity based session on breakthrough thinking, building self esteem, self identification, self respect & celebrating small success. Each activity was aimed at analyzing the strengths of individuals.

Post lunch, session was held on team building and group living by Mr. Ankith Kumar, Student Counsellor. Various activities, during the session, brought out the importance of working as a team. Students were also apprised of the difference between group and a team.

The sixth day started with a session on “Communication and Values” by Prof. Gayathri Shetty, Dept. of Business Administration. It was an activity based session focussing on values and their importance in every individual’s life and how as students they need to inculcate these values in their day to day life. The activities conducted brought out learning outcomes related to communication, time management and analytical skills. The second session was facilitated by Dr. C K Manjunath, Prof. of Humanities & Administrator on “Attitude and Aptitude”. He conducted various activities emphasizing the need of right attitude in college & professional life. Post lunch, a session was facilitated by Mr. Sharath, Edelweiss Financial Services on Share Market. The session highlighted the evolution of share market, function of share market and introduction to major stock markets of India (BSE and NSE). He also demonstrated the LIVE stock market process.

Final Day of Bridge Course MBA 2017-19The concluding day of the Bridge Course began with an Awareness programme regarding an online game - "The Bluewhale" facilitated by Mr. Prashant Baliga, an entrepreneur, who is also an alumnus of Sahyadri MBA. During this session, students had to present their ideas to tackle this current issue. Post this, Prof. Deepak Bangera, Dept. of Business Administration facilitated a session on Crisis Management, wherein students were given real life situations of crisis, students had to play a role of a manager & take decisions.

Before winding up Bridge Course, students were given an opportunity to share their feedback on the week long Bridge Course in the presence of Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Dept. of Business Administration and all faculty members of the department. It was encouraging to hear from students that they had immense learning opportunities through the well planned management activities. They even expressed how these sessions instilled confidence to take up leadership roles. They have been able to evaluate self and chalk out actions on the areas that need self development. Students also appreciated the manner in which they were grouped into teams which has widened their scope for development. Principal, Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, in his concluding remarks, urged the students to build up on “eustress”, wherein once they commit, they should make it a point to achieve it. He also emphasised on the importance to remain grounded with humility, humbleness & honesty. Prof. Padmanabha B, Dept. of Business Administration coordinated the Bride Course for MBA 2017-19 Batch.

Mozilla Club and ISE Department organize WEBVR workshop Mozilla Club, Mangaluru in association with Department of Information Science and Engineering organized a Workshop on Web VR (Virtual Reality). Web VR is one of the events that are getting Mozillians excited all around the world and it helps in connecting with students at universities all over. Tech speaker from Mozillian pool - Ms. Shaguftha Metwani conducted the workshop for the registered participants. The speaker used Firefox browser for Web VR demo and hands-on development using A Frame library.

Web VR camp in Mangaluru was a one day hands-on workshop. Over 230 students from various engineering colleges of Mangaluru participated in the workshop. At the end of the workshop, students developed applications on Virtual Reality and presented it. Based on the innovative ideas that students showcased, top 8 were awarded with Mozilla swags, VR headsets and Google Cardboards.

Final Day of Orientation Programme - “Road Map to Civil Engineering”

Road Map to Civil Engineering During the final day of orientation programme, students were briefed about GATE aptitude; value added courses, role and nature of SPSS projects and departmental placements. The session also included panel discussion, wherein renowned Engineers Mr. Ujwal D’Souza, Dr. Premanand Shenoy, Mr. Jayaram, Mr. Sunil Kumar K, Mr. Sanjith A were in the panel.

Mr. Ujwal D’Souza, Director (O&A) Mariam Projects Pvt Ltd, Mangaluru was the Chief Guest of the Valedictory Ceremony along with Mr. J V Gorabal, Dean - Academics. Mr. Ujwal D’Souza, while addressing the students, mentioned about the seven keys of civil engineering which is also known as CPD (Continual Professional Development). These 7 keys are most critical and should be instilled in every student to become a good engineer. His life experiences of being a civil engineer gave an intense conclusion to the orientation programme - “Road Map to Civil Engineering”.

MBA student appreciated for the contribution to an NGO during Internship Aamir Hassan Yousuf, second year MBA student interned from "U&I", an NGO in Bengaluru. He worked with the HR team & was allotted the task of recruiting volunteers. U&I also gave him an opportunity to be a volunteer in a school named Church Jubilee Memorial Study Center (CJMSC).

CJMSC is a school located in Baiyapannahalli, Bengaluru which focuses on education for the children from the slum within the locality. Aamir assisted students in their academics as well as coordinated with the Montessori school. He believes that “Gaining knowledge is important but passing on the knowledge to the needy is our moral duty”.
