Chairman of Sidhartha University Visits Sahyadri

Dr. G. Parameshwar, Chairman, Sidhartha University, Tumkur visited the Campus. Dr. G. Parameshwar the President of KPCC and a well-wisher of the College expressed, “Among the recently started Engineering Colleges in the State, it is one of the best established institutes. The faculty and the academic activities impressed the most. The students have an excellent atmosphere for their studies. The building of course is different, the corridors and the facilities for students to spend their spare time is excellent. The rear end of the Campus gives anybody the feel of nature and a serene atmosphere. Congratulations to my dear friend, Shri. Manjunath Bhandary for two things - one, selecting the site and the other, in creating these excellent facilities.”

MLC, Mr. Ivan D' Souza Inaugurates Sahyadri Student Council

Mr. Ivan D' Souza, MLC, Govt. of Karnataka inaugurated the Sahyadri Student Council. In his inaugural address, Mr. D' Souza told the students to develop leadership qualities to come up in life. He said, “We should have a definite goal and strive hard to achieve it.” During the inaugural programme, the coordinators were felicitated by Mr. Ivan D' Souza. The invocation song was sung by Ms. Mallika D. K. G. Dr. Antony A. J., Vice-Principal presented a brief report of the activities happening at Sahyadri. Mr. Gautham Shetty, President, Student Council welcomed the gathering. Mr. Veer Jain, Coordinator, Placements, gave a brief introduction of the Chief Guest. Mr. Roysten D' Souza, Coordinator, Club Activities proposed the Vote of Thanks. Ms. Megnashree Y. compered the programme.

Prior to the inaugural function, Dr. Antony A. J., Vice-Principal along with Prof. Umashankar B. S., Dean-Academics took Mr. D' Souza around the Campus. He was very impressed with the facilities provided at Sahyadri.

Mr. Ivan D’Souza is an Indian politician. He obtained his LLB degree from SDM Law College, Mangalore. He began his political career in 1992 and is currently a member of the Indian National Congress. In 2008, he was named as the candidate of Indian National Congress for Mangalore South Constituency. He is currently the KPCC member and convener of the Election Committee for the Indian National Congress in Dakshina Kannada.

Semester III Part-Time M.Tech. Result: Sahyadri 100%

The College has recorded a one hundred percentage result in the III Semester part-time M.Tech. declared by VTU for the 2014-15 examination in all the four branches. Out of nine students who took the Digital Electronics (LDZ) examination, eight obtained a distinction and one student first class. In Transportation Engineering (CTZ), out of the six students, five obtained distinction and one student obtained first class. In Computer Integrated Manufacturing (MCZ), out of the fourteen students who took the examination, ten obtained distinction and four first class. Likewise, in Computer Science & Engineering (SPZ), out of the twelve students who took the examination, seven obtained distinction while five obtained first class.

Semester I Part-Time M.Tech Results

In the Semester I part-time M.Tech. results declared by VTU for the 2014-15 examinations conducted for all the four branches. Out of these, Computer Integrated Manufacturing (MCZ) and Computer Science & Engineering (SPZ) branches secured 100% results. The Transportation Engineering (CTZ) obtained 71.43% and Digital Electronics (LDZ) obtained 37.50%.

Sahyadrians Participate in Nitte Mangalore 1/2 Marathon

1150 Sahyadrians participated in the Nitte Mangalore 1/2 Marathon (1/2 Marathon, 10Km, 5Km Celebration Race) organized by Dakshina Kannada Athletics Association at Mangala Stadium, Mangalore. View gallery.

Whiz Quiz College Round- Phase I and Phase II

SVS College, Bantwal
Sahyadri Whiz Quiz College round was conducted at SVS College, Bantwal. The Principal of SVS College, Dr. Panduranga Nayak welcomed the Sahyadrians and said that it is a great opportunity that Sahyadri College has provided to the students to showcase their intellectual talent and motivated his students to actively take part in the event. Ms. Divya Prabhu and Mr. Raghavendra Prabhu, Department of Business Administration, co-ordinated the Whizquiz.

About 114 students took part in the Phase I. Final year students of B.Com. and BBM participated with high spirits in this competition soon after which 8 teams were shortlisted for the Phase II. A final Quiz round was conducted and the 4 top teams were awarded certificates. The winning team from participating colleges will be competing in the campus on 6th March, 2015 during the Grand Finale.

