Caliper approved for supplying product assemblies to Defence

Mr. P. K. Arora, Jt GM & Mr. Durgalu, QC Manager, from Heavy Vehicles Factory, Avadi, Chennai (a Defence Establishment manufacturing armoured vehicles) audited Caliper to approve them for manufacturing product assemblies. After a detailed auditing, HVF has now approved Caliper for manufacturing product assemblies. Formal certificate will be issued soon. This is yet another step forward in Caliper’s journey to be a part of India’s elite manufacturing companies. They also interacted with Mr. Balakrishna S S, Vice-Principal, visited RDL, DT Labs, Aptra & were taken around the college campus.

Sahyadrians Recruited by Caliber Technologies

Meghana from the Department of Information Science & Engineering and Krithesh Bhandary from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering have been selected by Caliber Technologies for the position of Trainee Software Engineer in the recently held Campus Recruitment drive at Sahyadri for the 2019 outgoing batch.

First Year MBAs visit Manipal Technologies, Manipal

A total of 60 students accompanied by faculty members – Prof. Girish Madla, Prof. Padmanabha B and Prof. Akshatha P visited Manipal Technologies Ltd, Manipal to develop a productive interface between industry and academia.

Mr. Raghuram, Head-HR of the Manipal Technologies guided the students and explained in detail the printing process. Major clients of MTL are Oxford, Indiannica, South India Bank, Andhra Bank etc. MTL employs more than 1500 labourers and has departments like pre-press, press, post-press and dispatch departments. An interactive question & answer session was held and all queries of the students were answered by the Head-HR.

Manipal Technologies Ltd, provides end to end secure print service such as security printing, variable data printing, digital printing, book printing, pre-media services, banking cards, smart cards, card management services, examination solutions etc. in a specialised offering solutions to banking, publishing, government, telecom, retail, pharma, FMCG etc. MTL is now serving customers across the globe and is having units in all metro cities in India, Kenya, Nigeria and Germany.

Civil Engineering Students & Team TRIGON carry out project at Government High School, Angaragundi Civil Engineering Students & Team TRIGON carry out project at Government High School, Angaragundi Civil Engineering students join hands with team "TRIGON" to execute an innovative project worth Rs. 30,000 at Government High School, Angaragundi. The project was funded by the NGO - Inchara Foundation. Project involved the construction of toilets which are economical, eco-friendly and easily repairable. It also involved the conversion of normal playground into a fun filled zone using scrap materials which are economical and recyclable. The team consisted of Alester from Mechanical Engineering; Shweta L.G, Jewin Maria DCunha and Vinson Daniel Almeida from Civil Engineering. Director of Inchara Foundation - Mr. Pritam Rodrigues had approached Dr. Premanand Shenoy and Prof. Sunil Kumar Rai, Dept. of Civil Engineering to seek help for this project. The project was assigned to students for execution and has now been successfully completed. Sahyadri is proud of the students’ achievement.

MBAs attend the “Outbound Experiential Business Management Training” at Ankola

Outbound Experiential Business Management Training Outbound Experiential Business Management Training A total of 147 students from first year MBA accompanied by 10 faculty members participated in the “Outbound Experiential Business Management Training Module” at ‘Nature Bound Sahyadri Camp’ in Ankola. The course was organized for value forming experiences through adventure and challenge, Compassion and Service, Learning through experience and Social & Environmental responsibility.

The course facilitated experiences through activities and games to get a practical insight to individual behaviour and group dynamics. The purpose was to reflect upon desired responses and experiment them in real time situations and further reflect on what to expect from future experiences. The students were divided into nine teams and each team was allotted with a trainer. As soon as the students entered into the camp they had to deposit all the gadgets and hence had to stay away from digital life for three days. The students also had to stay in tents.

At 6am every day, students had to be ready for jogging and warm-up only after which activities for the day began. The sessions would normally conclude only at around 12:30 mid-night.

Outbound Experiential Business Management Training The whole day event included activities related to communication, adventure and navigation in forest using navigation compass. It also included briefing sessions on personality development, smart thinking, development and application of strategies.

