Former Chairman of Karnataka State Pollution Board visited Sahyadri Mr. H C Sharatchandra, a former Chairman of Karnataka State Pollution Board & Present Expert Appraisal Committee Member of Ministry of Environment & Forest Government of India, New Delhi visited Sahyadri on 24th Aug’19. He appreciated the college infrastructure, training modules offered, skill development course designed and the Industry connect programmes provided to students. He opined that Sahyadri is one of the model colleges of the country as per the facilities provided in the campus. He was accompanied by Dr. Lakshmikanth of State Karnataka Pollution Control Board, Udupi District. Their visit was facilitated by Dr. S. Manjappa, Director-Research and Dr. Rajesha S, Dean- Academics.

He urged students to be SMART to deal with complexity and fit into stressful corporate world. He made the session worthy by giving an illustration of an efficient cook to be hired which gave the student a learning impact on how to fill those gaps which we are lagging behind and find the way to work on it. The session would be helpful for the MBA students in adapting to their work place.

Bridge Course for New Entrants to MBA Batch 2019Bridge Course for New Entrants to MBA Batch 2019 A Six-Day Bridge Course for the new entrants to MBA Batch 2019 has been planned during 26th to 31st Aug’19 with sessions from in-house faculty and industry experts.

On 26th Aug’19, Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA encouraged students to navigate the institution website and stimulated the students to focus on their goals as there are enormous opportunities at Sahyadri including internships at in-house industries.

Prof. Ramesh K G, Dean-Strategic Planning addressed the students and shared the importance to learn, unlearn and relearn as they have just stepped into their professional course of MBA. He also advised to add passion and positive attitude to work as success is not easy and can be achieved only through hard work.

Prof. Manjunatha Kamath conducted series of activities which aimed at removing stage fear and helped students to develop Team Management Skills. Mr. Abhijith Karkera, Manager-Swiggy, Mangaluru facilitated a Brain storming activity and conducted Personality interview which encouraged students to be outspoken and come out of their comfort zone.

Talk on Cyber Security and Consumer Awareness Talk on Cyber Security and Consumer Awareness On 27th Aug’19, the first session of the Bridge Course was facilitated by Prof. Padmanabha B on the topic – ‘Self-Introspection’. Through an activity-based session, Prof. Padmanabha brought out the need to look inward and examine one’s own thoughts, ideas and feelings as it’s a kind of regular check on self development which helps to know what we have achieved so far.

The second session was conducted by Prof. Sushma V on ‘Life Skills’. She reiterated the importance of 4H in the Life Skills Model – Head, Heart, Hand and Health in addition to the hard skills and the domain specific skills that the students inherit during their course of MBA studies. She gave practice sessions on Pronunciation of words sounding ‘V’, ‘W’, ‘P’, ‘C’, ‘R’ and ‘L’ which are crucial to be pronounced accurately.

Afternoon session was facilitated by Prof. Manoj Louis, Govt. First Grade College, Kavoor on the topic - ‘Team Building’. This was again an activity-based session which stimulated students to work in Teams in order to achieve success and that the sense of accomplishment will be immense in such team driven targets and tasks.

She emphasised on the importance of Economics and Current Affairs.

The second session was conducted by Prof. Suchithra A, relating to Stock Market and the importance of Investment. Students were introduced to various financial services available in ‘Sahyadri Capital Advisors LLP’, an MBA Start-Up and disseminated the internship opportunities available for the students. She also encouraged the students to invest in share market and earn good returns.

The afternoon session was conducted by Mr. Prajwal Karkera, an alumnus of Sahyadri MBA (Batch 2015-17). His session focussed on the importance of communication and team work by conducting activities like - “Walk and Talk”, “Mad Ads” and “Game of Perspectives”. He also advised the students to utilize their college life effectively and capitalize every opportunity they receive at Sahyadri.

He stressed on the importance of Body Language and Tone in communication and how it affects the message that needs to be conveyed.

The next session was facilitated by Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor on ‘Health & Success’. He spoke about finding oneself and being a better version of it from time to time. He re-iterated the importance of Dancing for fitness and conducted a Zumba session too. The afternoon session was facilitated by Ms. Vathika Pai, Women Entrepreneur-Nirmala Travels & Vathika Enterprises. She shared her journey as an Entrepreneur and the various challenges faced in her business. She encouraged the students to take up entrepreneurship as a career choice. She also shared information regarding various facilities provided by the Government to stimulate entrepreneurship.

She emphasised on the importance of social skills and knowledge to become a competent and efficient individual. She engaged the students through an activity-based session.

The next session was facilitated by Prof. Samarth Shenoy. He took the students through his journey of life, sharing his experiences. The session was aimed at imparting moral values in students through an emotional story.

The resource person of afternoon session was Ms. Divyashree Gatti. She spoke on the topic ‘Get out of your comfort zone’. It was an activity-based session where students had to come out of their comfort zones and complete the tasks.

He also conducted an activity which brought out the concept of Self Branding in a super competitive environment, People Management and Customer Relationship.

