Sahyadri hosts the two-day Cognizant State Level Placement Programme

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management was host to the two-day Cognizant State Level Placement Programme (SLPP). 220 students from eleven pool colleges of the district took part in the drive.

Mr. Abhinav M. Joshi, HR - Talent Acquisition, and team of Cognizant Technology Solutions conducted the drive. From among the thirty shortlisted candidates of the online test, the Technical and the HR round of interviews, sixteen were finally selected by the company for the position of Programme Analyst Trainee.

Semester III M. Tech Results: Sahyadri 100%

The M.Tech students of the College have set a milestone in the III semester results and made the College proud. The 100% results have placed Sahyadri College on top of the list at the VTU level. Of the twenty-three M.Tech students of Computer Aided Design of Structures (CCS-CV), twenty obtained a first class with distinction and three students obtained a first class, bringing the overall percentage score to 100%. Likewise, of the twenty-four M.Tech students of Computer Science & Engineering (SCS-CS), eighteen students obtained a first class with distinction and six students a first class, bringing the overall percentage score to 100%. Of the sixteen M.Tech students of Machine Design (MMD-ME), fourteen obtained a first class with distinction and two a first class, bringing the overall percentage score to 100%.

Infosys Campus Connect Road Show

Ms. Kavya Gopi, Program Manager E&R, Infosys Ltd., interacted with the students of Semester VIII, Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Information Science & Engineering as well as with the students who are placed in Infosys during this academic year. She conducted an `Infosys Campus Connect Road Show.’ She discussed the importance of campus connect, and how helpful it could be for their placements. She gave an insight into the training phase for freshers in Infosys and discussed the formats used for documenting the projects. The overall objective of the session was to bring an awareness regarding the importance of campus connect.

Indo-US MIM Tec Pvt. Ltd. conducts campus recruitment drive

Indo-US MIM Tec Pvt. Ltd. conducted a campus recruitment drive for twenty-eight students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Manohara M., HR Executive of the company spoke about the opportunities available in Indo-US MIM. A preliminary written test was conducted. The results are awaited.

This paper was also published in the International Organization of Scientific Research journals.

Renuka Shenoy obtained the second position in the college with 73.67% while Thejaswini with 73.33% stands third. Sixteen students of the department have obtained a first class with distinction, while sixty-one students have obtained a first class and eleven students obtained a second class bringing the overall percentage score to 74.58%.

Ms. Navyashree P. Shetty and Ms. Kripashree, of the Department of Business Administration, have been selected as Tax Analyst by Ernst and Young (E & Y) at the recently concluded pool campus recruitment drive held at Alva's College, Moodabidri.

Workshop conducted on Financial Literacy, Computer Literacy

A workshop was conducted by the Banking Association of the Department of Business Administration on, "Financial Literacy Computer Literacy” for the students of Government Higher Primary School, Ammunje village, Bantwal taluk.

Forty-seven students and three faculty members of the Banking Association conducted the workshop for the students of standard VI and VII on various schemes run by the banks, various methods of banking transactions and the precautions to be taken while undertaking banking transactions. The students also guided them on the basics of computer operations. The Association conducted various activities for the students of the school and distributed prizes and study materials. The activity was organised with the help of our Trustee, Shri. Devadas Hegde, an alumnus of the school. The school administration applauded the efforts of the teams’ overwhelming gesture towards the children who are deprived of some of the basic amenities. The Headmaster thanked the entire Team Sahyadri for bringing smiles on the faces of the young school children. It was a memorable experience for the final year banking students which they would cherish all their lives.

CSR initiative by MARKUS the MBA Marketing Club

As part of Corporate Social Responsibility, MARKUS; the Marketing Club of the Department of Business Administration with an initiative called, ‘Hand & Heart’, identified an orphanage called Chinnara Thangudhama within Mangalore city which houses around fifty talented children, aged 6 to 10 years and has earned its reputation of a reliable and enthusiastic organization. With the Club motto being `Empowering Hands, Touching Hearts’, the members of Hand & Heart were determined to associate with the administration of Chinnara Tangudhama and help to better the lives of children by extending generous donations and participation in this great social cause to get closer to their dream.

These children have expressed a deep interest in the arts and have participated in various regional contests. Chinnara Thangudhama not only provides shelter to unfortunate children, but also works for their education and finds foster parents too. The administration of the orphanage has decided to initiate an education program aimed at teaching art to children and helping them develop their artistic skills.

The MARKUS team visited the orphanage and interacted with the children and held a drawing competition for them. They conducted fun games and oral communication skills. Later, they spread smiles and touched the hearts of the children by donating a book shelf, a water purifier and books and stationery for use of the children.

Corporate Social Responsibility initiative

As part of a CSR initiative, the Finance Association of the Department of Business Administration conducted a workshop on Financial Literacy for the students of Government Higher Primary School, Nari Mugeru, Puttur. Students conducted the workshop in teams for different classes of the school. It was heartening to see excellent interaction among the students with well designed activities. Students of the Finance Association also donated sports equipment to the students.

