Unveiling ceremony of BAJA ATV “THE ARIONS”

The Unveiling ceremony of BAJA ATV “THE ARIONS” was held in Sahyadri Campus. The most awaited vehicle built by Sahyadrians was unveiled by Mr. V. R. V Sriprasad, Managing Director, Volvo Buses India Pvt. Ltd, Bengaluru.

Mr. Sriprasad appreciated the efforts of THE ARIONS, and stressed that the result is important but focus is more important, and learning is the most important. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary expressed his gratitude to the students for all their efforts inspite of all the hardships and discomfort. He also stressed that irrespective of what happens in the competition he is already happy with the performance of the team.

Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, proposed the vote of thanks and Prof. S S Balakrishna, Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering was also present on the occasion.

"THE ARIONS" Team has spent an amount of Rupees 8.5 lakhs to make this dream car possible.

The Principal, Staff and the Management of Sahyadri congratulated the entire BAJA team for their successful completion of building this off road vehicle for the National level BAJA competition organized by Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), India Chapter at Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Leadership Summit 2015

A two days leadership summit on “Managing Business during Uncertain Times - Unique Challenges and Smart Solutions” was organised by the Department of Business Administration in Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management.

The summit was inaugurated by Mr. Ananth Ravi, Senior Vice President of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. In his inaugural address he said that the business environment was stable till 1990. Due to liberalization, rapid technological innovation, change in customer preference, uncertainty has become the order of the day. The gap between growth and recession is very narrow and it throws a lot of challenges in managing business.

Mr. M.C. Dinesh, Vice President, FKCCI, in his key note address pointed out that there is a mismatch between academia and industry and the skill gap existing needs to be narrowed down to cater to the needs of the 21st century knowledge economy. Mr. Dinesh said that by 2020-25 India can become a three trillion dollar economy if we size up, scale up & speed up as a country with the largest skilled force.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary Chairman of Bhandary Foundation in his Presidential remarks stressed that a leader must have confidence, commitment, dedication, accountability, responsibility to overcome the uncertainties in business.
Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management welcomed the gathering and Dr. A.P. Achar, Director, Department of Business Administration gave an overview about the Summit.

The 1st session was on Managing business during uncertainty: unique challenges, smart solutions. The resource persons for the session were Mr. Srinivas H.N. General manager, Taj group Mumbai and Mr.Ramkumar seshu, Chairman, Skill, Education and HR committee, FKCCI. The session was chaired by Mr. Ananth Ravi Senior, Vice President of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd.

The afternoon session was on the topic Contextual leadership styles for sustaining and growth in volatile environment. The resource persons for the session were Mr. Augustus Azariya, Associate Director-HR, IBM, India, Dr. Jebin Manohar Director, HR and Talent Mangement Aptean Bengaluru and M. Jeba Kumar, Director HR& Legal Services/ Past Chairman NIPM

The first day of the summit ended with a cultural extravaganza with a number of performances from the students followed by a network dinner.

The second day of the leadership summit started with a session on Knowledge management and Business analytics. The session was chaired by Dr. Bagali, Professor, Jain University and the resource person for the session was Mr.N.M.Sharma, Vice president-Analytics, TCS, Bangalore.

Dr. Bagali, Professor, Jain University laid the theme of the session and background of the topic.

Mr .N.M. Sharma emphasized that data is fundamental for analytics. He spoke on the marketing analytics, Finance analytics and the HR analytics. He spoke on the virtual mirror which will be seen in the near future. He stressed on the heights of analytics and how the data is processed multi dimensionally.

The next session was on Imperatives of Talent management. The session was chaired by Mr. VRV Sriprasad, Managing Director, Volvo Buses, India and the resource person for the session was Mr. M. Jeba Kumar, Director HR and Legal services and past chairman of NIPM.

Mr.VRV Sriprasad stressed that in the future there will be a war for talents. Countries have not focused on developing the talents. He said that an average Indian is far ahead of all in terms of intellect. He said that the traditional Indian gurukul system nurtured talents but the present educational system is just blindly following and not focusing on developing talents.

Mr.Jeba Kumar stated that once a talent is not always a talent because we live in a changing world. Change is making so much of an impact that there needs to be learning at every step.

