Sahyadri Celebrates the 72nd Independence Day

Sahyadri Conclave - Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru

The 72nd celebration of our Independence Day was viewed with joy and pride by the staff and students of Sahyadri. Ms.Jyotika Alva, Head- HR & Director, Tetherfi, Chief Guest, hoisted the national flag after which the gathered students, faculty members and the staff sang the national anthem with pride.The Student Council of Sahyadri was then introduced to the guests by Prof.Balakrishna SS, Vice-Principal.

Sahyadri  2018 Jyotika is currently handling India Centre as the Director.  Prior to this, she worked with Flexiresources as Asst. Manager Operations. She has also worked as a Team Lead for Recruitment at Elgiva Business Solutions. She was also an HR Manager at Yogika Enterprise and Blue Skies Pvt Ltd.A large part of her experience lies in start-up scenarios where execution frameworks do not exist and there is high value on creating these frameworks and policies. She has also been a part of Talent Acquisition Team in most of her assignments with focus on operations & engagement along with resourcing activities to fulfil project execution needs.

While addressing the gathering, Jyotika, remembered the struggle that our forefathers went through in Sahyadri  2018order to free us from the British. She said this shows the strength of our country and urged students to set their mind towards a common goal and we can achieve anything. She also spoke on Nation Building which is achieved through Education. Education can make an identity for self as well as the nation. She stimulated students to do something for the nation with the Education they have. She also encouraged students to represent themselves in International forums which will be a great contribution to our country. She concluded her talk by asking students to raise their voice against injustice and also work closely with NGOs and conduct sessions for people who are deprived of opportunities.
Post her talk, the National Song – ‘VandeMataram’ was sung which instils the essence of Unit is Strength.

The Achievers of 2017-18 in extracurricular activities like Sports, Cultural & Scouts & Guides were felicitated on the auspicious occasion of Independence Day. Mr.ManjunathBhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation was also present during the celebration.

MBA Project wins the Best Project of the Year Award 2017-18 in the 41st Series of Seminar & Exhibition of Student Project Programme held at BIET, Davangere

MBA Project wins the Best Project of the Year Award 2017-18 MBA Students – Prajwala K, Anupama P S and Jeevitha under the guidance of Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA won The Best Project Award of the Year 2017-18 at the Annual Seminar and Exhibition of Student Project Programme organized by Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) in Bapuji Institute of Engineering & Technology, Davanagere. The title of the project is – “Capital Budgeting Decision on Installation of Bio-Fuel Plant with special reference to Bio-Diesel from Rubber seeds”.

Er. Ravinder Gour, Scientist and Member Secretary (State S & T Programme) Technology Development & Transfer Division, Dept. of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi and Dr. H Honne Gowda, Special Director (Technical), Dept. of Science & Technology and also the Managing Director, KSTePS, Govt. of Karnataka were the Chief Guests of the programme.

Delegate from Vidya Rashmi Group of Institution visits Sahyadri Campus

Delegate from Vidya Rashmi Group Mr. Ashwin L Shetty, Chief Administrator of Vidya Rashmi Group of Institutions, Savanoor visited Sahyadri and interacted with the Chairman Mr. Manjunath Bhandary and other representatives from the in-house industries of the campus.
Mr. Shetty was thrilled with the various initiatives executed in the campus and expressed his appreciation for the learning environment developed at the campus through blend of theoretical and practical aspects.

• Mr. Shetty is a ME Graduate specialized in Areospace at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.
• NATO certified Engineer who worked for Airbus as Technical Manager in France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Australia and China
• Worked as Project Manager for Road Bridges at Wagners Composite Fibre Technologies, Toowomba, Australia
• Currently, the Administrator of a non-profit rural school called VidyaRashmi Group of Institutions, Savanoor with the aim to transform rural kids into believers and problem solvers
• Apart from his social work at Vidya Rashmi, Mr. Ashwin is a director at Adarsha co-operative society and is also fully engaged with Agriculture and Farming activities at his home town.

MBA Faculty invited as Chief Guest for the Student Council Inauguration of GFGC, PunjalakatteThe Student Council activities of Government First Grade College, Punjalakatte were inaugurated by Mr. Ananth Pai, Executive Director, Bharath Group, Mangaluru. Prof. Girish, Department of Business Administration was the Chief Guest of the programme. Mr. Ananth Pai called the students to involve in all extra-curricular activities for self development and informed the students that Bharath Group would be keen to assist them in placements. Prof. Girish M asked the students to conduct activities and develop leadership skills. He also extended support on behalf of Sahyadri MBA Department in students development and said that MS Excel training and industry visit at Sahyadri Campus would be scheduled shortly. Principal of the College, Prof. Ganapathi Bhat thanked Mr. Ananth Pai and Prof. Girish M for sparing their valuable time and sharing their thoughts.

Dr. Bharath Y Shetty, MLA of Mangaluru North was the Chief Guest, Capt. Ganesh Karnik, Former MLC was the Guest of Honour and Sr. Carmel Rita AC, Provincial Superior of the Apostolic Carmel, Karnataka Province was the President of the function.

