Ms. Vaijayanthi Srinivasaraghavan & Dr. Subramani Ramakrishnan from IBM visit Sahyadri

Srinivasaraghavan, Certified Delivery Project Executive, GH Program Team, IBM accompanied by Dr. Subramani Ramakrishnan, Associate Partner, Location Executive-Chennai, IBM visited Sahyadri and interacted with the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary. Their agenda to visit the campus was mainly to explore the opportunities to feature the college success stories, with the concept of SHAPE-IT. Ms. Vaijayanthi, being in the IT industry for more than two decades, and working closely with the fresh talent from campus, and having received numerous feedback from student community, project managers / recruiters from Industry and the academia intends to survey the student requirements/needs to be prepared for the “INDUSTRY” while still in campus. She stated in her address that Seven Mantras for students’ success are hidden in the seven alphabets of the word SHAPE-IT.

During the visit, their focus was towards learning, One Unique practice at our campus that is being followed, uncommon and has resulted in positive outcomes. She expressed her desire in bringing out the book, outlining the student success stories, curriculum innovation, industry ready skills and research papers which will help in enhancing the book’s value to the student community. It is a proactive step for students to overcome tag of unemployability. The book would provide a road map in grooming themselves in right perspective to be practicing engineers. Sahyadri will provide the necessary information in the venture of SHAPE-IT.

They also interacted with the faculty members with regard to the concept of SHAPE IT and its five traits. Mr. M. V. Subramanian, Managing Director, Future Focus Infotech Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Prasad Nagaraj, and Mrs. Sangita Punit were also part of the interactive session.

Dr. Subramani Ramakrishnan in his address, presented a Power point to the faculty members and quoted few examples derived from his experiences gained during his visit to various engineering institutes. He stated that Self-learning, Hands-on, Antennas Up, Problem Solver and Entrepreneur are the five traits identified to make a mark in the society. He was of the opinion that learning is a continuous process and hence one has to make an effort to learn whenever there is an opportunity. He added that knowledge is just one click away in the present generation and stressed on the importance of blending research into teaching and curriculum alignment. He advised the faculty members to nurture students through mentoring. He also mentioned about Digital reputation building through active involvement in paper presentation and attending conferences.

Ms. Vaijayanthi emphasized the need of mathematics concepts to an engineering graduate. She said the mathematics concepts should be effectively inculcated in the students in their early stage of learning, in parallel to which the communication skills also to be built up.

Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary provided a brief overview of the Sahyadri institute through his presentation and clearly stated the vision and mission of the institute including its long term and short term goals. Ms. Vaijayanthi Srinivasaraghavan, holds the Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Electronics from the University of Madras and she is the First Rank holder at the University level. She has also completed her Certificate course in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Materials from the University of San Francisco and further studied Business Administration and Management from the Cornell University.

Dr. Subramani Ramakrishnan, a University Rank holder in Engineering from University of Madras, Gold Medalist from IIM Bangalore in his PG Program in Software Enterprise Management and PhD in Management. He has 20+ years of IT industry experience in software development, project management, strategy development, quality, operations, talent acquisition and resource management.

Mr. B. R. Somayaji, Managing Director, The CITADEL Hotel visits Sahyadri

Mr. B. R. Somayaji, Managing Director, The CITADEL Hotel, A Unit of M/s. Somayaji Hotels Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore visited the campus and interacted with the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary. Mr. Somayaji was impressed with the campus infrastructure and also expressed his desire to visit us again. He appreciated the management for creating a positive learning environment to the students. He has assured us of his complete support for the growth of the institute. Mr. Somayaji is one of the well known entrepreneurs and has established several business organizations at Bangalore.

MCA students from NMAMIT, Nitte visit Sahyadri

Final Year MCA students from NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte visited our campus and interacted with Mr. Raghupathi Siddoji and the entire team of Aptra Technologies Pvt. Ltd. The interaction mainly focused at the latest technologies trending in the market, teaching & learning methodologies, and various internship programs so as to boost ones career in the IT sector. The students were impressed by the campus infrastructure and the various facilities that are offered for startup companies at the campus.

