Vishwa Tuluvere Parba 2014 held at Sahyadri Campus

The Vishwa Tuluvere Parba-2014 was held with pomp and grandeur in the Sahyadri campus. The event was organized by the Akhila Bharata Tulu Okutta to mark its 25th year in collaboration with Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy.

Dharmasthala Dharmadikari Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade and chief priest of Tirupati Venkataramana Temple, Dr. A. V. Ramana Deekshitulu inaugurated the Vishwa Tuluvere Parba. In his address, Ramana Deekshitulu said, "Tulu language will survive, grow and develop till the sun and the moon last. The rich culture and language handed down to us by our ancestors should be protected and further developed. Vishwa Tuluvere Parba is an occasion to celebrate and to protect the language and culture of this land for the future generation."

Padmashri Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade who presided over the programme said, "Several hands have worked for the success of Vishwa Tulu Samelana which was held at Ujire in 2009. The present day Tuluvas have started to use the Tulu script in their wedding invitation cards. In contemporary scenario, speaking Tulu has become a matter of pride and duty of Tuluvas. Tulunadu is a blessed land. There are several temples throughout Tulunadu. Several great personalities have been born in this sacred land. Tulunadu has witnessed several feats of achievements by various personalities. There are several educational institutions and people are into hotel and bank business in several parts of the world. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Sahyadri Educational Institutions, Mayor Mahabala Maarla and MLA Moideen Bhava also spoke on the occasion.

Health Minister U. T. Khader, Mrs. Hemavathi V. Heggade, ZP president Asha Thimappa Gowda, Dharmapal U. Devadiga, Damodar Nisarga, and Janaki Brahmavar, president of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy and others were also present on the occasion.

‘Sahyadri Tuluvere Isiri’, an inter-collegiate cultural competition was also organised in the Campus and was sponsored by Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. Mrs. Shreelatha, AAO , Mr. Naveen Pilar, Head, Department of Art & Culture and Mrs. Nithisha Rodrigues, Director, Department of Physical Education coordinated the programme. Sri Shasthavu Bhothanatheshwara Trust also organised ‘Kreedotsava 2014’. The photography exhibition organized by Mr. Vasanath Kedige, Media Consultant, featured prize winning photographs of the Photography Competition held on account of the Vishwa Tuluvere Parba. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary was honored on the occasion along with other dignitaries.

The three-day event saw around one and half lakh people visiting the event which was held on the banks of the river Nethravathi. Various entertainment programmes were organised during the day as well as late into the night. Exhibition of Tulu traditional attires, ‘Atil Aragane,’ sports events and photo exhibitions, book expo and art expo attracted the visitors. The Trustees, Management, Teaching and Non-teaching staff of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management voluntarily contributed their time and effort towards the success of the three-day programme.

Dharmadhikari Rajarshi Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade and Smt. Hemavathi Heggade

The Heggade and Smt. Hemavathi Heggade visited Sahyadri campus in connection with the inauguration of the recently concluded Vishwa Tuluvere Parbha 2014 held at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. Mr Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation and Mrs. Prasanna Bhandary, Trustee, welcomed the guests. On their walk around the Campus, the dignitaries appreciated the infrastructure and facilities provided by the Management. Dr. Heggade said that the college has provided everything; a good learning environment and quality education that are truly exceptional.

Mr. B. Ramanath Rai - Karnataka's Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment

Karnataka's Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment and Dakshina Kannada District in-charge Minister, Mr. B. Ramanath Rai visited the Campus and took part in the recently held three-day Vishwa Tuluvere Parba under the aegis of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy. He is also the president of the Vishwa Tuluvere Parba Committee. He appreciated the hospitality shown by the management, trustees, faculty and staff. Mr. Rai said, "Thanks to Mr. Manjunath Bhandary and the entire Sahyadri family” for getting involved and also for being part of the Tulu Fest. Dharmadhikari Rajarshi Dr. Veerendra Heggade and all other committee members were present on the occasion.

Bishop of Mangalore, Rev. Fr. Aloysius Paul D'Souza

Bishop of Mangalore, Rev. Fr. Aloysius Paul D'Souza, visited Sahyadri campus. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, welcomed and honoured the Bishop. Rev. Fr. Aloysius Paul D'Souza inaugurated 'Tuluvere Aisiri Pantha' on the second day of the 'Vishwa Tuluvere Parba' held on the occasion of the silver jubilee of the formation of Akhil Bharat Tulu Okkoota in association with Tulu Sahitya Academy. The Bishop gave a call for strengthening the concept of universal brotherhood and tolerance towards other human beings in the region. He was happy to see the aesthetically built infrastructure and facilities of the College. Chairman of Sahyadri Educational Institutions, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Tulu Okkoota president, Dharmapal U. Devadiga, honorary president, Damodar Nisarga, Kadri Navneeth Shetty, and several other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Cape Town University Professor Dr. Ramesh Kuppuswamy Visits Sahyadri

Dr. Ramesh Kuppuswamy, B. Eng (Hons), M.Tech. (IIT-Madras), Ph. D. (Singapore), SM, SME - Professor Cape Town University, South Africa, visited the College and met and interacted with Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal. He was delighted about the various facilities and infrastructure provided by the management. He conveyed his best wishes to the management, staff and students of the institution.