The second session was by Mr. Damodar Baliga, Chief Manager-Training, Kotak Life who spoke about Leadership Skills. He emphasised on Self-motivation stating that it is the greatest motivation. Giving examples of great leaders like MS Dhoni, Gary Kirsten, and told how they added value to their team which made them a great leader. Leader is someone who takes his people along with him to the path of success and makes it possible for them to achieve their goals as well as of the organization.

Talk on Cyber Security and Consumer Awareness Talk on Cyber Security and Consumer Awareness Mr. I L Narasimha Rao the Sr. Project Manager at Cyber Peace Foundation and Ms. Janice Verghese a Techno-lawyer based in Delhi facilitated a talk on ‘Cyber Security and Consumer Awareness’ for the 1st year Engineering students on 26th Aug’19.

Earlier, Mr. I L Narasimha Rao was the Project Manager at CDAC. He writes Articles in the News Media, creates Cyber Security Awareness through All India Radio (AIR) and Doordharshan. Over the past years his focus has been on linking through Educational Departments, CBSE, State and Central Government Agencies, Private sector for communication & outreach policy, in development of training Programs on Information Cyber security Awareness to all stakeholders.

Mr. Janice Verghese pursued B.Tech LL.B from the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun with specialization in Cyber Laws. During the course of her education she studied both the technical and legal aspects of the internet which helped to understand the intricacies of cybercrime and the kind of regulation needed to minimize and control it.

Their talk included awareness on Net etiquette, various possibilities of cyber trap and importance of laws and policies. They also shared various case studies and educated students on content removal. Students also received access to Online Resource Centre, with a repository of videos, checklists, advisories, government policies and reports.

Social Innovation Programme - Expert Talk on Zero Waste Management by Mr. Kishore Attavar

Talk on Cyber Security and Consumer AwarenessTalk on Cyber Security and Consumer Awareness As a part of the Social Innovation Programme, an Expert Talk on Zero Waste Management was held in the campus on 27th Aug’19. Mr. Kishore Attavar, Honorary Director of Extension service Centre, School of Social work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru addressed the first year engineering students on various problems in the Waste Management sector. He gave an overview of how Mangaluru City manages waste and highlighted the reasons behind the tragedic Pachanady incident, where in the waste from the dumping area has drifted and caused serious damage to nearby villages. He also stressed the importance of behavioural change towards concept of waste and the concept of reduce, re-use and recycling of waste.

The expert has put across problem statements from the sector which will be taken up by the students as research projects. As a part of the Social Innovation Programme, students will apply design thinking process in finding solutions to these problems.

Bridge Course for New Entrants to MBA Batch 2019Bridge Course for New Entrants to MBA Batch 2019 Team Challengers conducted Aero-modelling Workshop during 24th to 25th Aug’19. The aircraft models developed during the aero-modelling workshop were a major attraction for students. Over 72 students from various colleges participated in this Two-Day workshop. A total of 15 teams with mentors competed with each other.

Day One had interesting theoretical sessions covering the basics of aerodynamics and calculations concerning the fundamental stability of the planes. Aircraft model requires presence of mind and sound knowledge of flight principles, therefore, the day continued with the elaborated explanation of different kinds of wings, tails and other configurations. During the second part of the day, the participants where introduced to basic operations on the software XFLR.

Looking at the urge of students to learn more, the second day began with each student having hands-on experience on building a plane. Avispad-15 was the chosen model to build. The team building the finest model with proper aerodynamics was awarded. Students were given exposure to design wing profiles and construction of aircraft models, also giving them heads-up on the software’s for developing new models. The workshop concluded with an overwhelming ‘Air-Show’, which inspired students.

An expert from Fisheries and Agricultural Sector - Dr. Shivakumar Magada, Professor and Associate Director of Extension, College of Fisheries was the resource person. Dr. Shivakumar Magada presented the talk on these sectors and interacted with the students. He concluded his session by clarifying doubts that students had.

Fit India Movement observed at Sahyadri Fit India Movement observed at Sahyadri In commemoration of National Sports Day, the students and staff of Sahyadri took part in the Fit India Movement campaign launched by the Honourable Prime Minister during the LIVE streaming of the event and pledged to keep oneself fit. Various activities were organized by Sahyadri NSS unit in association with Department of Sports and Sahyadri Health Centre on 29th Aug’19. 10,000 steps challenge was conducted for the students and a walkathon was also arranged for the faculty within the campus.

Fit India Walkathon for Faculty at SahyadriFit India Walkathon for Faculty at Sahyadri Sahyadri NSS Unit in collaboration with Department of Physical Education and Sahyadri Health Centre organized various activities for the staff and students on the occasion of Fit India Movement launched by The Honourable Prime Minister on 29th Aug’19. A walkathon event was held for the teaching and non-teaching staff and 10,000 steps challenge was held for the students.

The deliberations of the session included topics on Electron conductivity and mobility, Drift and Resistance, Effects of temperature and mobility.

