Workshop Series on ISRO Satellite Remote Sensing Based Societal Applications on Web
One-day Workshop Series on ISRO Satellite Remote Sensing Based Societal Applications on Web was conducted by Professor C. J. Jagadeesha, Scientist, ISRO- NRSC- RRSC, Bangalore.
The workshop was mainly based on the areas where remote sensing is widely used. Prof. Jagadeesha explained in depth the concept of remote sensing. He emphasized on using remote sensing technologies in order to find out the origin of a particular problem and also added that it can help to overcome a majority of problems that are being faced by the farmers. He also introduced the concept of water irrigation.

Sahyadri gets Institutional Membership of NIPM
 Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management gets Institutional Membership of National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM) for a period of 3 years. Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Department of Business Administration was accompanied by Prof. Sushma V, Prof. Girish M and Prof. Prajwala Rodrigues for the Installation Ceremony of NIPM, Mangalore Chapter.
NIPM is a non-profit making body devoted to the development of skill and expertise of the professionals engaged in the management of human resources through regular lecture, meetings, seminars, training courses, conferences and publication in its chapters all over the country.

Students' Project awarded as “Project of the Year”
Mr. Blesson S, Mr. Nirmith Ashok Bangera, Mr. Koushik M and Mr. Arthik Rai of final year Civil Engineering had participated in student Project Programme 2015-16 (39th Series) and completed the project entitled 'Optimization of Food-Waste Based Biogas Digestor and its Implementation in Rural Areas,' under the guidance of Ms. Rashmishree K N, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering and Prof. Prasanna Kumar C, Associate Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication. The project was presented by Mr. Cavin Vijay Mascarenhas of final year Civil Engineering in the competition.
The project was funded by KSCST and was adjudged as one of the outstanding projects of the year, thus being awarded as "Project of the Year", during the seminar and exhibition held at BLDE Association's Vachana Pitamaha Dr. P.G.Halakatti College of Engineering and Technology, Vijayapura on the 19th and 20th of August 2016 which was jointly organized by KSCST.

Shri. Anil Uppin, Additional Director (Vishwa) Department of Industries and commerce (DIC) visits Sahyadri
 Sahyadri had the honour of receiving Shri. Anil A. Uppin, Additional Director(Vishwa) Department of Industries and commerce(DIC), Mr. Gokul Das Nayak, Joint Director also the Deputy Director of DIC and Shri. Arvind Baleri in campus. They visited entire premises and went into minute observations of work carried out in Dreamers DT lab, Sahyadri Aero Design and Hands on Experience laboratory. They appreciated the creativity and innovativeness of the students. Shri. Uppin highlighted various avenues of utilizing these innovations in an organizations. He suggested varied personalities spanning all areas of Engineering and said to focus on agricultural sector which has ardent need of technology implementation. He spelt areas of application in Aerospace and Defence. To be an Engineer one needs to develop the Engineering sense of looking at life and applying it in day to day life. The team was generous to initiate contact with varied patent holders and work in union. They also visited the Centre of Nano science Technology. They in particular appreciated the work done under Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt as an important service which is missed out by many colleges.

Inauguration of STAISE
STAISE, Association of Information Science & Engineering Department was inaugurated in the presence of Mr. Jitesh B V, Project Lead, Tech Mahindra, Germany, Chief Guest of the programme. Mr. Jitesh, in his inaugural address emphasized on the need for the students to learn multiple technologies and participate in co-curricular and extra co-curricular activities. The guest of honour Prof. Umashankar B S, addressed the students on the importance of outlining a road map in order to reach the goal successfully. Dr. A P Manu, President & HOD of the department extended a warm welcome to the third semester students and highlighted the various programs to be conducted under the umbrella of the association. The special attraction of the event was the theme - “Namma Kudla”.

Department of Business Administration organised a Guest Lecture on Goods & Service Tax (GST), a landmark tax reform legislation, post independence. CA Nandagopal Shenoy, a leading Chartered Accountant and Indirect Tax expert of Mangalore was the guest speaker. In his lecture he emphasized on the current tax structure, implication of GST on the tax regime, items which will be impacted post GST implementation and also about the benefits State Government will reap from it. He also explained the process of GST Act implementation and how the tax structure will be bifurcated into Central, State and Integrated GST bill. The lecture was followed by Question and Answer session.

Bridge Course for MBA New Entrants
A Bridge Course for new entrants is conducted every year before the commencement of the first semester classes. The main objective of the course is to bridge the gap between subjects studied at Under-Graduate level and subjects they would be studying in their MBA course. This Course will assist in the smooth transitioning of the students to MBA. A sound grasp of the fundamentals of MBA subjects will lay a strong foundation for the entire two-year programme.
The students were given a warm welcome by Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Department of Business Administration who briefed the students about the outline and importance of holding a Bridge Course. In-house faculties and guests from Academics and Industry were invited to conduct activity based sessions for the new MBA entrants. Sessions that were conducted are Quantitative Techniques, Creative Thinking & Interpersonal Skills, Communication Skills, Self Discovery, Time Management, Developing a Business Plan, Attitude, Self-Identification & Breakthrough Thinking. The event concluded with the photograph session and feedback sharing.

CLOUDS - Student Association Inaugurated
CLOUDS, the student association for the academic year 2016-17 was inaugurated by Mr. Karthik Bhat, Software Engineer at the UniCourt Inc. in the presence of Professor Sudheer Shetty, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Prof. Sudheer Shetty welcomed the gathering and delivered the inaugural address.
Mr. Karthik Bhat stated the importance of learning programming languages and its need in our day to day life. He said, it is very essential in the present era to be well versed with technology. He encouraged the students to take up Mini projects.
The inaugural ceremony was then followed by Cultural activities by students of the department. Ms. Mamatha Shetty, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & engineering coordinated the entire event.

Student of DTLabz wins 1st prize at “The Amateur Scientist”
Mr. Rishab Rao, 8th standard, Canara CBSE School participated in Robo Soccer in The Amateur Scientist Event held at PES University Bangalore. He participated amongst 120 teams all over India and secured the first place. The event consisted of 3 rounds in which the bot has to play soccer with the opponent bot.
Mr. Rishab Rao was trained and supported by Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd. Sahyadri family congratulates him for his success.