Dr. Kuppuswamy 's research is mainly on Advanced Manufacturing particularly on the material removal processes and machine design. His process and product innovations centered on manufacturing: complex profiles, ultra high precision, new materials, miniaturization, ecological friendly and productivity. In the past, he has undertaken several industrial research projects on high speed grinding, high efficiency deep grinding, electro-discharge grinding, profile grinding, ecological grinding, micro machining, ultra precision machining, tooling design, condition monitoring and grinding wheel preparation. His field of interest is in machine design related to precision manufacturing. His name is listed in Marquis Who's Who in the World 2009 and he is an international reviewer for journals. Dr. Ramesh interacted with faculty members of various departments and addressed research opportunities in South Africa. He shared with them his rich experience and knowledge of research in various fields.

Faculty Development Programme on Research Methodology Held in the Campus

The three-day Faculty Development Programme on Research Methodology was inaugurated by Dr. Bino Paul, Professor, Tata Institute of Social Science. Dr. A. P. Achar, Director, Department of Business Administration gave the introduction about the program. Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, delivered the presidential remarks. This programme was organized with a view to enable researchers to define the research problem and develop an appropriate methodology for their studies, to help researchers identify research gaps and write a literature review and to develop an overview of the different quantitative and qualitative techniques used in management research.

Over thirty participants were happy to learn research related methods. Dr. Bino Paul gave a very interesting presentation on research methodology. Staff of various departments of Engineering and the Department of Business Administration attended the three-day sessions. Hands-on training on SPSS and Excel Research Application were also given during the programme.

Mrs. Roopashree, Mrs. Deepthi Dayanand & Ms. Pavanalaxmi, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering attended a two-week ISTE Workshop on Control Systems conducted by IIT Khargpur under the National Mission on Education through ICT (MHRD, Govt. of India) at Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangalore. Prof. Siddhartha Mukhopadhay, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Khargpur and Prof. T. K. Ghoshal, Department of Electrical Engineering Jadavpur University, Kolkatta shared their academic and research experiences.

Fernandes, Assistant Professors, Department of Mechanical Engineering, attended a one-week workshop on Advances in Bio-Lubricants and Cutting Fluids (ABC-14) TEQIP-II sponsored at Malnad College of Engineering, Hassan. Dr. Ing. B. V. A. Rao, Rtd. Professor, IIT Madras, was the keynote speaker on ABC-14. Prof. Sathish V. Kailas IISc., Bengaluru., Dr. C. S. Ramesh, PESIT University, Bengaluru, Dr. Y. M. Shashidara, M.C.E., Hassan., Dr. Balakrishne Gowda, Professor, University of Agricultural Science, GKVK, Bengaluru, Mr. Martin V., Rtd. Scientist, IOCL, Faridabad., and Mr. Jagadish, IISc., Bengaluru, shared their academic and research experiences. The faculty members also visited Ducom Instruments Pvt. Ltd. in Bengaluru, and the Bio-fuel Park, Madenur in Hassan.

Namma Tulunadu Photography Exhibition Held in the Campus

Namma Tulunadu; the photography exhibition held on the occasion of Vishwa Tuluvere Parbha 2014 was inaugurated by Sri Ananthapura Ishwarayya, veteran journalist and art critic. Smt. Janaki Brahmavar, President, Tulu Sahithya Academy, Mr. Yajna, Senior Photographer and Organizing President, Mr. Kedige Vasanth Rao, Organizing Secretary & Media Consultant for Sahyadri Educational Institutions and all other committee members of the Vishwa Tuluvere Parbha were present at the inauguration. The award winning photographs were displayed in the Exhibition Hall in the Campus. Large crowds of people were attracted to the exhibition which was appreciated and enjoyed by the visitors. Mr. Abhishek Saha and Mr. Loyed Alvares, Aptra Technologies coordinated the programme.

Talk on "Floating Island Township Presentation Built on the Mega Floating Harbour

Mr. Marapalli R. Vasudeva, former Director of Airports, Mr. V. K. Talithaya, former Senior Vice - President, MRPL,and Mr. Rajan Shashthri, formerly with Intel SUSA gave a brief talk on Floating Island Township Presentation Built on the Mega Floating Harbour which has been conceived and conceptualized by Prof. Emeritus B. N. Karkera.

His talk to the faculty members was on immune to sea waves to remain nearly rock steady, irrespective of sea roughness, located at nominal depth of 50 fathoms, which is at the sailing distance of around 2.5 to 3 hours from the Mangalore shore, base to coast guard to improve the effectiveness of their performance and base to Indian Navy and ONGC for oil and gas exploration.

Faculty Member Selected as Reviewer for SCI Indexed International Journal of Electronic Imaging

Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering is selected as reviewer in SCI Indexed International Journal of Electronic Imaging (JEI). JEI is peer-reviewed international journal which has Thomson Reuters Web of Science 5-Year Impact Factor of 1.024. JEI (ISSN: 1017-9909, E-ISSN: 1560-229X) is published by SPIE and IS&T, USA. JEI publishes papers in all technology areas that make up the field of electronic imaging and are normally considered in the design, engineering, and applications of electronic imaging systems. Sahyadri P. U. College Annual Sports Meet

Mrs. Shreelatha U. A., Academic Administrative Officer, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management graced the Fifth Annual Sports Meet of Sahyadri P. U. College as the Chief Guest. She received the guard of honour and declared the meet open. Mrs. Shreelatha emphasized the importance of extracurricular activities in shaping our lives. She urged the students to groom themselves into good citizens by adopting values like humility, sensitivity and commitment.

Sahyadri P. U. College: “Throw ball & Volley ball match results”

Sahyadri P. U. College organized Throw ball and Volley ball matches as a part of Annual Day Competitions for the current academic year. Team Black Horses led by Razila won the First place in the Throw ball match while Team Sky Breakers led by Neha. D. won the Second place. In the Volley ball match, Team Avengers led by Sanjan won the First place and Team Roar Bulls led by Sudeep won the Second place.
