Vice-President of Capgemini, Bengaluru interacts with Students & Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
 
Mr. Bala Thiagarajan, Vice-President, Capgemini Bengaluru interacted with the students & faculty of Mechanical Engineering Department on 10th Aug’19 and spoke on the topic - “Technology trends and Data Analytics in Mechanical Engineering”. In his talk, Mr. Bala Thiagarajan spoke extensively on the importance of Analytics and how it could help in bringing efficiency in the entire process chain. He also spoke on Industry 4.0 Skills and its prospects in the field of Mechanical Engineering. The department also explored the possible internship and placement opportunities for the students at Capgemini.
First year Engineering students attend National Seminar organized by Ramakrishna Mission
Students of First Year Engineering attended The National Seminar organized by Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaladevi, Mangaluru in commemoration of 125 years of Swami Vivekananda's Chicago Address on 10th August’19. The seminar was inaugurated by Prof. P S Yadapadithaya, Honourable Vice -Chancellor, Mangalore University. The seminar had four sessions. A session on ‘Swami Vivekananda's Influence On World Thought’ by Swami Nityasthanandaji Maharaj, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Davanagere; ‘Swami Vivekananda- The Perennial Source of Inspiration’ by Mr. K Raghothama Rao, Director-Manas Centre for Training & Development, Bengaluru; ‘Swami Vivekananda's address at Chicago-its Background and Significance’ by Prof. Vijay Menon, Corporate Trainer, Kochi and ‘Swami Vivekananda's Concept of Service’ by Smt. Swathi Ram, National Executive, Youth for Seva, Bengaluru.
Caliper hosts “Production Monitoring Software Presentation” by Jyoti CNC Machines
 
In-line with Industry 4.0 skilling, Caliper arranged a presentation on “Production Monitoring Software” by Jyoti CNC Machines for faculty & staff of Caliper / RDL.
Jyoti CNC demonstrated their latest software, “7th Sense”, which facilitates live monitoring of production, collation of big data on production & maintenance. By installing this software, students will get hands-on learning experience on the latest skills like big data, net working, IOT etc.
Dr. Shivakumar Magada, Professor & Head, Dept. of Aquatic Environment Management, College of Fisheries appreciates Sahyadri for its Start-Up Culture
Dr. Shivakumar Magada Professor & Head, Dept. of Aquatic Environment Management, College of Fisheries, Mangaluru, visited Sahyadri along with his Research Scholars. He met the heads of start-ups and in-house companies and discussed ideas related to his area of expertise. He appreciated Sahyadri for inspiring him towards innovation-driven initiatives to be implemented in his institution.
Induction Programme for Engineering Batch 2019
 
On 8th Aug’19, Dr. Rameela Shekhar, Dean of MSW, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya-Mangaluru, also a child, adolescent and youth mental health professional addressed the students on the topic "Towards the Healthy Mind". The key objective of the session was to help students, sleep and wake up with a 'smile'. She also discussed about the various domains of well being and relationship management.
Along with this session, there was a session by Dr. Rajesha S, Dean-Academics, who explained about Academic process & policies followed in the institution. Dr. Ravichandra, Dean-Industrial Connect addressed the students about technical education and importance of industry-Institute connect and internship. Prof. Sudheer Shetty, Dean-Examination, explained about VTU Examination & Internal Assessment regulations. Prof. Prashanth Rao, Head of Mathematics, spoke on human values & personality development. Prof. Madhura, Dept. of Information Science & Engineering & President of Sahyadri Toastmaster Club inducted students about the toastmaster’s club at Sahyadri. Prof. Akhaya Kumari Shetty, Dept. of Kannada, took up a session on ‘Life Skills’. Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor, conducted a session on Yoga & Dance Movement Therapy. Prof. Shankarayya Shastri, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering facilitated a session on Global Ethics.
 
On 9th of August 2019, Sri Sanandana Dasa, Operations-head for THE AKSHAYA PATRA FOUNDATION-An NGO feeding 20,000 poor children in Govt. schools in Mangaluru and also the General Secretary of ISKCON-Mangaluru addressed the students. The key topic of the session was "Focus" and has enlightened the students with tips to attain strength by focusing the ‘Present’. His talk was indeed helpful for students to know more about meditation and its benefits. His words of wisdom on meditation enriched and helped the students to look forward to their future positively.
 
Simultaneously, in a different venue a session was taken over by Dr. Jnaneshwar Nayak, Vice president of Bharath Swabhiman /Patanjali Yoga Samithi Karnataka State Unit. He addressed the crowd about the importance of Yoga and how it helps in balancing the body, mind and the sensory organs. He engaged the students in practicing meditation. His session also included demonstration of Asanas and Pranayama.
Faculty delivers a Lecture at the SDPS 2019 Conference at Taichung, Taiwan
 
