Chairman Invited as the Chief Guest for the Annual College Day of SDM Pre-University College, Ujire

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation was invited as the Chief Guest for the Annual College Day of SDM Pre-University College, Ujire. While addressing the gathering, he emphasised on the criticality of taking right decision at the right time and at the right direction which shall lay the foundation for the student’s future. He also highlighted that Education is a mode of transferring knowledge & information which should be balanced well between the two. He stimulated the students by mentioning that each individual has a unique feature of creativity which should be carried throughout the life and career. He urged the student community to be open-minded in order to acquire knowledge which is a continuous process and each one should enjoy this process. Mr. Bhandary also applauded the student achievers in different fields.

Prof. Dinesh Chowta presided over the function and he appreciated Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management for driving unique programs like SPSS, SSTH and so on. He insisted on a thorough analysis that the students should undertake before making a choice of the college or even the professional course.

He spoke to the students about different subject like Civil Service exams, GST and tax related issues. He spoke about various challenges, a civil servant has to face.

He also encouraged students to work hard with determination in-order to achieve success in life. He has assured the students of visiting Sahyadri again.

Faculty and Alumnus Present Research Article at SDPS - 2016, USA

Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering and Mr. Mohammad Anwar, Alumnus of the college, present a research article "Simultaneous Fusion and Denoising of Bone - Vessel Information via PCA Based Fusion" at 21st International Conference of the Society for Design and Process Science (SDPS-2016) hosted by the prestigious Rosen College of Hospitality Management, University of Central Florida, Orlando, USA. SDPS-2016 attracts industrialists and academicians interested in transformative, trans-disciplinary research from five different continents. This conference is attended by professionals from industries, governments, educational and research institutes, entrepreneurs, healthcare professionals and executives, educators, scientists, practitioners, and organizational leaders. It focuses to explore the vast possibilities of highly complex systems that emerge from interconnected disciplinary foci of today’s science, medicine, and technology.

The research article is co-authored by Dr. Ananth Prabhu, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Ms. Achala Shetty, Training Head, DTlabz - Realizing Dreams Through Technology.

Sahyadri Research team presented KCTU Project Proposal

The 5th Expert Committee meeting of Karnataka Council for Technological Upgradation (KCTU) for screening and recommending the R & D project proposals for sanction of financial assistance to setup R & D centres, chaired by Prof. H.S Jamadagni, Dept. of Electronic Systems Engineering, Indian Institute of Science was held at Bangalore. Prof. Richard Pinto and Dr. Jayarama presented the Project Proposal on ‘Development of prototype ethanol sensor product based on PLD Grown BiFeO3 thin films’ for partial funding from KCTU. Prof. Manjappa and Industry Partner Mr. Bhagavath, iWave Systems Technologies Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru were also present during the meeting.

The total expected funding is Rs. 1.15 Crores out of which Rs. 65 Lakhs will be contributed by Sahyadri and the remaining Rs. 50 Lakhs will be funded by KCTU. It is worth mentioning that - in connection to this proposal Prof. Richard Pinto has an Indian patent on growth of BiFeO3 films and its ethanol sensing properties obtained in 2002-03 during his days at TIFR-IITB. The Preliminary work has been done at IIT Bombay, Nano-Fabrication facility (IITB-NF) under the Indian Nano Users Program (INUP).

Four small scale industries namely M/s HMV Industries, Chikmagalur, M/s G T Technologies, Vittal, Mangalore, M/s Chirag Industries, Chikmagalur and M/s Indochem Industries, Chikmagalur have prepared to go for industrial production in either of the three locations – Chikmagalur, Mangalore or Bantwal incase the project is successfully completed & the design details are given as per the requirement of the user.

This project was submitted by Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi as Chief Promoter, Dr. Jayarama A, Dr. Richard Pinto, Dr. Niraj Joshi, Dr. Rathish R Gatti, Dr. Navin Bappalige and Prof. S. Manjappa as Promoters from Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management along with DTLabz, Sahyadri-edu DREAMERS R&D Pvt. Ltd and iWave Systems Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, as beneficiary Industries for KCTU funding.

The project aims to room temperature alcohol (Ethanol) detection with high selectivity and sensitivity, which has a remarkable application as a device in traffic management (drunken driving), food fermentation, wine making and medical process etc.

MBA Students & Faculty attend "The National NHRD Students & Faculty Conference" in Bengaluru

A total of sixty nine first year MBA Students and four faculty members from the Department of Business Administration participated in the "The National NHRD Students & Faculty Conference" held at Christ University Campus, Bengaluru.

The NHRD team is appreciative about Sahyadri MBA for the overwhelming participation that too in huge numbers. It is also worth noting that Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management is the only college from Mangalore with representation from students and faculty members in this mega event.

In addition to this, six students from the first year MBA are selected as volunteers for the entire NHRD event who had an opportunity to visit Volvo Plant at Hoskote earlier this year. These students have been issued free passes to the main conference and NHRD Showcase that was held at Palace Grounds, Bengaluru.

MBA Faculty invited for a Guest Talk at School of Management, Manipal University (MU-SOM)

Prof. Sushma V, Department of Business Administration was invited to address the 1st year and 2nd year students of MBA – Health Care on “Employee Discipline at Workplace”. In her session, she emphasised on how Disciplinary Actions are taken to inculcate a safe & secured work culture. Students were apprised on the various levels of offence and how each case is handled as per the HR policies & procedures. They were given heads up on the “RED HOT STOVE RULE” followed in corporate organization to drive discipline among employees. They were also informed of several indiscipline acts that may lead to disciplinary actions. The talk concluded with a Q&A session wherein students were given clarity on real time scenarios of Employee Discipline in a Health Care sector.

Mr. Naveen Pilar invited as the resource person

Mr. Naveen Pilar, Coordinator, Department of Art & Culture was invited as the resource person on the occasion of NSS Raashtriya Seva Yojana Camp organized by Shree Gokarnanatheshwara College, Mangalore. He focused mainly on the Warli Art and presented it in the form a demo during his session.

MBA Faculty & students attend 20th NHRD Annual Conference in Bengaluru

Prof. Ramesh K G & Prof. Girish, Department of Business Administration along with Ms. Mouna Muttamma, Ms. Aisha, Ms. Aswathi, Mr. Renjith and Ms. Lavanya, first year MBA students attended “Spirit of Entrepreneurship”, 20th NHRD Annual Conference held at Palace Grounds, Bengaluru. The theme of the conference covered across three different contexts:

1. Young companies that are Gaining Momentum - typically those beyond a start-up stage with a unique culture and spirit. 2. Organisations that do well year after year and stay relevant over time due to their ability to reinvent constantly – Sustaining Momentum 3. Finally those who are Re-Imagining Momentum - organisations that are learning to dance in the midst of all the disruptions around them.

The faculty members and students also attended the NHRD Showcase. NHRD Showcase is a signature event of NHRD which is shaped to bolster the enduring spirit of HR practices. It is a unique trade show style event for HR professionals to present their most impactful HR practices & initiatives.
