On the eve of shivaratri, the day devoted to the lord of service, simplicity and love lord Shiva, a team of six faculty members and thirty students from NSS club of the institution visited an old age home in Meremajal village as a part of CSR efforts termed as “To give is to gain.” It houses twenty-one old people who are abandoned by their children or family. The students entertained the inmates with many old songs and also danced with them. An inmate also sang and performed yakshagana songs to great cheer from the students. Even at the age of 82 his enthusiasm was awe inspiring and infectious. The inmates were gifted new clothes and served with scrumptious food prepared by the students. Grocery supplies, medical kit, and fruits were distributed. Quoting the words of a student, “It is a day none of us can forget in our lives and it has taught us the value of service. The joy that we found when we saw the smile on the face of those old souls was priceless and beyond description.” The inmates thanked the Sahyadri team for a wonderful day and asked the team to visit again. All the students were impressed by a board put at the entrance which read, “Entrance only to people who respect their parents.” It’s only a beginning… we seek your support to do more of what little we can give back to the society.
