Dr. T N Prakash Kammardi, Chairman of Karnataka Agriculture Price Commission, GOK, visits Sahyadri

Dr. T N Prakash Kammardi, Chairman of Karnataka Agriculture Price Commission, Government of Karnataka, along with Mr. Srivatsava G, President, Foretell Business Solutions Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru visited Sahyadri and interacted with the Chairman, Principal and Faculty on matters related to Agriculture and its scope for study in MBA & Engineering.

Dr. T N Prakash Kammardi has thirty years of illustrious career at University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore in teaching, research, guiding PG students and extension in the fields of agricultural / natural resources / environmental economics, marketing, price analysis, international trade, sustainable / organic agriculture, bio diversity, traditional knowledge and indigenous technologies along with providing academic advocacy, empirical inputs and technical consultancy to the governments, policy makers, NGOs, organizations and others since 1984.

During the interaction, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation requested support from Dr. T N Prakash Kammardi to join hands with our institute in creating awareness among the students on the vast area of Agriculture - Challenges and Opportunities which shall build a connect between the students and the Agricultural sector. Dr. T N Prakash Kammardi proposed to conduct Agriculture based One-Day Workshop by experts and also as a continuous process for all the batches that come in. He also suggested sending students on a visit to APMC (Agricultural Produce Market Committee) and doing a comparative study on pricing of farmers and the retailers as the difference between the two is huge. Students can also indulge in studying the root cause of the problems faced by the farmers. He also urged the faculty to invest time on writing research articles along with students on their domain area in connection to agriculture. This interactive session has paved a way for enhanced learning opportunities for the students and has also increased their career opportunities.

A One Day Workshop on “How to Excel” in Competitive Examinations to the Pre-University students A One Day Workshop on “How to Excel” in Competitive Examinations to the Pre-University students A One Day Workshop on “How to Excel” in Competitive Examinations was organized by Vijayavani in association with Vikas Pre-University College and Sahyadri college of Engineering & Management at Mount Carmel Auditorium for the Pre-University students.

The Program was inaugurated by Sri. Krishna J Palemar, former MLA and Chairman, Vikas Educational Institution. Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management was the Guest of Honor. During his address, he stated that self confidence is very essential to excel in life. He also said that, students must be guided in a proper way to choose their field.

Mr. Surendra Wagle, Bureau Chief of Vijayavani and Dr. Ananth Prabhu G, Director of Vikas Edu solution were present for the inaugural function.

Followed by the inaugural ceremony, two sessions for the students were conducted by Prof. Vipin Narayanan, coordinator, Vikas ACE coaching and Dr. Ananth Prabhu G. Students had an interactive session with the Resource persons.

Sahyadri Association of M.Tech Civil Engineers (SAMCE) inaugurated

Sahyadri Association of M.Tech Civil Engineers (SAMCE) was inaugurated and Dr. Katta Venkatraman, Professor and Dean, Department of Civil Engineering, NITK, Surathkal was the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony.

Dr. Katta Venkatraman in his key note address stressed on the importance of hard working to emerge successful in one’s career and how one’s intelligence and hard work should go hand in hand to gain greater heights in every phase of the career. He also congratulated the Civil Engineering Department for forming a PG Association.

Dr. Premanand Shenoy, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering & the Guest of Honour of the function, in his speech emphasised that the Post Graduate students should perform as a link between the Department and the undergraduate students. In his address, he extended a whole hearted support in providing internships and industry interactions for the Post Graduate students and highlighted the various opportunities that one should be exposed to.

Dr. D L Prabhakara, Director, Sahyadri Educational Institutions, in his address, wished all the members of the association a grand success. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal presided over the function and in his presidential address said that this was right time to mechanize the process to execute the project in the stipulated time duration.

Jayachandra Aradhya, CEO, Silicon Microsystems visited the campus

Jayachandra Aradhya, CEO, Silicon Microsystems visited the campus and interacted with the start-up companies on the marketing perspective. He had series of discussion with the members of EDU dreamers Pvt Ltd and shared real life practical experiences as an Entrepreneur. Dr. Manjappa, Director Research & Consultancy facilitated the interaction.

Silicon Microsystems is into Universal VLSI-FPGA evaluation board, optical fibre communication, embedded boards on PIC, AVR, 8051, 68k controller’s power electronics, instrumentation, microwave & micro processor trainers’ universal VLSI-FPGA-CPLD evaluation board, optical fibre and many more.

Jayachandra Aradhya expressed his support with a concrete roadmap for start-ups at Sahyadri and shared his best wishes to the institute in its professional endeavour to produce practicing Engineers.

Twelve second year MBA students have been selected for Cafe Manager Trainee Program by Cafe Coffee Day in the recently held campus recruitment drive.

Cafe Coffee Day is part of Coffee Day Global Limited. The group operates close to 20,000 acres of Coffee plantations across prime properties located in & around 100 sq km of finest coffee growing area in India located in Chikmagalur District of Karnataka State. Cafe Coffee Day operates more than 1500 plus outlets in national and international markets.


Faculty members visit BVB College of Engineering and Technology, Hubbali

Faculty Members from the Department of Mathematics attended a One Day Faculty Development Programme organized at BVB College of Engineering and Technology, Hubbali. The major focus during the program was on visualizing graphs in Mathematics using tablet. Concepts relating to ‘GeoGebra‘and ‘Moodle’ software’s were introduced. Teaching methodologies to the Engineering students were elaborated during the session. Our faculty members also had an opportunity to interact with the students of BVB College.

In the recently held State Level Weight Lifting Championship - 2016 organised by the Dakshina Kannada Weight lifting association, Vikyath V S, Second year MBA student secured Second place in up to 105 Category - Weight Lifting competition.

MBA Faculty attend an FDP on “Funding Agencies Research Grant & Proposal Writing”

Dr. Vishal Samartha, Prof. Gayathri Shetty and Prof. Sushma V attended a One Day - Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Funding Agencies Research Grant & Proposal Writing” organised by St. Joseph’s College of Commerce, Bengaluru. Dr. M Jayakumar was the resource person, who in his four decades of research experience has operated projects and schemes worth Rs. 400 lakhs by drawing funds from UGC, ICSSR, MHRD and so on. The programme covered sessions on preparing a research proposal in social science area, briefing on the minor and major research projects funded by UGC and also introduction to ICSSR and other funding agencies.

Apart from the mentioned sessions, Dr. M Jayakumar stressed on the importance of striking a balance between teaching and research as it is the need of NAAC and other governing bodies since they lay immense emphasis on research for academic institutions. He also urged the participants to publish quality research articles in recognized journals than publishing numerous research articles in unrecognized journals. Participants were updated with the list of websites which shall provide enormous information on research grant.

Winter Training Program on Software Development & Robotics

Flicker Infotech, the student Start-up of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management will be organizing Winter Training Program on Software Development and Robotics in the campus.
