BOOTCAMP organized at Sahyadri

BOOTCAMP organized at Sahyadri A workshop on Entrepreneurship- “E-Step boot camp” was conducted by Karnataka Innovation & Technology Society in association with startup Karnataka, NAIN & Sahyadri college of Engineering & Management.

The program was inaugurated by Karnataka startup cell representative Mr. Abrar Ahmed & Mr Vishnu Nagaraj in the presence of Dr. R. Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal, Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director R&D.

BOOTCAMP organized at SahyadriBOOTCAMP organized at Sahyadri Mr. Abrar Ahmed, in his speech, gave an insight on the Boot camp and a brief about startup Karnataka, it’s policies and schemes.

Dr. Manjappa Sarathi graced an occasion by sharing the importance of having more number of startups in the present competitive world.

Dr. R. Srinivasa Rao Kunte encouraged the participants and highlighted the importance of the design thinking as well as innovative thinking.

The Boot camp consisted of different sessions on Ideation, product design, marketing and development, customer engagement, business model making and creating a pitch deck.

Also, Mr Raghav Shetty from RDL Technologies delivered a mentor talk about his start up journey and success story.

The Program was presided by Mr.VidyaShankar Bollava, Incubation center manager for K-Tech Nain Center Sahyadri College of engineering & management.

Around 187 students from various branches including First year has actively participated in the Boot camp.

His area of specialization are Gas Dynamics, Experimental Aerodynamics, Active and Passive Control of High Speed Jets, Sudden Expansion Problems and Base Drag Reduction Techniques, Estimation of Stability Derivatives for Wedges, Wings, Ogives & Cones in Supersonic /Hypersonic Flows, Heat Transfer, Thermal Sciences, SI & CI Engines.
He addressed students and faculty members of Mechanical Engineering Department. He explained and gave an overview about various technological advances involved in Aerospace Applications by giving the examples of Chandarayana-2. He stressed on the importance of basic knowledge about various application based subjects and time management skills.

Fresher’s Day at Sahyadri

Fresher’s Day at SahyadriFresher’s Day at Sahyadri Mr. Srinivas Gowda R, IPS, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mangalore City & Mr. Girish Shivanna, Founder & CEO, Test Yantra Software Solutions, were the guests for the Fresher’s Day held at Sahyadri on 24th Aug’19.

During the Inaugural ceremony, Chairman Mr. Manjunath Bhandary in his introductory remarks reiterated that students should enjoy 4 years of Engineering in a right direction in this institution. He stated, “Learning should be achieved through pleasure & not with pressure”. He highlighted about the Guests giving brief about how they have achieved heights of success in their life by adopting the working culture through dedication and commitment. The lighting of the lamp marked inauguration of the programme.

Mr. Srinivas Gowda R, is 2016 batch IPS officer, currently serving as the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mangalore. He secured All India 105 Rank in UPSC Civil Service Examination & got into IPS borne to Karnataka Cadre. He has a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics & Communication from Bangalore Institute of Technology.

He addressed the students about importance of being updated with the current affairs in this competitive world. He also encouraged them to have foresight of their career and excel in their particular field. He advised students to choose their peer group wisely. He concluded with a few success mantras to the audience.

Mr. Girish Shivanna, is seasoned executive, leader, founder & CEO of Test Yantra Software Solutions, QSpiders & JSpiders and Flagroot. Over the years Mr. Girish has played pivotal roles & has been instrumental in co-founding number of companies. He has trained lot of people under his leadership in IT services.

He portrayed his own life as an example of how a person can be successful. He mentioned students that getting good marks is as important as understanding subject. He appreciated Chairman for his thoughtful perception. He was also overwhelmed to see first year student’s projects.

Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, the Principal, gave away the presidential address.

Formal function was followed by cultural events by first year students. The students put up an energizing show with dance and singing performance.

He motivated & guided them to take up more challenges in their learning process. He gave instances from his own life experience to encourage young minds to explore out of their core area. His talk was indeed enlightening for the students to decide their professional career.

Also, his interaction with faculty included following key takeaways of the session:
• Placement & teaching go hand-in hand
• He insisted on the role of Teachers building hard skills and soft skills
• Teachers should train students that enable them to take up responsibility

Sahyadri observes Sadbhavana Diwas Sahyadri observes Sadbhavana Diwas In commemoration of Sadbhavana Diwas, to mark the 75th birth anniversary of Shri Rajiv Gandhi, the students and faculty of Sahyadri took an oath of oneness and harmony on August 20th’19. Sadbhavana Diwas is celebrated on 20th August every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. This day is observed to encourage the national integration, peace, affection and communal harmony among the Indians of all religion. The students and faculty took a pledge to work for the emotional oneness and harmony of India regardless of caste, region, religion or language and further pledge that they shall resolve all differences through dialogue and constitutional means without resorting to violence.