Rashtriya Madhyamik Shikshan Abhiyan (RMSA)

Rashtriya Madhyamik Shikshan Abhiyan (RMSA) was organized at our campus for the High School students participating from thirty five schools of Dakshin Kannada region. The event witnessed participation of seventy four students accompanied by twenty teachers. Dr. C. K. Manjunath, Professor of Humanities & Administrator delivered the welcome speech. Mr. Lokesh C, Deputy Director & Project coordinator of RMSA and In charge of Block Education Office, Bantwal, Mr. Prakash, Education Coordinator of B.E.O Bantwal, Mr. Prasanna Kumar, Technical Assistant of RMSA Dakshin Kannada, and Mr. Prakash, S.D.A of RMSA Dakshin Kannada graced the occasion.

Session commenced, with briefing about the purpose of hosting the event by Mr. Lokesh C, followed by an inspiring talk by the Principal Dr. U M Bhushi. Johnson Tellis (Director, Sahyadri Edu DREAMERS R&D Pvt. Ltd.), narrated the life stories of successful people and stressed on the point that in order to achieve something in life, one has to dream first and then believe in themselves to achieve it. Team DREAMERS comprising of Johnson Tellis, Nishanth, Sachin, John, Achala and Gautham guided students through the entire process of pursuing higher education. The students also visited E- cell, Hands on Experience Lab, Aero modeling club and SAE Club. The main purpose of this visit was to get an idea regarding the various opportunities available and how self learning and a desire to reach a goal can eventually make one successful.

The session concluded with an inspiring story about the life style of an eagle. The take away from this story is to always aim high and choose to live even though you have to undergo a painful process. Students and teachers were mesmerized by the exposure they got from this visit and were happy to have been given this opportunity. Finally an Air show was arranged by Team challengers to motivate the students.

Rashtriya Madhyamik Shikshan Abhiyan is a unique educational programme which has been designed in such a way to respond effectively to the emerging demands of our society and rapid developments that are taking place due to liberalization Privatization and Globalization. Rashtriya Madhyamik Shikshan Abhiyan is a project aimed at bringing all the school age children (14-16 years) of the country within the fold of education by the stipulated time with the active participation of community ensuring the much-needed social justice.

Faculty Member invited to conduct workshop at Amity University by the IIT Roorkee Professor

Dr. Millie Pant, Professor, Department of Applied Science & Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) invited Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering to conduct Workshop on Developing Computer Vision Applications using Raspberry Pi 3 as a part of International Conference on Soft Computing: Theories & Applications (SoCTA 2016) at Amity University, Jaipur.

SoCTA 2016 was attended by Dr. Ajit Abraham, Director, Machine Intelligence Research Lab, USA, Dr. J.E.Lugo, University of Montreal, Canada, Dr. Aninda Base, Springer Publications Head, Dr. P.C.Jha, Professor, Delhi University. Dr. B. K. Panigrahi, IIT Delhi and several international researchers and experts from the area of Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Soft Computing.

Faculty member attends International Conference

Prof. S. A. Mariadoss, Adjunct faculty , Department of Mathematics attended a three-day International Conference on Mathematics and Computer Science, organized by Nirmala College for Women , Coimbatore , Tamil Nadu in collaboration with International Multidisciplinary Research Foundation(IMRF) and presented a paper titled ‘ Some Classes of Diophantine Edge Graceful Graph’. He was also the Chairperson for technical session during the conference.

Faculty member attends International Conference

Mrs. Aysha Shabana, Assistant Professor from the Department of Mathematics attended a two-day International Conference on ‘Mathematical Modelling [ICMM-2016] and presented a technical paper titled “Estimation of Stiffness Derivative of an Oscillating Cone in Hypersonic flow ”. The conference was organized by the Department of Mathematics, Don Bosco Institute of Technology, Bangalore.

Mr. Naveen Pilar invited to judge “Sangama 2016” - A Cultural Competition

Mr. Naveen Pilar, Co-ordinator, Department of Art & Culture was invited to judge the Taluk Level Cultural Competition of Udupi District – Yuva Janothsava “Sangama 2016” held in Kundapur.

Obituary

Sahyadri family deeply mourns the sad demise of Ms. Sathvashree, final year B.E – Computer Science & Engineering student. We pray that God Almighty give courage to the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude.