MBA alumni address first year students

Mr. Ashrith Nonda (HR - Social Media Recruiter, HCL Technologies, Bangalore), and Mr. Pratheek (HR Recruiter, Alphase, Mangalore), Alumni of the Department of Business Administration visited the college and addressed the first year students of the department. Both had immense HR knowledge to share with the students. The two alumni were actively involved in CSR activities as former students of the college. Mr. Ashrith Nonda emphasized that the students should complete their projects with utmost honesty as the same will be discussed during the interviews for their jobs. He stimulated the students to choose HR as their specialization as the role is now in demand due to the decentralisation of the recruitment activity in MNC's. He even stressed on the fact that Sahyadri has the best team of faculty and that the students should make optimum utilization of their expertise. Their experiences in Sahyadri have made them successful in their career and hence, students should take all seminars, presentations, and assignments assigned by the faculties very seriously.

GATE-2014 all-India Examination conducted in Sahyadri

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management in association with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore (IISc) conducted the First Phase of computer based Test for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE-2014). A total of 400 candidates from all over the country sat for the exam for various streams like Civil, Aeronautical, Chemical, Architecture, Biotechnology, Mining, Agricultural, Metallurgical, Pharmaceutical Engineering etc.

GATE is an all-India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science. The GATE score of a candidate reflects the relative performance level of a candidate. The score is used for admissions to various post-graduate programs (e.g. Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, and Doctor of Philosophy) in Indian higher education institutes, with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other government agencies. Recently, GATE scores are also being used by several Indian public sector undertakings (i.e., government-owned companies) for recruiting graduate engineers in entry-level positions. It is one of the most competitive examinations in India. It is a great honour for Sahyadri to conduct an exam of this kind.

Chairman addresses parents of under-performers of Semester I

The parents meet of the under-performers of Semester I was held in the campus. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, addressed the gathering and asked the parents to build a harmonious relationship with their wards. He also asked the students to develop an attitude of, “I Can Do It.”

Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, showed the analysis of the students’ performance and requested the parents as well as students to take a firm stand on their aspiration of becoming an engineer. The meeting provided an open platform to parents and students to discuss the reasons for underperformance and sort out the possible solutions.

Robosoft pool campus recruitment drive

Thirty-five M.Tech, Computer Science & Engineering, and Information Science & Engineering students of the college attended the pool campus recruitment drive conducted by Robosoft at Srinivas Institute of Technology, Valachil, Mangalore. Six students have been shortlisted in the written test conducted by the Company.

A talk on "Competency Mapping" was conducted by Mr. Vidyaranya Kollipal, Site HR Lead, Mphasis, An HP Company, Mangalore. Mr. Vidyaranya addressed MBA HR specialisation students.

The students have been enlightened on the process of Competency Mapping model. With enormous hands on experience on designing a competency model for the company, Mr. Vidyaranya Kollipal was able to simplify the concept and relate it with industry examples very well. HR students would be working on "Competency Mapping" day in and day out in their professional career and such practical exposure to this trending concept was of prime importance. Students had an enriching experience with lot of queries being answered.

MBA students visit Diya Systems

Students of MBA, HR specialisation, accompanied by Ms. Sushma V. and Mr. Karthik Kudroli, Assistant Professors, Department of Buisness Administration, visited Diya Systems, (Glow Touch IT Services), Mangalore. The team was taken on a site tour by Mr. Srinivas Bhat, Head - HR. He addressed the students on, “The Competencies Expected by Corporates from MBA's.” He also gave a brief introduction to the Diya business. Diya Systems focuses mainly on IT & Applications support and hence has requirement for BE graduates, he added. The HR head has expressed his willingness to make contact with the placement team of Sahyadri for B.E. placements.

Research Article published in International Journal

A research article titled, “Impact of Technology on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education”, written by Dr. Ananthapadhmanabha Achar, Director, Department of Business Administration, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and Dr. Usha Prabha Nayak, CEO, Expert Group of Institutions, has been published in the Internationally Indexed Journal - ITIHAS; The Journal of Indian Management (with ISSN No: 2249 - 7803) in Issue-4 and Volume-3. This journal has been listed in EBSOCO Publishing, Cabell publishing INC USA and Ulrich periodicals Directory USA.


Faculty members’ paper in International Journal

A research paper titled, “A Brief History of the Indian Life Insurance Industry”, written by Dr. K. Vidyavathi, Assistant Professor S.G., Department of Business Management, is published in Vol.4 Issue 2, Feb. 2014 issue of Zenith International Journal of Business Economics And Management Research (ZIJBEMR).

Faculty member invited as resource person

Mr. Girish M., Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration was invited as the resource person for “Utkarsh-2014”, a National Level Social Workers Meet organized by the Department of Social Work, Meredian College, Ullal, Mangalore.
