Sahyadri Celebrates the 73rd Independence Day
The 73rd celebration of our Independence Day was viewed with joy and pride by the staff and students of Sahyadri. Mr. Ashith B Hegde, Managing Director – Arkieva Asia Pacific, Chief Guest, hoisted the national flag after which the gathered students, faculty members and the staff sang the national anthem with pride. The Student Council of Sahyadri was then introduced to the guest by Prof. Balakrishna SS, Vice-Principal.

Ashith is leading the Arkieva Asia Pacific business in Mangaluru. Prior to this, he worked at Arkieva headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware. His area of expertise includes demand management, inventory planning, investment analysis and KPI reporting using Arkieva Software. He has experience of 12 years in this field. Ashith has a Master of Engineering in Industrial and Systems Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Supply Chain and Operations Management from the University at Buffalo, New York. He is also certified in Production & Inventory Management.

While addressing the gathering, Ashith, expressed how privileged he felt to be invited for this grand occasion at Sahyadri. He appreciated the celebration at grand scale for the huge number of students and faculty gathered during the ceremony. He shared his perspective of how he looks at Independent India in 3 stages – 1947, 1991-92 and the current period of Advancement in Technology and Business and how India is growing economically. He urged students to follow their passion, enhance their networking capability and be part of the Economic growth of India. Money is not everything, it’s important to follow one’s dream and that’s why he returned to India in order to contribute to India’s Economy. He said it’s a great feeling of accomplishment.

The Achievers of 2018-19 in extracurricular activities like Sports, Cultural & Scouts & Guides were felicitated on the auspicious occasion of Independence Day.
Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman was also present during the celebration.

Former Senior Vice-President of Reliance Industries interacts with MBA Faculty, Students and LLPs Mr. Ananth Ravi is a Former Senior Vice-President of Reliance Industries and a State Sponsor. He is a Post Graduate in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Science (IISc). After retiring from Reliance Industries, he has engaged himself in Pro Bono Consultancy (Latin Word – For the Good of Public), shares his experiences and helps early start-ups & small corporate houses in their growth.

Sahyadri Student Council for the Academic Year 2019-20

The Student Council for the Academic Year 2019- 20 was formulated on 13th August 2019. Prof. S S Balakrishna, Vice-Principal, facilitated the process of selecting the Heads for various clubs and association through a democratic process of nomination and vote. Principal – Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte addressed the council members and wished them Good Luck. The selected Heads addressed the council and sort their support.

Eighth batch of Parent Interaction of new entrants to the Engineering stream 2019 Parents Interaction for new entrants joined to the engineering stream through CET, was held in the campus. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman extended a warm welcome. He started his talk with the word “Acceptance” which he expected from the Parents towards their wards by analyzing their ward to focus & help them to take up challenges, where half of the problem is sorted out, so that students can start enjoying the course and concentrate more on learning engineering rather than just studying.

While mentioning this, chairman highlighted that there is difference between Basic engineering & Bachelor of engineering which focuses training on analytical, aptitude & attitude development of the student along with academics.

He emphasized how Sahyadri was able to attract highest number of companies with excellent package and have consistency on the same is what lies in the crux of the institution. With its in-house companies started by Industry experts & Startup companies providing an hands-on experience & project based learning, which helps to instills in students technical skills, creative, aptitude, attitude, exposure to latest technology.

He also threw light on the present scenario of engineering colleges stating almost 80% of engineers are unemployable due to gap in the curriculum & industry requirement. In order to impart quality education as per the AICTE model, various Industry academia partnership & mandatory Internship was being initiated recently to improve employability. This was already practiced by Sahyadri Institution four years ago with initiatives such as Training students to participate in NIT, IIT, Internship Program, Product based learning mentor-mentee system, Outbound program. Also, social connect program is conducted in the same line to identify the most daunting social problems and find the much feasible solution which is an essence of real engineers.

While assuring the parents on best of education to their children, Chairman called upon the parents to realize that no one grows with proper foundation and for the same:
  • Motivate children & never compare with other people
  • Always share problems & responsibilities with them
  • Be a friend to them
  • Make them realize the value of money
  • Have an expectations from them.
Also in the end he highlighted its Sahyadri culture to nurture a student as a responsible citizen of the country, well mannered & well-disciplined and inculcate human values.

Cultural Performances & Competition in view of Independence Day Celebration

Cultural Performances & Competition in view of Independence Day Celebration Department of Art & Culture organized an inter-department Variety Entertainment Competition for the faculty on Aug 15th’19. Faculty members from Computer Science & Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and MBA took part and exhibited their talent.

Cultural Performances & Competition in view of Independence Day Celebration MBA Department emerged as the Winner and Department of Computer Science & Engineering was Runners-up. The Winners and Runners-up were awarded by Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal; Dr. Rajesha S, Dean-Academics and the judges - Ms. Rakshitha, Mr. Raj Guru Hoskote and Ms. Nayana Sooda.

In addition to this, Best Dressed Male and Best Dressed Female competition (Theme of Independence Day) was also held for the Teaching & Non-Teaching Staff.

Alumni interacts with First Year Engineering students Ms. Niriksha R Rai, an alumna of Mechanical Engineering Department currently working as Training Officer with AngloEastern Company interacted with the First year engineering students and discussed the vast opportunities that women have in Merchant Navy. She shared her experience about her interview process, the nature of work she does and the growth opportunity women have in Merchant Navy. The students asked a number of questions and got clarity on their doubts from this interaction.

Co-Founder of TRAVAS India, an Alumnus of MBA interacts with the students Mr. Aakash Rai, Co-founder of TRAVAS India, an alumnus of 2014-16 MBA batch visited the campus and interacted with the faculty and students of HR specialization. TRAVAS India (Travel with us) was started in 2017 by the three Alumni of Sahyadri MBA – Mr. Aakash Rai, Mr. Vivek and Mr. Shreyas Salian. Their company caters to 2 sectors – Tourism and IT. In Tourism, TRAVAS specializes not only in North Indian Tours and South India Tours but also in World Tours. In IT, the company also operates under the name Web Networkz which provides Web Development and Web Solutions.

Alumnus of MBA Department interacts with the students

Mr. Swasthik Gokule working at IBM Bengaluru in the Payroll Administration Department since last 4 years visited the campus on 16th Aug’19 and addressed the MBA - HR students regarding Payroll & their opportunities in HR domain. He stressed on the importance of being an expert in MS-Excel and how it plays a vital role in Payroll computation. He also spoke about SAP software and its application in MNCs.