‘Business Quiz’ jointly organized by NIPM & Sahyadri held in the Campus‘Business Quiz’ jointly organized by NIPM & Sahyadri held in the Campus Eleven Teams of two each from various B-Schools in the Mangaluru region participated in the ‘Business Quiz’ jointly organized by National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM), Mangaluru Chapter and Sahyadri held in the campus on 19th Aug’19. During the inaugural ceremony Mr. Divakar Kadri, Chairman of NIPM, Mangaluru Chapter welcomed the participants and thanked Sahyadri for supporting the organization in their efforts to contribute to the student’s development. Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA appreciated the initiatives of NIPM in organizing events in huge numbers reaching out to maximum students.

Mr. Udayakumar M was the Quiz Master who was facilitating his 322nd Quiz that day. He is working as a Professor of Clinical Education in SDM Law College and popular among students for his passion for teaching without a single day LEAVE in his tenure as a Teacher. He is also a mentor of famous ‘Traditional Tiger Dance’ of Mangaluru and a patron of it. In recognition of his contribution to the field of Education, Mr. Udayakumar M was felicitated by the NIPM and Sahyadri Team.

Finally, Two Teams – One from Sahyadri MBA Department (Ismail Rishan & Josvina Machado) and the other from School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya emerged as qualifiers to participate in the Chapter Level Quiz that would be held in Bengaluru, end of this month.

Students from all semesters participated in the event. Mr. Melwin Lobo from Computer Science & Engineering, GCP lead of DSC and Mr. Shreyas Baliga from Computer Science & Engineering, Flutter lead of DSC were the key speakers of the workshop. Students were given a hands-on experience on working with cloud based technologies.

Manager at HDFC Ltd, Bengaluru interacts with the students Ms. Shivani Rai, an alumna of Sahyadri MBA (Batch 2016-18) placed at HDFC Ltd, Bengaluru through Campus was at Sahyadri on 19th Aug’19 to meet her faculty and also share experiences with her juniors. Shivani was recruited as a Management Trainee a year ago and now HDFC Ltd has skipped two levels of promotion and has made her the Assistant Manager directly for her consistent and top-class performance.
While addressing the students, Shivani expressed how indebted she was to the institution for placing her in a renowned organization which recruited candidates from Premier institutions only in the past. She conveyed that as an alumna of Sahyadri she always had an upper hand in terms of executing her task as she was already trained to be a ready fitment during her course of study at Sahyadri. She gave inputs to the department on further enhancing the student’s capabilities by providing Certification Training on Email Etiquettes and Communication (Voice Modulation). Being an MBA in HR, she was able to fair well in a financial organization as she had an empathetic approach to the Banking customers which she nurtured during her course of study at Sahyadri.

World Organ Donation day observed  at Sahyadri In commemoration of World Organ Donation day, Mr Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor, conducted an awareness session on organ donation for the first year engineering students on 22nd Aug’19. He explained about the importance and need of an organ donation in India. The students were also briefed about the process and procedure of organ donation and the eligibility to be a donor. Over the period of last one year more than 48 individuals including students and staff have pledged to donate their organs.

Mr. Ramnath Kini K, a First Year Engineering student has pledged to donate his organs on 23rd Aug’19 under the guidance and supervision of Mr. Ankith S.Kumar, Student Counsellor. He has registered his name as a donor in the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO). Sahyadri is proud of his heroic gesture and applauds his decision.

Sahyadri Chess Team secures places in VTU Chess Tournament Sahyadri Girls Chess team won fourth place and Boys team won eighth place in VTU Rest of Bengaluru Zone Chess Tournament held at SJMIT, Chithradurga during 18th to 19th Aug’19. Sahyadri Girls team has now qualified for the VTU inter-zone Chess Tournament to be held at SJMIT, Chithradurga during 20th to 21st Aug’19.

Third Session for ‘Cyber Security’ Future Skill Vertical Mr. Bavith Raj, Founder-Andel Softech, Former Computer Analyst, CID, West Bengal and an alumnus of Sahyadri facilitated a session on ‘Cyber Crime’ on 17th Aug’19 to the Cyber Security Future Skill Club. He gave an insight on what is cyber crime, how tracing is done and how people become a victim of cyber crime. He also briefed about cyber laws.

Alumnus of Electronics & Communication Engineering interacts with students Mr. Keerthan Nayak, an alumnus of Department of Electronics & Communications Engineering currently working as Associate Engineer-Testing in SLK Software Services Pvt Ltd interacted with the second year Electronics & Communications Engineering students and discussed the various opportunities in electronics domain. He shared his experience about his interview process, nature of work he does and the opportunities available in PSU’s. He stressed on pursuing higher studies in abroad or in any prestigious institution of India. IoT, embedded system and VLSI are the key domains in which a person must be specialized in order to get into any Electronics & Communications domain company. Also, he stressed on getting certified in programming languages such as Python. He also advised to maintain good aggregate so that they can get placed before completing their engineering. The students asked a number of questions and got clarity on their doubts from this interaction.

Prof. Vasudeva Rao, an in-house faculty handled a session which highlighted the overview of Outcome Based Education, its importance and benefits. He also emphasized the benefits of NBA accreditation and overall NBA Process.
