Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management signs MoU with Mangalore University

The Karnataka Government Research Center of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mangalore University for Collaborative Research and Development, Education and Training for the benefit of students, researchers & faculty members with a vision to reach excellence in education and research.

The MoU was signed by Prof. P. S. Yadapadithaya, Registrar, Mangalore University, Prof. C. Ranganathaiah, Director Research, Sahyadri college of Engineering & Management, and Prof. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, in the august presence of Prof K. Byrappa, Hon. Vice-Chancellor, Mangalore University, Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman and Dr. D. L. Prabhakara, Director,Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. Collaborations under this MoU are focused on, but not limited to R&D work in projects relevant to composite materials, structural engineering (dynamics, design auditing and testing), material testing and visiting faculty or R&D assignments, M.S., M.Tech., Ph.D. programs, short-term training, and short-term courses. The MOU is intended to expedite R&D of new methods and technologies that can be implemented in support of Mangalore University and Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management to enhance technological capabilities, skilled human resources and economic growth. It is aimed at enhancing the quality of research and teaching at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and Mangalore University.

Prof. U.M Bhushi, Principal, welcomed the gathering and told that Engineering will grow only by the contribution of basic science research. Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, advised the faculty to make use of the MoU by exploiting the research facilities at Mangalore University. He also said that research achievements are the indicator of success in many well known foreign universities. Research Director Prof. C. Ranganathaiah explained the importance of MoU and told that the strength of any institute is measured by its strength of research. He has advised the staff members to take advantage of the MoU and make use of microtron and other facilities available at Mangalore University.

The Registrar of Mangalore University Prof. P. S. Yadapadithaya conveyed that, this MoU supports effective collaboration to enhance the brand equity of both the institutes. He said that it is a momentous occasion for both the institutes. Prof. K. L. Byrappa expressed that engineering and Basic Science research should go together. He also advised the faculty of both the institutes to come forward and try to explore the collaborative research work. He said that the MoU will help in applying for research grants. Dr. D.L Prabhakara delivered the presidential remarks and opined that this MoU will be active because of the constant support of research director Prof. C Ranganathaiah and Hon. Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. Byrappa.

Sahyadrians win in Vision Robotics

Sahyadri Students have won the first and third prizes at the Zonal level of Vision Robotics workshop and competition held on the 14th and the 15th of February 2015 conducted by Robosapeins Pvt. Ltd. Robosapiens are India's leading Research & Development in Robotics, Embedded Systems, Quadcopter etc. Sahyadri students are now eligible to represent Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management at the International Robotic Championship (RoboTryst-2015) IIT Delhi.

During this workshop students were provided hands-on experience and exposure in the latest technologies. They were taught to develop Object & Motion Detection Robotics, Line Follower Robot, GUI Switch Controlled Robot etc. Students were enriched by the vast technical experience of the two Research Engineers Mr. Amit Bhatia and Mr. Nitesh from Robosapeins Pvt. Ltd. Delhi.

Amada (India) Pvt. Ltd. recruitment Drive

Amada (India) Pvt. Ltd. conducted pool campus recruitment for final year Mechanical Engineering students in the campus. Seventeen students have been shortlisted for the second round of the interview. Results are awaited.

Sahyadri Whiz Quiz -Preliminary Rounds held at Degree Colleges

Canara First Grade College
Department of Business Administration hosted the preliminary round of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz at Canara First Grade College, Mangalore. The session began with Prof. Ramesh K G and Prof. Girish M addressing the student about the importance of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz. It was followed by preliminary round of Whiz Quiz, where 330 students of the college participated in the event. Ms. Anasuya, Faculty Co-ordinator, Canara College assisted the organizers in hosting the event. She appreciated the efforts of the institution in hosting such mega event at their premises. The finals of 1st Phase for the qualified team will happen on March 2, 2015 at Canara College.

