Sahyadrians secure 2nd Runners-Up in IESA – Makeathon 2018 held in
New Delhi

StartUp India Karnataka Yatra Boot Camp at Sahyadri StartUp India Karnataka Yatra Boot Camp at Sahyadri “IESA Makeathon" an India Electronics & Semiconductor Association (IESA) initiative to enable the maker community in India drive technology innovation, is the largest designing event in South Asia. A total of 20 teams were selected from 36-hour overnight design challenge that spanned across 5 cities. Mr. Nithin T from the fifth semester Electronics & Communications Engineering and Mr. Pradeep Kumar from the Dept of Electronics & Communications Engineering jointly with RDL participated at the Bengaluru selection round and won the Golden Ticket for the Finale.

At the finale that was held in New Delhi, this team was judged as the 2nd Runners-up. The prize included plaque, incubation opportunities, and other benefits. This event provided the opportunity to network with industry leaders and innovators that would enable Sahyadri to benchmark and rise to Global standards.

Students of First Year Engineering and Management (MBA) took part in the procession wearing costumes depicting the traditional dress of various states. The procession started from Nehru Maidan till Karavali Utsava Ground. The students participated in great zeal and enthusiasm. Karavali Utsava’s theme, this year focused on Mangaluru's heritage, culture and history. The Ten-Day fiesta aims to make Mangalureans nostalgic with memories of the past and also inform important milestones to the younger generation.

Sahyadrians pay homage to the heroes on the occasion of Vijay Diwas The Engineering and Management Students of Sahyadri paid their respects during the commemoration of Vijay Diwas at the War Memorial at Kadri Hills to our brave heart soldier who laid down their life for the honour of our Nation during the 1971 Indo–Pak War. Vijay Diwas was observed at the War Memorial at Kadri Hills here on December 16, Sunday to commemorate India’s win against Pakistan in the 1971 war. The programme was held under the aegis of the DK District Ex-servicemen’s Association, Lions Club International, Rotary International, Nitte Education Trust and Shasthavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple Trust. The students were accompanied by Ms. Shreelatha U A, Academic Administrative Officer, Prof. Ramesh K G, Dean-Strategic Planning and Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor.

Sahyadari NSS Unit organizes awareness programme on Laws related to WomenSahyadari NSS Unit organizes awareness programme on Laws related to Women Sahyadri NSS Unit in association with National Commission for Women, New Delhi and Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi organized a Two-Day Awareness Programme for the First Year Engineering students on laws related to Women. Ms. Marlin Martis, Director of Development Education Society (DEEDS), Kadri, Mangaluru was the resource person for the session. She spoke about the Fundamental Rights and major Laws relating to women, POSCO Act, Anti-Harassment Laws and Workplace women rights and laws. A total of 125 students will now participate in a Nation-wide competition on women laws which will be held in Sahyadri on Saturday 22nd Dec’18.

Dr. Molly Chaudhuri invited as a Panel member at National Conference Dr. Molly Chaudhuri invited as a Panel member at National Conference Dr. Molly Chaudhuri was the Panel member at the Two-Day National Conference on the theme “Consolidating Social Enterprises through Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives: Issues and Challenges” at the A J Institute of Management, Mangaluru. The session was chaired by Mr. Allen Pereira, former Managing Director of Bank of Maharashtra. The other panel members included Mr. Praveen Pinto, Chief Manager (Production Planning), MRPL; Mr. Ronald Mascarenhas, Head-HR & Admin, Syngene International Ltd and Mr. P P Shetty, Advisor and Consultant, Syngene International Ltd, Mangaluru.

The panellists presented the various CSR initiatives taken up in their respective organizations. Delegates from across the country participated in the two day deliberations. Dr. Molly Chaudhuri focused on CSR in the Education sector and highlighted the special projects some of the leading corporate offices have undertaken as CSR initiatives.


Mentoring students on Social Innovation Projects, National & International Events

Dreamers and Challengers are two teams of young Engineering graduates and students with a motto to translate the theoretical perception of engineering into real-world applications. A few members from various disciplines grouped together with sole intention to learn Engineering concepts. Gradually, more people were added and formed a team. This team grew by participating in several national level competitions conducted by IITs, NITs and other elite institutions of our Nation.

Currently, these groups are mentoring First-year students of Sahyadri to participate in National and International level Technical events.

A Special initiative of Sahyadri - “Social Innovation Project” mentored by First year faculty members from all Branches and also by Dreamers has been successful in providing platform to find real problems in society & find Engineering Solution to them. Challengers play a key role in preparing students for International events.

As an outcome of Social Innovation Project, a new team was formed called TRIGON on March 31st 2017. Trigon means Triangle in Greek. This team has been formed with the main intention to Make a Change in the society & to engineer people’s life. Hence, their tagline is – “If you want a change, make a change” and the team has successfully executed many Social Projects.

Mr. Deshik Bharadwaj from the Department of Information Science & Engineering from 2018 passed out batch was recruited by AURIGO Software Technologies Inc. for the position of 'Quality Engineer' with a package of Rs. 5.5 Lakhs per annum in the recently held Off-Campus Drive in Bengaluru.

Aurigo is a global software company that provides cloud based capital program and project portfolio management software solutions for large capital infrastructure owners in the public and private sector industries.

MBA students visit Deputy Commissioner’s office as a part of Real-Time Off–Text Book Learning To give a practical real-time experience of the operations at the government and civil department, a total of 7 MBA students namely Mithun, Usha , Ashvija, Ashray Nayak, Gautham, Madhuri and Kavya, visited the District Deputy Commissioners Office to observe and interact with the officials and learn the operations of various Government departments and Civil bodies. The visit was organized with an objective to receive firsthand information about the critical departments that the students may need help in their day to day affair. As this essential information is rarely available in textbook, these visits give the students an opportunity to learn the transaction of the real world. The student will be visiting various government offices such as Taluk Office, City Corporation, Panchayat Office etc., once every week. These visits are planned and supervised by the Mentor of these students - Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor and Faculty of Humanities.
