Dr. K. N. Narasimha Adiga Chief Priest of the Sri Mookambika Temple Visits Sahyadris

Dr. Narasimha Adiga, Pradhana Archaka, Sri Mookambika Temple, Kollur, an eminent personality visited the Campus, blessed and guided the management and faculty fraternity. He also appreciated the infrastructure and facilities provided by the Management.

This family of priests has been worshiping goddess Mookambika for more than twenty five generations in the form of Shreechakra.

Mr. Jaimon D Quadros, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering has presented a research paper titled “Drilling Analysis of [0/90/0] Oriented Glass Fiber Reinforced Epoxy Plastic (GFRP) Composite Laminates” in the International Conference on ‘Polymer Composites ICPC-2014’, organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, NITK, Surathkal. The paper was co authored by Mr. Vaishak N. L., Mr. Suhas, Mr. Mahesh B Davanageri and Prof. S.S. Balakrishna, faculty members of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management.

Mr. Mahadev U.M., Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering has presented a research paper titled “Investigative Studies on the Mechanical Behaviour of Banana Fiber and Sugarcane Bagasse Powder Reinforced Polymer Composites” under the guidance of Dr. B. Siddeswarappa, Professor, Department of Industrial Production Engineering, UBDT College of Engineering, Davanagere, in the International Conference on ‘Polymer Composites ICPC-2014’ organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, NITK, Surathkal.

Faculty Member Presents Research Paper in International Symposium

A research paper titled `A Low Power 8-bit Asynchronous SAR ADC Design Using Charge Scaling DAC’ by Mr. Anush Bekal et.al, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering and Research Scholar at Indian Institute of information Technology (IIIT-A) was presented in the International Symposium on Electronic System Design held at NITK, Surathkal. Mr. Anush Bekal interacted with international pioneers in the semiconductor area. He had the privilege of meeting (from L to R in the photo), Prof. Masahiro Fujita, University of Tokyo, Japan and Shunpie Yamazaki, Semiconductor Energy Laboratory Co., Ltd., Japan, Prof. M. S. Bhat, NITK, Surathkal, Organizing Co-Chair, Prof. S. Mohan, Center for Nanoscience and Engineering (CeNSE), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, Prof. Hafizur Rahaman, IIEST, Shibpur, Program Co-Chair and Dr. Zoran Stamenkovie, IHP, GmbH, Frankfurt(order), Germany.

The objective of the International Symposium on Electronic System Design (ISED) was to provide a congenial yet serious platform in which experts from academia and industry can interact with young researchers entering the fields of Electronics, Computer Science, Communication and allied engineering areas. Developments in this domain will have a large role to play in developing technologies for the future that have to be user-friendly in addition to being eco-sensitive and energy efficient. It is hoped that interactions between experts and novices as well as research groups facilitated by this conference will make concrete contributions to advancing the state of art.

MBA Semester III Results: Sahyadri 94.87%

The VTU results of Semester III of MBA saw an impressive percentage score in the recently held examinations in December 2014-15. Ms. Prajna A. was ranked the highest in the college with 82.88%, followed by Ms. Thejaswini with 81.55% and Ms. Renuka Shenoy with 80.44%. Out of one hundred and seventeen students who sat for the VTU examination, thirty three obtained a distinction, sixty five students a first class, and thirteen students obtained a second class, bringing the overall percentage score to 94.87%.

One-day Workshop on Entrepreneur Motivation Program and Business Idea Competition

The Department of Business Administration, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management in association with Spandana T.V Channel, organized a one-day workshop on Entrepreneur Motivation Program and Business Idea Competition for the B. Com final year students of Trisha College, Udupi. The progamme was inaugurated by Mr.Vilas Nayak, C.E.O, Hanuman Group of Concerns and Managing Director of Spandana Channel. Dr. A.P. Achar, Director, Department of Business Administration, Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management and Mr. James, Faculty Member, RUDSET, were the key resource Persons. The Main objective of the Program was to create awareness among Graduates about entrepreneurship as a career option. It helped the students to understand various facets of entrepreneurship and guidelines to generate business ideas. The Program was co-ordinated by Mr. Karthik Bhandary, Trustee, Trisha College, Udupi.

A paper titled “Digital Resources and Services at SCEM, Mangalore: A study”, by Mrs. Bharathi K., Librarian, has been published in Scholarly Communication and Knowledge Management in Higher Educational Institutions, proceedings of the International Conference ‘ICSKH 2014’, held at K. L. University, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.

Sahyadri P. U. College: “Talents Day and PTA Meeting” Held in the Campus

“Talents Day and PTA Meeting” of Sahyadri P. U. College was held in the Campus. Mrs. Mona Mendonca, English Faculty, Carmel College, Modankap, Bantwal and Mrs. Babitha Alva, PTA President, Sahyadri P. U. College, were the Chief Guests.

Mrs. Mona Mendonca delivered a comprehensive lecture, filled with stories and anecdotes on the topic “Teenage Problems.” She explained the transitional phase of adolescence and the behavioral changes that occur among children. Mrs. Mendonca observed that parents need to play a pro-active role in the lives of their children by providing them attention, affection, assurance and moral support so that they don’t get alienated and fall into bad company. She appealed to students to take life seriously and to keep their parents happy by making the best use of the opportunities that come their way.

Mrs. Babitha Alva, offered her best wishes and complimented the college for fulfilling the expectations of the parents.

Mr. Naveen S. A. Principal, Sahyadri P. U. College presented the Annual Report on the activities and achievements of the college in the current academic year. In his address, he felt the present youth are not ‘useless’, ‘careless’ or ‘value-less’ but are ‘used less’, ‘cared less’ and ‘valued less’. He urged the parents to take keen interest in the activities of their children and sought their co-operation in ensuring academic excellence.

Top-scorers in II PU Board Exam (March 2014) and Term Exams were felicitated on the occasion. Winners of various competitions organized by Science Club and winners of V Annual Sports Meet were also honoured.

The formal programme was followed by splendid cultural performances by students.
