iWave Systems Technologies Signs MoU with Sahyadri

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangalore, with a vision to reach excellence in education, signed an MoU with iWave Systems Technologies for Joint Collaborative Program for Establishment of an Incubation Centre at Sahyadri for Product Development in Embedded Systems and Advanced ARM Based Embedded Systems Lab for the benefit of students & faculty members.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Dr. Abdullah Khan, President, and Mr. Kumar Bhagavath, Associate Director, iWave Systems Technologies, Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation, Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Prinicpal, Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director, Research & Consultancy, Prof. B. N. Karkera, Consultant, Prof. Dayanand Shetty, Department of Electronics & Communication & Engineering, and Asst. Prof. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering.

Session Industry Interact

Confederation of Industry Interact with the support of CII was held in the Campus. Principals and professors of fifteen engineering colleges in the Mangalore region participated in the session. The session was chaired by Mr. Praveen Kalbavi, MD and CEO of Novigo Solutions, Mr. R. Sathyanarayan Ramachandran, Head of the South Zone and Mr. Moinudeen, Head of Karnataka CII. Mr. Praveen has expressed his support to engineering colleges from the industry side in all aspects such as internship and projects handling. Mr. R. Sathyanarayan Ramachandran gave the complete overview of the benefits of CII membership to students, faculty and industry. Mr. Moinudeen has also expressed that he will support any of the requests generated from engineering colleges. There was an open house discussion where many queries were discussed.

CII is a non-government, not-for-profit, industry-led and industry-managed organization, playing a proactive role in India's development process. Founded in 1895 CII’s theme of ‘Accelerating Growth, Creating Employment’ for 2014-15 aims to strengthen a growth process that meets the aspirations of today’s India. During the year, CII will specially focus on economic growth, education, skill development, manufacturing, investments, ease of doing business, export competitiveness, legal and regulatory architecture, labour law reforms and entrepreneurship as growth enablers.

Sahyadri in the Limelight at VGST Funding Grants Award 2014-15

Vision Group on Science and Technology (VGST), Department of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science & Technology, Bangalore, has sanctioned grant amounting to Rs 58,00,000/- to Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management toward proposed projects under three different schemes. Ms. Saranyaraj D., Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering with Prof. Dayananda Shetty, Director-STEP as the co-investigator will coordinate the grant under ‘Centres of Innovative Science and Engineering Education (CISEE)’ scheme. CISEE programme is to improve the quality of research and education in the state of Karnataka by providing facilities needed for the promotion of research activities, Skill Development, Teaching Methodology and Development of Teaching aids, etc. particularly in science & engineering Colleges.

Mr. Sarvesh Vishwakarma, Assistant Professor – SG, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, will coordinate grant awarded for ‘ Karnataka Fund for Infrastructure Strengthening in Science and Technology in Higher Educational Institutions (K-Fist) – (Level – I)’ scheme. K-FIST scheme is to provide financial support to higher educational institutions affiliated to universities in the state towards strengthening infrastructure facilities for imparting quality education and to encourage research in post-graduate institutions with establishment of basic infrastructure facilities.

Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering and Dr. Savitha M.B., Professor & HOD, Department of Chemistry are awarded under ‘Seed Money for Young Scientist (SMYSR)’ scheme.

Congratulating all budding researchers of Sahyadri for getting recognition for the proposed research projects for the first time from the government agencies Dr. S. Manjappa, Director Research & Consultancy said, “I wish all of you (researchers) a good progress in your research career”.

Prof. C. Ranganathaiah, Director of Research said that it is a great boost to Govt. Research Center at Sahyadri Campus to strengthen its research activities. The facilities developed through these projects will enhance the research based education for all the students. He appealed faculties to associate PG students to take these project works forward to achieve the goals set in. He emphasized the need to work hard to achieve the deliverables in the sanctioned projects so that VGST appreciates Sahyadri as the best Research Center.

Thomson Reuters Careers Selects MCA Students for Internship

Pavan Kumar Shetty, Adarsh K., and Swathi S. of the Department of Master of Computer Applications have been selected for Thomson Reuters Careers for a 6-months internship.

Ms. Abhilasha Gaonkar of Aricent Group Visits Sahyadri

Ms. Abhilasha Gaonkar, Manager-HR, Aricent Group, Bangalore, visited the Campus and met and interacted with Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal. During the discussions, talks were held on holding a campus recruitment drive for the final year students. Mrs. Rashmi Bhandary, Head, Placements, Prof Umashankar B. S., Dean, Academic, Dr. Molly S. Chaudhuri, Head, Training, Mr. Sudheer Shetty, HoD, Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Dr. Manu A. P., HoD, Department of Information Science & Engineering were present. The outcome of the talks was successful and the company has agreed to hold a campus recruitment drive on the 5th and the 6th of February 2015. The company is also looking into internship for students of MCA as well as holding a Faculty Development Programme.

Ms. Gaonkar later interacted with the student community. She spoke about her company to the gathering. The students were informed about what the company was looking for in a prospective candidate and in the interactive session Ms. Gaonkar stressed that aspiring students should be well versed in aptitude and technical skills when applying for a job.

A whirlwind of Examinations Around the Corner

It is the end of the current semester and students have been busy with their final internal examinations which have just ended. The final examinations by VTU will soon begin and students of all engineering streams have been busy studying. A whirlwind of examinations is around the corner and for some time to come there will be a lull in other activities in the Campus. The semester which has just gone by has seen the Campus buzzing with activities be it sports, cultural events, Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt-2014, projects being completed by final year students and faculty clearing last minute doubts of the students. All-in-all it was a semester well spent.