Milagres College, Mangalore
Sahyadri Whiz Quiz College round was conducted at Milagres College, Mangalore. Ms. Sushma, Ms. Gayathri and Ms. Divya of the Department of Business Administration, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and Ms. Priya, faculty member of Milagres College co-ordinated the event.

About 108 students took part in the Phase I. Final year students of B.Com. and BBM participated in this competition soon after which 8 teams were shortlisted for the Phase II. A final Quiz round was conducted. All the teams performed really well and the top 4 teams were declared winners. The Principal of the institute, Rev. Fr. Francis Xavier Gomes congratulated Sahyadri for initiating this idea. He also honoured the winners by awarding them the certificates.

Sri Ramakrishna College
Sahyadri Whiz Quiz was successfully executed in Sri Ramakrishna College, Mangalore. Phase 1 and Phase 2 of Whiz Quiz was organized in the seminar hall of the college and 112 Students of final year B. Com. and BBM participated with full enthusiasm and vigor. Prof. Gayathri Shetty and Prof. Sushma Kannan Nair, along with four student volunteers spearheaded the initiative. The event began with a short formal program in the presence of faculty coordinator Mrs. Bhavya. The quiz began with Phase 1 – MCQ round (elimination) and 8 teams were shortlisted. These teams competed with each other for the phase 2 quiz round and 4 ultimate winners were chosen. The program was well coordinated by the help of faculty and student volunteers.

SDM College of Business Management
Phase 2 of the Sahyadri Whiz Quiz was conducted at SDM College of Business Management, Mangalore. Megha Shetty, Lolitha D’Souza, Shreyas and Marzina were the 4 quiz masters from the MBA 1st year. 14 teams emerged as winners from the 370 final year degree students. The students were felicitated with a certificate and were motivated to take up the grand finale at the Sahyadri campus more seriously with meticulous preparation. Prof. Aruna Kamath, Principal of SDM College congratulated the team from Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management for their wonderful coordination throughout the program. Dr. Vishal Samartha, Mr. Lokesh, Mr. Karthik Kudroli and Mrs. Gayathri Shetty from the MBA department handled the phase 2 of quiz along with student volunteers from the department.

St. Joseph’s College
The Department of Business Administration hosted the preliminary round and Phase II of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz at St. Joseph’s College, Jeppu, Mangalore. The session began with the faculty member Mr. Girish M. addressing the students about the importance of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz. It was followed by preliminary round of Whiz Quiz, where 27 students of the college participated in the event. Fr. Prakash D’Souza, Principal, St Joseph’s College assisted the organisers in hosting the event. He appreciated the efforts of the institution in hosting such a mega event at their premises.

Vivekananda College
Sahyadri Whiz Quiz Phase 2 was organised in Vivekananda College, Puttur for selected students of the first round. Sharveen, Vishnu, Shreyas and Marzina, students of first year MBA were the quiz masters. Sixteen teams emerged winners from final year degree.

Philomena College
In the round 2 conducted at St. Philomena College, Puttur, selected students of the first round were quizzed by Shreyas and Marzina, students of the first year MBA. Eight teams emerged as winners from final year degree.

The students from both colleges were felicitated with a certificate and were motivated to take up the grand finale at the Sahyadri campus more seriously with meticulous preparation. Prof Lokesh, Prof. Abay Kumar with the student volunteers of the Department of Business Administration coordinated the events.

Prof. Maxim Carlo of Vivekananda College, Prof. Anand and Prof. Ravikala of St. Philomena College congratulated the Department of Business adimistration, Sahyadri College for their coordinating an event of such magnitude.

Opportunities in the UK by British Council

Ms. Mirrin Raikhan, Project Manager, Services for International Education Marketing, British Council, South India, addressed the final year engineering students on the opportunities in the UK and also touched upon 65 universities in UK. She also stressed on the proficiency test entry mode for UK universities and scholarships available for the students.

