Sahyadrians Recognised With Young Indians Award for Best Young Innovators

Riding high on the success of making it to the top ten in the India Innovation Initiative-2015 Competition Navjith P Karkera, Semester V, Mechanical Engineering and Jagath Biddappa, Semester V, Electronics & Communication Engineering, interns at Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd were awarded with the Young Indians Award for Best Young Innovators for their Smart Electronic Helmet for Motorcycle invention by Dr. Harshavardhan, Incumbent Minister, Ministry of Science and Technology (India) and Ministry of Earth Sciences, in Delhi. The Innovation Initiative-2015 Competition; a joint initiative of AICTE, Government of India (DST) & Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) was held at IIT Delhi.

A total of 2700 innovations were received from across the country from students, industry professionals, individual and grassroots innovators in various fields such as Life Sciences, Electronics & Communications, IT, Energy and Engineering Technologies. After a first level of screening by an expert panel comprising of eminent scientists and industrialists, the top 76 innovations had been showcased at the i3 National Fair at IIT Delhi. From these, a high level national jury will select the top 9 innovations (one special innovation) based on the technical feasibility, market potential of the innovation and its impact on the industry, society and environment.

Faculty Member Attends Workshop on User-Centric Mobile Computing Shares Knowledge with Peers

Mr Naitik ST, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Science & Engineering attended a three-day workshop with hands-on training on User-Centric Mobile Computing organised by the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at IIT, Guwahati.

User-centric computing, particularly in the context of mobile devices, is an emerging field of study. With the advent of affordable smart phones and wearable computers, the field has gained even more prominence. Unfortunately, the area is still not included in the curricula of Indian Universities. The course was aimed to equip the participants with the fundamental concepts necessary for the understanding of the area, along with hands-on exercises on Android programming, an essential component of user-centric mobile computing.

Enriched with this knowledge at the recent workshop attended by him, Mr. Naitik then made a presentation to all the faculty members of Information Science & Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering at Sahyadri. The Principal and the Dean Academic were also present.

Faculty Members' Papers Published in International Journal

A research paper "Recognizing Faces Across Age Progressions and Under Occlusion" http://benthamscience.com/journals/recent-patents-on-computer-science/article/136205/ by Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering has been published in the Special issue of Scopus (Elsevier) indexed International Journal Recent Patents on Computer Science. This paper is supported by Ms. Vineetha M Pereira, Lecturer of English.

A research paper titled “Diophantine Edge Graceful Graph” "http://benthamscience.com/journals/recent-patents-on-computer-science/article/136205/ by Dr. Mariadoss S.A, Professor and Mrs. Sunita Priya Dsilva, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics has been published in the Special issue of Scopus (Elsevier) indexed International Journal Recent Patents on Computer Science, USA. This special issue was guest edited by Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering.

Students Visit Bosch and gain inputs from Bosch Officials

Mr. Shrajan Bhandary and Mr. Rakhesh Permudanayya, Semester VII, Electronics & Communication Engineering and interns of Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd. were invited to Robert Bosch India, Bangalore by Mr. Aakarsh Naidu, Strategic Initiatives at IIM-B Startup Accelerator and Incubator to have an interaction on IoT space. Students had an interaction with Mr. Harsha Madhava, Manager – Business Development and other key members. Bosch officials were impressed by the activities carried on in the startup and also initiatives taken by Sahyadri in promoting entrepreneurs.

TVS Training & Services Recruitment Drive

Mr. Bharathson M, Assistant Manager-BFSI and Mr. Terrence G, Executive-Human Resources, TVS Training & Services, Chennai, conducted an off campus recruitment drive at Sahyadri. They were both impressed with the infrastructure and facilities provided in the Campus and have promised their support to the hands-on lab which has been set up for the students.

Faculty Member Selected as Guest Editor for International Journal

Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering is selected as the Guest Editor for Science Citation Indexed (SCI) International Journal on Current Medical Imaging Reviews, USA. This special issue titled “Frontiers in Intelligent Systems Development for Medical Image Processing & Computer Vision” invites research manuscripts from Medical Practitioners and Engineers worldwide working in the area of Medical Image Processing. http://benthamscience.com/journal-files/special-issue-details/CMIR-SII20151130-01.pdf
