MBA Students & Staff attend Vijay Diwas Commemoration Ceremony Students & Staff attended Vijay Diwas Commemoration Ceremony at the War Memorial located at Kadri Hills, Mangaluru on 16th December, 2017. Vijay Diwas marks the military victory of Operation Vijay of Indian Armed forces over Pakistan in 1971 during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, in alliance with Bangladesh Mukti Bahini. The ceremony was organized by D.K. Ex-Servicemen’s Association, Mangaluru, Lions Club International, District 317 D, Nitte Education Trust and Shasthavu Shri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple Trust. The ceremony was graced by the presence of military veterans like Brigadier I.N.Rai, Col. Sharath Bhandary and Col. Vikram Dutta who were felicitated at the event. The key officers of the District Administration namely Deputy Commissioner of DK district Mr. Sasikanth Senthil S, CEO of Zilla Panchayat Dr. M.R.Ravi and Officers of the District Police Force namely Mr. T.R. Suresh, Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru, Superintendent of Police Mr. C.H. Sudhir Kumar Reddy and various dignitaries of Lions and Rotary Club of Mangaluru were present during the programme. MBA students accompanied by the teaching faculty of the department Prof. Girish M, Prof. Ramesh K G, Prof. Padmanabha B and Academic Administrative Officer Staff Ms. Shreelatha U.M and student welfare officer Ms. Rashmitha observed and saluted the indomitable spirit, sacrifice and unfathomable valour of the martyrs of 1971 war.

MBAs visit Friends Plywood & Bharati Shipyard for industry exposure Students of first year MBA visited Friends Plywood and Bharati Shipyard in order to gain exposure to the operations in industry. Students viewed the entire manufacturing process & marketing of the plywoods by Mr. Pawanjaya, Managing Director. The students went through various production lines and processing of the wood and were given information on the imports of wood from various countries. Bharati Shipyard provided students with the understanding of how the ship building is done and where these ships are used. The Manager of the firm explained the various processes involved and also explained the cost involved. Students were also provided insights into the various kinds of ships that existed.

Faculty interact with Chairman, AICTE Prof. Geetha S D & Prof. Anil Kumar N S, Department of Civil Engineering attended the State Level Workshop on Water Conservation in Agriculture organized by the Civil Engineering Department at M.I.T, Manipal. The workshop had 8 different interactive sessions by eminent resource persons for conservation of water in agriculture. Prof. T G Sitharam, Department of Civil Engineering, IISc & Chairman, AICTE South Western zone committee conducted interactive session on Submerged Dyke and Costal reservoir for water conservation. Dr. Shivakumar. A R, Principal Scientific Officer, KSCST also discussed about effectiveness of Rain Water Harvesting in domestic and agricultural water conservation.

College of Engineering, Davangere.

MBAs visit Dairy Day Ice cream manufacturing unit at Kanakapura Road, Bengaluru  Over 39 first year MBA students along with Prof. Sushma V visited the manufacturing unit of Dairy Day Ice cream, one of the leading brands in South India. Students had a chance to view the entire manufacturing process step by step including the procedure of doing Quality Check of the ice creams manufactured. They were also taken to the laboratory and demonstrated on how the contents of ice cream are measured and quoted on the packaging label. Students had an opportunity to visit the Cold Storage room with temperature as low as -25 degrees Celsius. After witnessing the manufacturing process, students shared their observations & findings with the HR head and clarified their doubts in terms of operations. Students were also apprised of the CSR initiatives of the firm - Every year Dairy Day donates 5000 Notebooks to children in Govt. Schools. They also offer scholarships to needy yet deserving students to assist them in fulfilling their academic aspirations. In addition to this, they have planted 400 saplings in the vicinity of their manufacturing unit as a contribution to the environment.

MBAs visit ITC Biscuit Factory at Whitefield, Bengaluru Students from 1st year MBA along with Prof. Ramesh KG visited the ITC Biscuit factory at Whitefield, Bengaluru. Students were addressed by Mr. Prakash, Chief Security Officer & Facility Manager about safety and hygiene factors to be followed at workplace. Mr. Vivek & Mr. Anirban, Plant Managers explained the entire production process including packing & dispatching. Mr. Abhishek, Chemical Engineer from IIT Kharagpur, who is currently the Production Manager explained as to why ITC ventured into diversified business strategy, the customer segment they primarily target, the market share they hold in this segment & also about the quality policy what ITC follows to ensure food safety.

Dr. Steven L Fernandes shortlisted for National Institutes of Health (NIH) Project, USA

Dr. Steven L Fernandes, Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering has been shortlisted for National Institutes of Health (NIH) project. If selected, he would get an opportunity to work in US Government Lab for 1 year as a Post Doctoral Researcher. The area of work is Medical Image Processing.

It is encouraging to know that - as a token of gratitude, he has transferred Rs. 25,000/- to Sahyadri Corpus Fund towards Sahyadri Conclave which would be held during 6th January to 10th January 2018 in Sahyadri Campus.

MBA Faculty presents paper in the International Conference at SDMIMD, Mysuru

MBA Faculty presents paper in the International Conference at SDMIMD, Mysuru Dr. Rashmi Kodikal, Professor, Department of Business Administration presented a research paper titled “Transactional analysis of bank employees: An empirical analysis” in the 6th International Conference on Managing Human Resources at the Workplace at SDMIMD campus, Mysuru.

The research study hypothesised that there was no significance difference between Ego states of different types of Bank employees with regard to gender, age, qualification, categories & work experience. Based on that, the survey was carried out in Coastal Karnataka with a sample size of 754 bank employees & furnished analysis quantitatively using appropriate statistical tools and revealed significance relationship between the Ego States of Bank employees with regards to demographic variable & Productivity. During the paper presentation a model was proposed to increase the productivity of the Bankers.

Faculty attend Induction Training programme at IIT, Bombay Students from first year MBA along with Prof. Girish M visited Madura Garments unit at Jakkur layout, Bangaluru. Mr. Abhilash, unit head, along with HR team explained the production process of the shirts and also the quality maintenance during production. The unit consisted of mainly women employees with few of them also being physically challenged. They had established facilities to take care of kids of employees who were working in the factory. Faculty attend Induction Training programme at IIT, Bombay Prof. Prajwal M & Prof. Sanjith S Anchan, Department of Civil Engineering are participating in an Induction Training Programme at IIT, Bombay under the aegis of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT). It is a Twenty-Day (28th November to 20th December 2017) residential programme to train 120 new teachers from Universities/ Colleges/ Institutes across India on various aspects of teaching and learning.