Dr. Ananth Prabhu G, Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering was invited to deliver a guest lecture on ‘Deep Fakes’ at the SDPS 2019 Conference held at Taichung, Taiwan.
Dr Prabhu also presented a pre-release copy of the Cyber Safe Girl V2.0 book to Prof. Thomas Wan, an eminent academician and researcher who has been the recipient of more than 30 Million Dollars Research Grant for his exemplary research work in the field of Health Informatics. Also, another copy was presented to Dr. Varadraj G, Associate Professor from the University of Central Florida and a researcher who has published more than 100 Journal and research articles. He also briefed them about the unique initiatives at Sahyadri, the start-up culture and other innovative programmes.
Dr. Prabhu also interacted with Dr. Ying-Chyi Chou, Director for HEAR (Healing Environment Administration and Research) at the Tunghai University, Taiwan and invited her to visit Sahyadri for which she has readily agreed during her next visit to India.
RDL Technologies Pvt. Ltd demonstrated its latest product on retail segment - "Smart Shopping Cart" using IoT
Mr. Raghavendra Shetty, CEO-RDL Technologies Pvt Ltd., explained the basic features of the cart having express checkout as its primary feature. He also said – “It provides a complete stop for people awaiting longer queues during checkouts”. He quoted some features - location based advertisement, product navigation, and recipe recommendations and so on. The second session was taken over by Mr. Pradeep Kumar, Design Engineer, RDL on important facts to be considered while understanding IoT, with a test case for condition monitoring system. More than 40+ people benefited from this programme as a session for the Sahyadri IoT Future Skill Group.
Director – Gurusthaan, Bengaluru interacts with the MBAs
Mr. Ramani Venkat, Director of Gurusthaan, Bengaluru interacted with the students of MBA on 8th Aug’19. Mr. Ramani has been associated with Sahyadri for more than 5 years now and is well acquainted with the standard of the institution. In this context, he began his interaction by giving insights on the brand phenomenon Sahyadri has been maintaining over the years.
In his interaction, he emphasised on the significance of Aptitude, MS-Excel and Data Analytics which are crucial to fetch a position in any organization and that they should upgrade themselves time to time to meet the industry requirements in terms of skills. He encouraged students to let go of their fear about Interview and that communication and basic etiquettes are key to placements. He concluded the session by answering the queries students had related to their employment opportunities.

Pool Campus Recruitment Drive - Amazon India
Amazon India conducted a pool campus recruitment drive on 5th Aug'19 for all the Graduates from Mangaluru. Mr. Murali Manoj – Recruiter from Amazon was at the campus to facilitate the process. Over 80 candidates participated in the drive, out of which 15 candidates were selected from this region.
Director of Binary Systems Pvt Ltd, Mangaluru along with his Team visited Sahyadri
Mr. Edward Jeevan, Director; Mr. Girish R S, Vice-President Enterprise Solutions and Mr. Deekshith, Customer Support Incharge – All from Binary Systems Pvt Ltd, Mangaluru visited the in-house companies and start-ups of Sahyadri. On viewing the innovative hub in the campus, Mr. Edward Jeevan has not only assured continued connectivity but will also introduce Sahyadri to his peers who will have enormous learning experience from the Campus. He was amused to see the innovative culture, driven across the institution and says Sahyadri is unique as he visited more than 100 colleges in the past.
Commencement of the MBA Third Semester
 Well begun is half done!
Beginning a semester well makes it easier during the course of the semester. On Aug 8th’19, the Third Semester of MBA began with Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA addressing the students on various aspects related to Mentor-Mentee System, Placement Records of Academic Year 2018-19, Training Programmes lined up, Paid Internship opportunities, Companies lined up for Campus hiring and also the importance of Attendance and Self-Grooming.
Caliper adds another Nuclear Plant as their customer
Caliper has bagged the first order from Tarapur Nuclear Power Plant, adding 5th Nuclear Power Plant as their customer.
Reverse engineering product with special surface coating is entrusted on Caliper, which is a challenging task. Product is planned to be developed with Industry-Academia collaboration between Caliper & Sahyadri.
MBA Dept conducts ‘Staff Confirmation Test’ for Sri Ramakrishna Credit Cooperative Society
Dept. of Business Administration-MBA has conducted the ‘Staff Confirmation Test’ for the 22 employees of Sri Ramakrishna Credit Cooperative Society in the campus on 4th Aug’19, Sunday. The employees who were on probation, on clearance of this test will be confirmed as full time employees for the organization.
DTlabz Trainers at Amdocs, Pune
Mr. Gautham Nayak, Design Lead Innovator of DTlabz and Mr. Ramkishor, Final year Engineering student had been to Amdocs to facilitate a One-Day “Value-Making” workshop in Pune on 8th Aug’19. The objective of the workshop was to introduce IoT concepts to the employees of Amdocs.
Amdocs is a multinational company that specializes in software and services for communications, media and financial services providers and digital enterprises.
SAP Labs Conducted Online Test
SAP Labs conducted an online test on 9th August '19 in Sahyadri Campus for Computer Science, Information Science and Electronics & Communication Engineering students of 2020 outgoing batch. A total of 220 students participated in the test. The results are awaited.
MBA Faculty underwent a Workshop on ‘Capitaline Databases’
Mr. Gurumurthy from Capitaline Plus facilitated a workshop on ‘Capitaline Databases’ for the Faculty of MBA on 6th Aug’19. He walked the faculty through the Database that stores enormous data pertaining to the listed companies in BSE and NSE. Faculty can now give assignments to students on Organization Study - financial standing, Ratio Analysis, Management Hierarchy and so on thus giving Hands-on experience to students in terms of studying the data, analyzing the data and interpreting the results.