Dr. C. Ranganathaiah Contributes a Chapter for a Book Published by Wiley Publishers

Dr. C. Ranganathaiah, Director of Research published a contributed Chapter in the book titled “Micro-and Nanostructured Epoxy/Rubber blends" edited by Thomas et.aland published by well known Wiley Publishers. Chapter 12 with the title “Light, X-rays and Neutron Scattering Techniques for Miscibility and Phase behavior studies in Polymer blends” pp239-270 is written by Dr. Ranganathaiah which serves as a reference material for fresh researchers and scientists working in the area of polymers and polymer based materials. Literature published up to 2012 in this area has been covered in the review with strict scrutiny of the data, method of analysis etc. The book is published in Sept 2014 with No. ISBN: 978-3-527-33334-9 and spread over 464 printed pages.

Faculty Member Invited as Chief Guest

Mrs. Sreelatha. U.A., A.A.O., was invited as the Chief Guest for the function “Makkala Suraksha Sapthaha” - Safety of Children at the Zilla Panchayat Auditorium, Urwa, Mangalore. She addressed the school children of Mangalore area on “How to protect themselves and face the challenges.”

KPMG & Clutch Group Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for MBA Students

KPMG & Clutch Group conducted pool campus recruitment drive for MBA students in the campus. 104 students from various colleges participated in the drive. The recruitment process consisted of an Aptitude Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview. The results are awaited.




   
  


   

 

Financial Grant for Student Project

The Project “Fuzzy Logic Based Assessment of the Periodic Variation of Water Quality of Nethravathi River” proposed by Shelton Rainer Pinto, 4th year Civil Engineering and Vardhana M., 3rd year Electronics & Communication Engineering under the guidance of Dr. Abdul Kareem, Department of Projects and Funding is selected for a financial grant of Rs. 50000/- by M/s. MJR Builders, Bengaluru.

Larsen & Toubro Limited (L & T) Pool Campus Recruitment Drive

Mr. Harsha N. Raj, Manager - HR, Larsen & Toubro Limited & team conducted a pool campus recruitment drive for Electronics and Communication, Telecommunication, Electrical & Electronics Engineering candidates of 2014 batch. Twenty-five students are shortlisted for the interview round. The results are awaited.

Krishi Yantra Mela-2015: A Mega Agriculture Machinery Fair

Krishi Yantra Mela-2015; a Mega Agriculture Machinery Fair has been organised by The Campco Ltd., Arecanut Research and Development Foundation (R.), Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology, Puttur and Vivekananda Polytechnic, Puttur have organized a Mega Krishi Yantra Mela at Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology, Puttur, from 24th to 26th January 2015. This mela is designed to exhibit agriculture machineries especially those helpful in the cultivation of Arecanut allied crops, their post harvest technology and alternate uses. Nearly three lakh farmers and other dignitaries from different states are expected to participate in this mega event.

To encourage students in the engineering field to take up more and more projects in the above areas “Varanashi Subraya Bhat Awards” have been instituted by giving cash prizes of Rs. 50,000/- as first and Rs. 25,000/- as second prizes. Students can participate in this mega event as this is an opportunity for them to expose themselves and interact with the farming community and other dignitaries. They may also be asked to exhibit their innovations in this event for the benefit of Areca Farmers. The stalls will be given free to them for this event. Those who wish to register themselves for the event may contact Mr. Girish Hegde, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Research manuscript titled “Development and Analysis of Various State of the Art Techniques for Face Recognition under varying Poses” by Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, is published in Scopus (Elsevier) Indexed Peer Reviewed International Journal Recent Patents on Engineering, UAE, Vol. 8, No. 2, pp. 143-146, December (2014), ISSN: 2212-4047 (Online), ISSN: 1872-2121 (Print).

Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade visits Sahyadri

Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade , Dharmadhikari, Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala and Shri B. Ramanath Rai, Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology, Karnataka along with other Vishwa Tulu Parba dignitaries visited Sahyadri. They addressed the Press Conference on Vishwa Tulu Parba – 2014 and answered the questions posed by the Press. They inspected the venue in which all programmes will be conducted during the Vishwa Tulu Parba -2014.

Alumnus of MBA Addresses the Student Community

Mr. Ashwin Sheka, Branch Manager, Zabeel International Institute of Management & Technology, UAE an alumnus (second batch MBA) of the college addressed the MBA students on the topic ' Neuro Linguistic Programming and its Applications.' As a branch manager his expertise lies in consulting, developing strategic business plans and managing branch operations with key focus on delivering business benefits, customer delight and profitability. He has also demonstrated skills in implementing strategic business plans, maintaining seamless cross-functional coordination and ensuring optimal utilization of resources. In his lecture he emphasised on the subconscious and unconscious mind and stated that it is a home of beliefs, motivation and behaviour. He said that each person consciously edits his perceptions of the world. Students were very receptive as he narrated his life's experiences and to what he is today linking it to NLP.

World AIDS Day Programme Held in the Campus

Sahyadri College of Nursing organized HIV/AIDS observation programme-2014 in the Campus. Prof. Naveen S. A., Principal, Sahyadri P.U. College was the Chief Guest for the programme. Prof. Mrs. Irene Veigas, Principal Sahyadri College of Nursing presided over the function. There was a scientific session by one of the M.Sc. student regarding HIV/AIDS, on the theme of the programme and future goals to be attained. A Collage and Quiz Competition was also held on the occasion. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the competition by the Chief Guest.