After the formal inauguration, the dignitaries were led to the venue of Atal Tinkering Lab where Dr. Bharath Shetty inaugurated the lab by cutting the ribbon, while Fr. Stervin Fernando SCJ, the Superior of Maria Kripa, Betharam Fathers, blessed the lab.

The dignitaries, guests, few teachers of neighbouring schools and parents went round the lab where the students explained to them a few innovative models they had created like the 3D printer, hovercraft, automatic door lock, laser security alarm, remote controller car, street light using LDR etc. Mount Carmel Central School is one among the 3000 schools selected across the country by Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), New Delhi to establish Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) that encourages innovation thinking among young students.

Atal Tinkering Labs are established under the aegis of NITI Aayog, Government of India. ATL is a workspace where young minds can give shape to their ideas through hands-on do-it-yourself mode and learn innovation skills. The vision is to cultivate One Million children in India as Neoteric Innovators. The objective of this scheme is to foster curiosity, creativity, and imagination in young minds and inculcate skills such as design mindset, computational thinking, adaptive learning, physical computing etc. Students will get a chance to work with tools and equipment to understand what, how and why aspects of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

ATL would contain educational and learn “do it yourself” kits and equipment's on – science, electronics, robotics, open source micro controller boards, sensors, Internet of things (IoT), 3D printers etc.

Aerospace Standard NDT Lab opened at Sahyadri

Aerospace-Standard-NDT-Lab-opened-at-Sahyadri Sahyadri’s efforts to up skill students, continues by setting up “Aerospace Standard Non Destructive Testing Lab” in Caliper. This lab is equipped with the state of art latest equipments to do NDT using UV Light inspection at par with aerospace testing standards. The Centre is managed by certified industrial experts to impart skills to students as well as for testing customer products. Students will get benefitted by hands-on experience on live Industrial products, giving them an opportunity to be get certified in NDT through “The American Society for Non Destructive Testing (ASNT)” and become globally employable.

Research Articles of Dr. Fernandes receive 500 Citations in Google Scholar

TCS - CodeVita online Coding Test Research articles of Dr. Steven L Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, currently pursuing his Post-Doctoral Research at Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Alabama Birmingham, USA received 500 citations in Google scholar with h-index 13 and i10-index 17. Dr. Fernandes has thanked the management, colleagues and students of the institute for supporting him during his research work for the past 5 years. He has also welcomed all the new batches of engineering students to Sahyadri family.

TCS - CodeVita online Coding Test

TCS - CodeVita online Coding Test TCS - CodeVita online test was conducted at Sahyadri for the final year engineering students. A total of 75 students participated in the test.

CodeVita is world's largest coding contest being organized every year by TATA Consultancy Services Limited. The main objective for the contest is to identify passionate coders across the globe and sharpen their programming skills through some real-life computing practices. TCS CodeVita is TCS way of attracting young talented college students to adopt the culture of looking at programming as a sport and experience the joy of programming.

Civil Faculty attend a Eleven-Day GIAN course in SJCE, Mysuru Prof. Geetha S D & Prof. Kavyashree M P from Department of Civil Engineering have attended GIAN course on “Sustainable Roadways - Design, Construction and Maintenance” organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, SJCE, Mysuru. Prof. Rajib Basu Mallik from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, MA, USA had engaged the session on Sustainable roadway design concept, Recycling methods and Maintenance of different types of Roadways. Prof. A Veeraragavan, Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai, addressed the participants on Sustainable Roadways construction methods.

Padmanabha Prof. Padmanabha B from the Department of Business Administration participated in the Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Using Blended MOOCs in Management Education”. The programme was inaugurated by Ms. Usha Ganesan, Manager IIMBx. The first session was facilitated by Prof. PD Jose, Chairperson - Digital Learning on “Blended Learning Approaches”. He highlighted the changing landscape of Management Education and changing paradigm in 21st Century learning model. Next was a Master Class on Marketing Management by Prof. Ashis Mishra, IIM Bangalore. This was followed by workshop on Blended MOOCs by IIMBx MOOCs Team.

TCS - CodeVita online Coding Test Mr. Shashank R, First Year Engineering Student has made his mark in the field of Martial Arts – Taekwondo through his achievements. He has won the Bronze Medal in Poomsae, Junior, Under-17 category at QingDao Taekwondo International Open held in China. He has also participated in Kukkiwon Cup - Indian International Taekwondo Championship - 2017 held in New Delhi. Mr. Shashank R has attained the qualification as “National Referee” granted by the Taekwondo Federation of India.

Civil Engineering Faculty attends Five-Day GIAN Prof. Sanjith S Anchan, Dept of Civil Engineering attended a Five-Day GIAN Short term course on "BIOREMEDIATION FOR ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY" organized by Chemical Engineering Department, National Institute of Technology, Surathkal [NITK]. Dr. Pedro J J Alvarez, Professor Civil & Environmental Engineering Department, Rice University was the resource person of the programme. The courses exposed the participants to scientific and engineering principles of Bioremediation technologies for cleaning up of contaminated environment. The course also included an industrial visit to Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited [MRPL], Mangaluru.
