Well-Wishers of Sahyadri Visit the Campus

Mr. Rahul Kharge, son of Sri. Mallikarjun Kharge, former Minister of Railways along with Mr. Radha Krishna, Trustee of Bhandary Foundation visited the campus and interacted with the Chairman, the Principal and the faculty members. They were taken up by the campus and its infrastructure. Mr. Kharge appreciated the professional development achieved by Sahyadri in a short span. As the guests went around the campus they were impressed by the various facilities available to impart education in a holistic way. They were extremely glad with the achievements of the students in their projects. The ‘Hands-on Experience Lab’ which is an initiative taken up by Sahyadri was appraised by them and they wished well for the future growth of the College.

Mr. Sanjeev Baitmangalkar Addresses the MBA Students

Mr. Sanjeev Baitmangalkar, Principal Consultant, Strategy & Lean Management, Stratmann Consulting, Bengaluru addressed the first year MBA students on the topic ‘Recipe for success’. In his address he highlighted that the definition for success is different for different individuals and it is a never ending process that begins from within. He emphasised that we should learn from our failures, dream big, manage time, handle stress, build relationships through networking, develop communication skills, be persistent and be an entrepreneur. He also emphasised that each one should develop the habit of reading which will contribute to the success of an individual.

Mr. Sanjeev has forty years of Core Competence in Strategy and Management, Lean Manufacturing, Innovation, Industrial Marketing, Business Process Reengineering, Turnarounds etc. of large organizations in India and abroad. He was among the pioneers who introduced ‘Lean Manufacturing’ in India in the early 1990’s and is credited for the successful complete transformation of Mysore Kirloskar’s (MKL) Hubli factory as India’s first, full and comprehensive lean factory.

Mr. Ananth Prabhu G Successfully Defends his Doctoral Thesis

Mr. Ananth Prabhu G, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering successfully defended his PhD thesis titled “Performance Improvement of Smith Waterman Algorithm using Parallel Processing”. He has also published 3 international journals and 2 international papers. He registered for his doctoral studies in 2011 at VTU under the able guidance of Dr. Ganesh Aithal. The management and staff of Sahyadri congratulate him and wish him well in his endeavors.

Dr. Tenzin Pasang participates in the Conference at the Sera Monastic University

Dr. Tenzin Pasang was invited to participate in the Mind and Life XXX conference at Sera Monastic University, Bylakuppe, Karnataka, India which was co-organized by the Mind and Life Institute, USA and Dalai Lama Trust, India with focus on contemporary scientific and ancient Indian philosophy perspectives on ‘Perception, Concepts, and Self’. The purpose of the four day conference was to creatively and critically investigate themes of mutual interest concerning the nature of reality, consciousness, the implications of recent developments in modern science, as well as to tackle the ethical issues raised by powerful technical innovations made possible by scientific discoveries. In this dialogue, leading scientists come together with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and a select group of scholars with the expectation that such cross-cultural dialogue can lead to mutual enrichment and even to new insights and embark new lines of research.

The conference has brought together some of the world’s foremost scientists and philosophers from reputed institutions such as the University of California–San Diego, USA; University of Wisconsin–Madison, USA; Smith College; Yale-NUS College, Singapore; Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA and many other with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and hundreds of scholars and scientists.

Dr. Tenzin Pasang has been the advisor for Sera Jay Science Center since 2013. He realized that the dialogue between the ancient Indian philosophy and modern science has opened up several gray areas where vast opportunities exist for research. These new avenues have led to open many research centers in reputed institutes like MIT, Stanford University, Emory University, Smith University etc. Dr. Tenzin Pasang with other Tibetan Scientific scholars got a special audience and an opportunity for discussion with the HH the 14th Dalai Lama on the last day of the conference.

The Newspapers Feature Sahyadri, the Engineering College of the Year

The ‘Udayavani’ and the ‘Times of India’ feature Sahyadri as the best among the engineering colleges which is another feather in the cap for the institute. The Higher Education Review has named Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management as the Engineering College of the year 2015 for the positive impact that the college has made on society and the education fraternity.

The review is a yearly listing that showcases the best engineering colleges. An expert team consisting of the HR managers and educators evaluated several nominations to conclude with the comprehensive set of engineering colleges in the country that have performed well in parameters such as infrastructure, faculty, industry interaction, innovative programmes, research and placements.

TCS Recruitment Drive

The TCS held a campus drive exclusively for Sahyadri in the campus. Five team members of the HR team visited on the occasion and fifty students attended the interview. The results of which are awaited.

Faculty Members Present Papers at International Conferences

Mr Harisha from the department of Computer Science has presented a research paper at the International conference on "Computing and Communication Network 2015" (CoCoNet 15) organized by the Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management ,Kerala (IIITM-K). The paper will be published in the IEEE conference proceedings.

Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering presented two of his Research papers titled “Image Quality Assessment Based Approach to Estimate the Age of the Pencil Sketch” and “Self Similarity Descriptor and Local Descriptors Based Composite Sketch Matching” at the Fifth International Springer Conference on Soft Computing for Problem Solving (SocProS 2015) held at IIT, Roorkee, Saharanpur Campus. The conference proceeding will be published in Springer Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing and indexed by ISI Proceedings, EI-Compendex, DBLP, SCOPUS, Google Scholar and Springerlink. During the conference Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes got an opportunity to interact with the eminent scientists Dr. Ashok Deshpande, Founding Chair, Berkeley Institute of Soft Computing, USA, Prof. Efren Mezura, University of Veracruz, Mexico, Prof. Lipo Wang, National Technical University, Singapore, Prof. Andries P Engelbrecht, University of Pretoria, South Africa.

Faculty Member Invited As Resource Person

Mr. Naveen Pilaar, Department of Art and Culture, was invited as a resource person for a workshop on ‘Art for Primary Education’, at St. Ann’s Teacher’s Training Institute, Mangalore.
