Sahyadri signs an MOU with Florida International University, USA
Sahyadri has been upgrading itself from time to time and has now taken a step forward towards enhancing Quality Education and Skill Development by signing MoU with America's foremost Florida International University. This MoU would enable the institution’s access to advanced deep-dive technology content in Machine Learning, Big Data and Analytics, Cloud Computing and Cyber Security. The large scope of the MoU will aim at assisting both students and faculty to collaborate with experts at FIU in learning, project, industry and further education. This MoU was possible only through the guidance and motivation of the World Renowned Ryder Professor Dr. S S Iyenger, enabling the institute to be at the Elite Group of Institutions.
Student Council inaugurated for the Academic Year 2018-19
SahyadriStudent Council for the Academic Year 2018-19 was inaugurated by Dr. Bharath Shetty Y, Member of Legislative Assembly, Mangaluru City North, by watering the plant as the symbolic representation of passing wisdom to the next generation. The inaugural began with a presentation about the Council members and their roles and responsibilities. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation, gave the opening remarks and urged the students to follow Role Models like Dr. Bharath Shetty and work towards building a better society through exemplary leadership. Prof. S S Balakrishna, Vice-Principal facilitated the installation of the Council members and Dr. Rajesha, Dean–Academics lead the students through their oath. Speaking to the students, Dr. Bharath Shetty called onto students to work for unity irrespective of what religion they follow or ideological differences that they have.He discussed about the current education system and that students must use the available opportunities to show their leadership skills. Thus, the student council for the academic year 2018-19 was officially inaugurated.
Mr. S L Boje Gowda, MLC of South-West Teacher’s Constituency visited Sahyadri
Mr. S L Boje Gowda along with Mr. Akshith Suvarna - JDS Youth President Dakshina Kannada District, visited Sahyadri and interacted with the Management and Staff. Mr. Boje Gowda expressed his delight to represent the Teaching community and thanked Sahyadri for casting their votes in the MLC Election. He encouraged the teaching fraternity to join hands with him to bridge any gap in the education system. He appreciated the infrastructure and Human Resource at Sahyadri and stimulated the team to submit a Proposal for organizing Faculty Development Programmes for teachers from rural areas.
Prof. Dr. D P Agrawal, Ex-Chairman of UPSC of India visits Sahyadri
Former Chairman of UPSC of India, Dr. D P Agrawal visited Sahyadri and interacted with faculty and students. Dr. D P Agrawal received his M.Tech and Ph.D. degrees from IIT Delhi. Prior to this, he graduated in Mechanical Engineering with honors from Aligarh Muslim University. He taught at department of mechanical engineering in IIT Delhi. Dr. Agrawal was the founder Director of the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management (IIITM), Gwalior.
During his session with the faculty, Dr. D P Agrawal emphasized on few issues centering on the Teaching profession. He re-iterated that the minimum requirement for teaching today is PhD and should focus on its completion. This will lead to consultancy projects thereby increasing the capacity to earn. He stressed the need to empower self in order to empower students. He encouraged faculty to identify tools that can enhance the skills of students. He stressed that faculty should make the learning experiences enjoyable for students. Lastly, he urged each one to think if they could come up with a business idea to start an industry in the Campus.
During his session with the students, Prof. D P Agrawal conveyed that, people in India are facing challenges in getting jobs based on their capability hence urged the students to plan their career, right from their initial semester. He further stated the importance of taking up Government and Public sector jobs in their respective disciplines. He suggested reading newspaper regularly and related books to get updated on the current trend and technologies in various fields. The importance of maintaining a diary for the activities and contribution done each day was also shared with students.
Dr. D P Agrawal would be at Sahyadri till Sep 2nd’18 and visit the various departments of the institute, interact with the company heads of the in-house industries, propose areas of growth for the institution and also hand hold the college in its developmental activities.
Dr. D P Agrawalspeaks to the Placement Committee
While interacting with the Placement Committee of Sahyadri, Dr. D P Agrawal shared the importance of addressing students and taking preferences from them in terms of their options post their studies – Job Placement, Higher Studies, Entrepreneurship and so on. Accordingly the team should drive the placement efforts. He also stressed on sharing the eligibility criteria and rules and regulations for placements. Students should be inspired to make a list of companies that they seek opportunities in, identify the recent hire positions and the respective skill sets required. Incase there is a gap in skill sets, the same should be bridged during the course curriculum. Due to the time factor being the limitation in internship as per course curriculum, industries should be approached to give projects so that the students can work from college and faculty can mentor them effectively. This way the faculty is also building his/her capability.
Management Committee Member of Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) visited Sahyadri
Mr. Anoop B.S. from SAE Bengaluru section visited Sahyadri along with Mr. Rakesh D R, Senior Officer, SAE, Bengaluru. He is the Management committee member of Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). During his visit to the MECH-TECH garage, Mr. Anoop interacted with various SAE Collegiate clubs of the institution such as SAE Baja, SAE SUPRA and Go-kart. Mr. Anoop facilitated a session for the collegiate club members wherein he discussed the different strategies to be considered and the methods to be followed while designing the vehicle. He also gave an overview about the importance of suspension, engine, braking, transmission and ergonomics. He appreciated the management and institution for the infrastructure and facilities that have been provided to the students which would provide students the right exposure.
FDP on Java Fundamentals and Java Programming at Sahyadri
Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Java Fundamentals and Java programming by ORACLE ACADEMY in association with ICT Academy has been hosted at Sahyadri during 27th August to 31st August 2018. A total of 25 Faculty members (5 internal & 20 External) participated in the FDP. Prof. S S Balakrishna, Vice-Principal presided the programme and gave the presidential address. Dr. J V Gorabal, Head of Computer Science & Engineering Department was also present as a Guest of Honour. Mr. Shanbakasundaram A was the Resource person from Oracle who facilitated programme. Mr. Basavadarshan, Relationship Manager ICT ACADEMY briefed about the ICT ACADEMY initiative and urged faculty to take this programme to the student level, train and help them get the free certifications from ORACLE ACADEMY.
TIRANGA 2018
Tiranga 2018, an Inter-Department Staff Variety Competition and Students Cultural Exhibit was held in the Campus. Department of Business Administration won the First Place, Department of Computer Science & Engineering won Second and the Third Place was shared between Department of Civil Engineering and First Year Faculty.
Civil Engineering students visit the prism RMC
Final year Civil Engineering students visited Prism RMC, a ready mix concrete unit along with Ms. Geetha S D and Mr Gireesh. Two staff members of Prism RMC welcomed students and explained in detail about batching and mixing of concrete covering the entire process of RMC plant. Mr. Chethan L Pujara, Branch Manager, RMC (India) Division addressed the students and motivated them to take up learning process seriously.
Session on ‘Basic Life Saving Skills for First Responders’
A team of reputed doctors were invited to train the students in basics of First Aid, roles of first responders and also to provide awareness about the new Saviour App. The Saviour Campaign team comprising of Dr. Jeevan Pereira, MS Ortho Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Surgeon, Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics, Yenepoya University; Dr. GayathriBhat, Professor, American Heart Association (AHA), Faculty in CPR training, KSHEMA and Dr. ManeeshRai, Electro physiologist, KMC Hospital Mangaluru trained our students. Dr. GayathriBhat demonstrated the CPR procedure and also helped the students perform the same. Dr. Jeevan Pereira explained about sports injury the one which is most common namely bone Fractures. He demonstrated the arm sling technique using triangular bandage. Dr. ManeeshRai introduced the new Saviour App that can be used in times of emergency.