Vivekananda College, Puttur
Phase 1 was organised in Vivekananda College, Puttur for 470 Students of final year B. Com. and BBM participated. Dr. Vishal Samartha, Prof. Lokesh and Prof. Karthik Kudroli addressed all the final year B. Com. and BBM students. Prof. Anand and Prof. Bhat HODs of Commerce and Management appreciated the efforts of the college in giving platform for the students. The written round was organized in the college for all final year students.

St. Philomena College, Puttur
Phase 1 was organised in St. Philomena College, Puttur for 170 Students of final year B. Com. and BBM participated. Dr. Vishal Samartha, Prof. Lokesh and Prof Karthik Kudroli addressed all the final year B. Com. and BBM students. Prof. Maxim Carlo HODs of Commerce and Management appreciated the efforts of the college in giving platform for the students. The written round was organized in the college for all final year students.

SDM College, Mangalore
Sahyadri Whiz Quiz. Phase 1 was organised in SDM College of Business Management, Mangalore. 360 students of final year BBM and BHRD have participated. Dr. Vishal samartha, Prof Lokesh, Prof. Abhay and Prof Karthik Kudroli addressed all the final year BBM and BHRD students. Prof. Aruna Kamath, Principal, SDM College and Prof. Trishanth, coordinator of the program appreciated the efforts of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management in providing the platform for the students. The written round was organized in SDM College for all final year students.

St. Aloysius College, Mangalore
Sahyadri Whiz Quiz Phase I, A Written Quiz round at St. Aloysius College, Mangalore was organized by the Dept. of Business Administration. A total 220 students from final year degree participated in teams of 3 each. Students took part in the written quiz competition with enthusiasm and looked keen on being selected for the Sahyadri Whiz Quiz Grand Finale that would be held on March 6th’2015 at Sahyadri Campus.


 

Principal invited as a resource person

Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, was invited as a resource person and the chief guest for the one week ISTE Approved STTP on “IMPLEMENTATION OF OUTCOME BASED EDUCATION (OBE) FOR QUALITY ENHANCEMENT IN TECHNICAL INSTITUTIONS” on 16th February, 2015, Organized by AIKTC’s School of Engineering & Technology and School of Pharmacy. He addressed on “Assuring Quality and Stimulating Innovation in Technical Education”. Audience spanned various engineering colleges of Maharashtra.

ORPH-Help: To give is to receive

CLOUDS, (Computer Legends Of Unified Department @ Sahyadri) , Students’ Association of Computer Science and Engineering conducted “Orph-Help;” an intra-departmental activity which is an initiative to help the elderly, orphans and differently-abled people of the society.

The function was inaugurated by N M Sarma, VP & Head, Analytics & Insights, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) who initiated the contribution by donating Rs.10,000. He said it was the best ever moment in any college he spent. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, Prof. B. S. Umashankar, Dean-Academics, Mr. Francis V. J, Administrative Manager, Prof. Sudheer Shetty, HoD, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Prof. J. V. Gorabal, HOD, Department of MCA, faculty members and office bearers of CLOUDS were present during the function. Competitions like movie quiz, variety programmes were conducted for students and faculty members, this paved an opportunity for them to show their talents.

Infosys off Campus Recruitment Drive

Mr. Arjun Pai Sr.Lead, Talent Acquisition, Infosys Ltd. & Team conducted online test off campus recruitment drive in the college. VTU Engineering students from Mangalore and Mysore region participated in this drive. 28 students got shortlisted for the final round among which 26 students have been selected.

TCS off Campus Recruitment Drive

TCS Campus hiring team conducted off campus recruitment drive in the campus for 2015 batch engineering students. One thousand students had registered for the drive. Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management is one of the main regional centers for online test.

Sahyadri Girls Volleyball Team Emerge as Champions

Sahyadri Girls Volleyball team has emerged Champions in “VTU Rest of Bangalore zone Volleyball Tournament” held at JNNCE, Shimoga on the 20th and 21st of February 2015 by defeating NMAMIT, Nitte in the finals.