The students had to challenge themselves when they were tested with physical endurance and also logical thinking. Students returned with a positive feedback and also expressed their confidence to stay away from the digital gadgets for more hours. The course has definitely brought in changes in personal and professional behavioural pattern of students and helped in reinforcing the theories and principles studied in the classroom.

First Year MBAs visit Adani Power Plant and RMC Ready mix Dept. of Business Administration organized an industrial visit for a total of 60 first year MBA students to Adani Power Limited and RMC Readymix Pvt.Ltd. In Adani Power Plant, the students witnessed the enormous facility spread across 600 Acres. Adani Power Limited is the power business subsidiary of Indian conglomerate Adani Group with head office at Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Mr. Vasanth, the HR Manager briefed the students on the operation of the plant. He also addressed the students about the operations at the HR Department answering all queries that students had relating to HR domain.

At RMC Readymix Pvt.Ltd., Baikampady, the HR-Head briefed the students about the various production methods and specifications of the products. He also took them around the production unit where the students witnessed production of RMC Ready mix. Students had good take away from both the companies.

Civil Engineering Faculty attends Five-Day GIAN course at NIT Warangal Prof. Sanjith S Anchan, Dept. of Civil Engineering attended a Five-Day GIAN Short term course on “Modelling and Control of Wastewater Treatment Plants” organized by Chemical Engineering Department, NIT Warangal, Telangana. Prof. Ingmar Nopensl, Associate Professor at Ghent University leading the BIOMATH research group was the resource person of the programme. The courses exposed the participants to Biokinetics modelling, Activated sludge models, Benchmark simulation models for WWTPs, Control of WWTPs for improved effluent quality and energy efficiency, Computational Fluid Dynamics for Wastewater treatment, improved mixing modelling with compartmental models and Population balance modelling applied to WWTP.

Sri. B.H.V. Prasad, Group General Manager, (HR & CSR) MRPL, Mangaluru launched the seminars in the presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru; Swami Bodhamayanandaji, Director of Vivekananda Institute of Human Excellence, Hyderabad; the Chief Guest Sri Vishal Hegde, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte University; Special Invitee Capt. Ganesh Karnik, Former MLC and the Resource Person Dr. Vivek Modi, Corporate Trainer, Hyderabad.

In the first session, Swami Bodhamayanandaji spoke on Human Excellence. He stressed on the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and encouraged students to read his experience. He stimulated the students by saying that they are spirit free Lions and should shake off the delusions. He urged students to have faith in themselves, have the attitude of giving generously and helping the needy on the streets. He said it is vital to have a clean mind-set.

The second session was by Dr. Vivek Modi who spoke on survival by being practical with a pure mindset. He spoke on challenges in concentration by sharing stories of how Vivekananda exhibited great concentration. When you have right focus your span of attention increases. The students were accompanied by all the first year HoDs and teaching faculty members; Ms. Shreelatha U A, Academic Administrative Officer and Mr Shreyas Jain, Student Welfare Officer from the Academics Department.

International Admission Representative for Bard College New York, visited Sahyadri Mr. Pranjal Ghate, International Admission Representative for Bard College New York, visited Sahyadri and addressed the MBA students. In his address he informed the students about the opportunities available in foreign university to do higher studies, preparation needed and how to apply for scholarship which eventually reduces the cost of studying abroad. He also talked about the teaching methodology followed in American Universities. He has acquired his Bachelors in Arts from Bard College, New York, majoring in Economics.

It was submitted on Apr 03, 2018 and in final form on Oct 22, 2018.

Faculty of Mechanical Engineering along with the CEO of Caliper visited SKF Group of Industries Dr. Ravindra Babu G; Prof. Abhishek K and Prof. Rakshith H S from the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering along with Mr. Sunder, CEO of Caliper visited SKF Group of industries. SKF groups are the leading manufacturers of boilers and dryers. SKF Elixer India private Limited is another sister concern company which manufactures the world class drinking water purifiers and coolers. The company has more than 350 employees having worldwide customers.

During the discussion with the Chairman and MD of SKF Groups - Mr. G Ramakrishna Achar has expressed his interest to provide opportunities for collaboration, research and also internship for our students.