VTU e-Learning Centre, has taken up a new initiative in enriching knowledge and empowering education through implementing Virtual Interactive e-Learning platform named as “VTU e-Shikshana- Empowering Education through e-Learning Platform”, which enables the students of VTU to interact with eminent scholars in an immersive e-learning environment. This interactive e-Learning platform enables video conferencing which allows the users to have seamless live video and audio streaming experience.

Directors of Incognito Forensic Foundation (IFF Lab) conduct sessions on Cyber security and Cyber Forensics Directors of Incognito Forensic Foundation (IFF Lab) conduct sessions on Cyber security and Cyber Forensics Mr. Mohit Parmer and Mr. Suresh Kumar, The Directors of Incognito Forensic Foundation (IFF Lab) were at Sahyadri during 27th to 28th Aug’19. During the Day One, they went through all the initiatives of Sahyadri and got well acquainted with the Sahyadri Culture.

On the Day Two, they interacted with faculty members and demonstrated techniques of Cyber Security. This not only created awareness about Cyber Security and Cyber Forensics but also generated interest in faculty to take up Cyber Security as a core area for their further development.

IFF Lab is a non-profit organization established under Section 8 of the Companies Act. It offers a complete range of forensic services and solutions, including litigation consulting, electronic discovery and forensic casework.

Mr. Rajesh Mathew from the MBA batch of 2014-16 worked on ‘Application of Lev and Schwartz compensation Model’ at MCF, Mangaluru for his Final Year fourth semester project. It was through this project on HR Analytics that he procured a job as “Specialist in Accreditation and Quality Assurance Office” in the Kingdom University Bahrain. After three years, the proud mentee worked on the same project and published a paper in the Scopus Journal, International Journal of Scientific and Technology Research with Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA as the first author. In the words of Rajesh Mathew he says, 'this is the least I could do to my mentor'.

This would be a great inspiration to all Mentors to give their best without any expectation and the happiness from the same is unimaginable.

These products are yet again an import substitution & Caliper maintained its select class suppliers’ club, who can produce very critical products.

Hello Freshers a Session by Mozilla Sahyadri On Thursday 29th Aug’19, a session on Introduction to open source and domains under Mozilla open source community was held. It was a hands-on session where students did their first open source contribution on GitHub. The session was attended by most of the enthusiastic freshers.

Mozilla Club Sahyadri is an open-source developer hub where developers contribute, learn and help each other grow. Mozilla Club Sahyadri which is under Sahyadri Open Source Community (SOSC) has four main domains namely, Web development, Open design, Game development and Mixed Reality. Interested learners can be a part of Mozilla Sahyadri, choose a domain of their interest and start exploring.

The session was conducted by Domain Leads Mr. Muhammad Bilal Hussain from Third year Computer Science & Engineering; Ms. Basavarajeshwari Ambi from Third year Information Science & Engineering; Mr. Newton Fernandez from Second year Information Science & Engineering; Mr. Swastik Shetty from Second year Information Science & Engineering and GitHub Campus Expert Mr. Akashdeep Bhagat from Third year Computer Science & Engineering.

Sahyadri Toastmasters Installation Ceremony The Sahyadri Toastmasters Club conducted their Installation Ceremony on Friday, August 30th 2019, for the term July 2019 to December 2019. Toastmasters International (TI) is a US headquartered non-profit educational organization that operates clubs worldwide for the purpose of promoting communication and public speaking skills. The Principal, Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte was the Chief Guest for the event. The Area Director, Toastmaster Sukanya and DTM Divyashree Gatii were also present for the felicitation of the incoming office bearers. The new team for the upcoming term consists of President - TM Madhura Hegde, VP Education- TM Hiba Fathima, VP PR- TM Nihal Sanil, VP Membership- TM Shivaprasad, Secretary- TM Nishanth Bhandary , Treasurer- TM Shraddha Shetty and Sergeant at arms- TM Shrivatsa. The event was graced by the presence of guiding force of the Sahyadri Toastmasters Club, Toastmaster Molly Chowdri and Toastmaster Samarth.

Mr. Joe Pradeep Dsouza, Senior Assistant Director Horticulture, Mangaluru addressed the first year engineering students on the interventions in the horticulture sector and also presented the overview of irrigation sector. He stressed on medicinal plants and its importance, guided on the technological opportunities available for students. The expert has shared the various problem statements from this sector which will be taken up by students as research project.

MBA student invited as a Resource Person for 'Swaccha Manas' initiative at Carmel Convent High School, Modankap Ms. Uma N Shenoy, a student from 2nd Year MBA was invited as a resource person for 'Swaccha Manas' Phase 5 of Ramakrishna Mission's Cleanliness Drive at Carmel Convent High School, Modankap on 29th Aug’19. During her talk, she enlightened the students about the importance of keeping the surroundings clean. She re-iterated the importance of personal hygiene. Her session was activity-based in order to bring about the concept of 'Learning with Fun'. A total of 109 students of 8th and 9th Standard attended this session.