The second day leadership summit concluded with a valedictory address by Mr. VRV Sriprasad, Managing Director, Volvo Buses, India and a speech by Mr.Srinath Birur, Co Chairman Skill, Education and HR committee, FKCCI and Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal Shyadri Collegeof Engineering & Management. Dr. Manjunath Bhandary gave the presidential remarks.

Drishti 2015 ‘Fete-Foraine’

The Department of Business Administration organized Drishti 2015 ‘Fete-Foraine’, a management fest for undergraduates at Sahyadri Campus. Events like Quiz, Mad-Ad, Best Manager, Group Dance and Fashion show were organized in this mega event. Prof. Aruna P. Kamath, Principal of SDM College of Business Management, Mangalore inaugurated the function. In her inaugural address, she expressed her pleasure of being at Sahyadri. She conveyed that management fests are meant to groom the students before they get into the corporate. She also encouraged the students by saying that they must consider this fest as a platform to realize their competencies and enhance their ability to work in a team and not merely to compete and win. Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management presided over the function, he emphasized that more than winning let everyone of them obtain learning should be the objective of the participants of ‘Fete-Foraine’ 2015.

Dr. A P Achar, Director, Department of Business Administration welcomed the gathering and highlighted the milestones that Sahyadri has reached and wished many more would come in the future.

Anglo Eastern Campus Recruitment Drive

Mr. S.P.S. Oberoi of Anglo Eastern Ship Management Pvt. Ltd. addressed the final year Mechanical Engineering students on the opportunities available in the area of Marine management. He also conducted online tests as the first round of recruitment drive. The results are awaited.

Anglo-Eastern is into ship management, crew management, education and training of seafarers, new building consultancy, dry-docking, IT solutions and insurance services.

Pool Campus Recruitment drive by ICICI Securities

ICICI Securities Ltd. conducted pool campus recruitment drive for MBA students in the Campus. The drive commenced with a pre-placement talk by Mr. Prakash Salian, Regional Head – Centre Sales and Ms. Geethanjaly G, Regional Manager - HR. A total of 112 students from various colleges participated in the drive. 26 students have been shortlisted for the personal interview round. Final results are awaited.

Whiz Quiz in Action

Sahyadri Whiz Quiz an intercollegiate Quiz competition for under graduate students of Commerce and Business Management has commenced on the 9th of February 2015. In its first destination at St. Agnes College, Mangalore, 300 students of final year B. Com and BBM participated in Phase 1 with full enthusiasm and vigor. Prof. Sushma Kannan Nair, Prof. Gayathri Shetty and Prof. Karthik Kudroli from the Department of Business Administration along with two student volunteers spearheaded the initiative. The event began with a short formal program in the presence of Dr. Devi Prabha Alva, HOD Commerce Dept. and faculty coordinator Ms. Lidwin D Souza. Dr. Devi applauded Sahyadri for the novel and innovative idea. Students who have appeared for the MCQ (Elimination) round and phase 2 will be floored on the 19th of February 2015.

Aryaka Networks Recruitment Drive

Aryaka Networks conducted skype interview for final year engineering students. 300 students from the pool colleges participated in this recruitment drive. 15 students are shortlisted for the second round of selection process .

Sahyadrians won ‘BEST MECHANICAL DESIGN’ in KSHITIJ -15 at IIT KHARAGPUR

Students from Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management participated in the tech fest KSHITIJ -15 at IIT Kharagpur and bagged ‘BEST MECHANICAL DESIGN’ in the event ‘CASCADE’ among hundred teams. The task was to make a bot which could traverse between the two poles and shoot the terrorists at the various floors. Akshay B Karanth first year ECE, Ravali G first year ECE, Suraj Shettigar first year CSE and Rohit Choudhary second year ECE were the participants. Three flyers John Nikhil Poyyayial final year ECE, Jagath Biddapa second year ECE and Navajeeth Karkera second year mechanical was qualified for the zonal round of "Laws of Motion -Boeing National Aeromodelling Competition" and were among the top 30.

The team consisted of 13 students and was accompanied by Megha. N, Assistant Professor Department of ECE. The tech fest had several workshops, lectures, air shows, stunt shows, Envisage - Techno cultural fest. Events based on robotics, programming, electronic circuits designing, etc were conducted by the coordinators.