Semester II MBA Results – Sahyadri at 94.9%
VTU results of II Semester MBA are declared. Out of 177 students who appeared for the VTU Examination, 168 students have passed.
Sahyadri participates in the "Say No to Drugs" event conducted by Mangalore Police in collaboration with Vijaya Karnataka
Mangalore Police in collaboration with Vijaya Karnataka conducted a series of events on the theme "Say No to Drugs" covering most of the schools and colleges of Dakshina Kannada District.
The Valedictory ceremony was organized at Dr. TMA Pai Auditorium, Mangaluru which started off with a Walk from the Bunts Hostel Circle. Student representatives from Sahyadri headed the contingent which saw participation from 5,000 students of Dakshina Kannada District.
The Valedictory ceremony had witnessed the presence of Shri. Verendra Hegde, Dharmadarshi, Sri. Manjunatha Swamy Temple, Dharmasthala; The Police Commissioner Mr. Suresh IPS; The District Commissioner Mr. Sasikanth Senthil S and also had the star attraction Ms. Rashmika Mandanna.

Achievements of a First Year Engineering Students
Mr. Dhiraj D Puthran is an Athlete. He has participated in National Level Athletics Meet held at Orissa in 2016-17 and in Andhra Pradesh in the year 2017-18. He is also into Dance and has participated in District, State and National Level Competition. Sahyadri is proud of his Achievements and wishes him the best in his future endeavours.
Mr. Swaraj D Puthran is an athlete and a professional Wrestler. He has participated in Wrestling at Madhya Pradesh (2016-17) and also in State Level Junior Olympics. He has also participated in Athletics competition held in Kerala. He has not only achieved in the field of Athletics but has also excelled in Art and Culture. He has participated in National, State and District Level Dance and Drama competitions. Sahyadri is proud to present the achievements of Mr. Swaraj and wishes him the best for his future endeavours.

Sahyadrian recruited by VCS Systems, Bengaluru
Ms. Neha S Phulase from the department of Computer Science & Engineering has been recruited by VCS Systems as Software Engineer – Trainee, in the recently held Campus Recruitment Drive for the 2018 passed out batch.
VCS Systems is a privately held global web and mobile development company based in Bangalore, India. They have successfully deployed web applications involving business to business e-commerce, electronic ordering, payment, Healthcare and CMS.
MBA Student serves in the District Consumer Information Centre
Akash N from MBA-Marketing is currently serving in the District Consumer Information Centre as a Council Member. He is a Marketing Head for GrahakaChaya in Editorial Board (A publication from DCIC) and also a Conveyor of Media and District Consumer Youth Council.
He recently worked on a Central Government project on Social Audit of Fair Price Shop. A survey was conducted in the fair price shops in every locality of Dakshin Kannada District. Personal interview was also held with the owners and vigilance committee along with Focus Group interview with the households of that area.
Two-Day Technical Training for Engineering Students
A Two-Day Technical Training was conducted for the 7th Semester Computer Science, Information Science, Electronics & Communication Engineering students by Mr. Ganesh Keerthi and Mr. Rama Prasad.
During the Day One, Mr. Ganesh emphasized on Fundamentals of Java. During the Day Two, Mr. Rama Prasad trained the students on Concepts of C++.

Dept. of Mathematics organized a talk on “Some Applications of Mathematics - From Ancient to Present Focus on matrix and Fourier methods” in the campus. Dr. Ashok Rao, Former Head, Network Project, CEDT, IISC Bangalore was the resource person. Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal; Prof. S S Balakrishna, Vice-Principal, Faculty of Information Science, Computer Science and Electronics & Communication Engineering Departments were present. Dr. Ashok Rao was fascinated to the see the infrastructure of Sahyadri and he mentioned that students of Sahyadri are fortunate as the infrastructure available here are on par with IIT’s and NIT’s. In his talk, he gave a brief idea of Applications of Matrices and Fourier Transforms in Engineering and also gave an insight about Research in mathematics and engineering.