Sahyadrians Bag Prizes in Fishco Festival-2015 and Canara Fest `AAKRITI 2015’

Students of the College bagged the First prize in the Dance, Pencil Sketching and Collage Competition in Fishco Festival – 15; an inter-collegiate cultural extravaganza, organized by the College of Fisheries, Yekkuru, Mangalore. Anuraj Chouta, Nikhitha V. Anchan, Rachana P. Shetty, Arathi M., Anusha Bhandary, Atulya, Navaneeth, Mansa, Neha Shetty, Manasa and Anusha Bhandary Kulai comprised the dance team, Neha Jabbar for Pencil Sketching and Arun Naik and Neha Jabbar for Collage. In another event, Canara Fest `AAKRITI 2015’, an inter-collegiate cultural competition held at Canara Engineering College, Chitharanjan M. a student of M.Tech. (Civil) won the Second place in the Face Painting Competition.

Sahyadrians on a Winning Spree: SAMBRAMA – 15

Students of the College bagged the First place in the Variety and Painting Competition and the Second place in the Dance Competition in Sambrama – 15; an inter-collegiate National Level Technical and Cultural Fest organised by Shree Devi Institute of Technology, Kenjar, Mangalore. Jnanesh, Swasthik, Sushanth, Akshay Bhandary, Yashwin, Vaishak, Vardhana, Utham, Rajath, Athish and Rohith won the Variety Competition, Arun Naik the Painting Competition and Sonali Rao, Pooja Saliyan, Sreeja Shetty, Sushmitha Rao, Shifali Kamath, Joylini, and Medini Bhat won the Dance Competition. In the Technical Paper Presentation and Solo Singing Competition, Shelton Rainer Pinto bagged the Second place, Rakshit Raj bagged the First place in Quick Cad and Sreeraj and Rakshit Raj bagged the First place in the Collage Making Competition.

Faculty Member Invited to Join LIC of VTU

Mr. Sudheer Shetty, Associate Professor & HoD, Department of Computer Science & Engineering has been invited to become a member of the Local Inquiry Committee (LIC) of VTU to inspect the various colleges affiliated to VTU for the granting of Continuation / Extension of Affiliation for the academic year 2015-16.

Faculty Member’s Paper in International Journal

A research paper entitled “Crucial role of molecular planarity on the second order nonlinear optical property of pyridine based chalcone single crystals” authored by Anthoni Praveen Menezes, A. Jayarama, Department of Physics, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and Seik Weng Ng has been published in Journal of Molecular Structure, Volume 1088, 15 May 2015, Pages 85–94 .

Faculty Member Invited as Resource Person

Mr. Karthik Raj Kudroli, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration, was invited to deliver a guest lecture on the topic "Current Trends in Supply Chain Industry" in Manel Srinivas Nayak Memorial Besant Institute of Post Graduate Studies, Besant Vidya Kendra, Bondel, Mangalore, for the first and second year MBA students. He was also invited to deliver a guest lecture on the Topic "Motivation, Leadership and Behavior" in Sullia Government First Grade College for the final year students.

Team “ARIONS” Participate in “BAJA SAE INDIA 2015”

Team “ARIONS” participated in “BAJA SAE INDIA 2015” – a National level off-road Car Racing Competition held at NATRIP, Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The team successfully cleared all the six tests; the weight test , Go - No Go test, engine test, technical inspection, presentation which included design, marketing and cost and the figure of 8 test during the event.

The team members are Gautham Nayak, Jhonson Tellis, Nishanth, Titto Thomas, Akhil Shaju, Ankush, Shine Jees, Jerin David, Sachin Kumar Nair, Amod Kamath, Fenil Mehta, Gokul Nair, Kaushik K. S., Mohiyuddeen Mushin, Bhavik Das, Madhukeshwar, Chetan, Poornima and Chitra.

118 teams from colleges all over the country participated in the event. The team was accompanied by Mr. Kiran Prakash, Assistant Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Girish Hegde and Mr. Vinay B. U., Assistant Professors of the department were the faculty advisors for the team “ARIONS.”

Obituary

Sahyadri family deeply mourns the sad demise of our student, Mr. Shetty Vaibhav Sainath, Semester II, Department of Civil Engineering. May his soul rest in peace and the Almighty give his family the strength to bear this loss.

Renuka Shenoy, student of second year MBA (Finance), has been recruited by Ernst and Young (E & Y) in the recently held pooled campus recruitment at Alva’s campus.

E&Y is a globally-integrated professional services organization that provides advisory, assurance, tax and transaction services.

Pooled Campus Recruitment drive by Manipal Technologies

Manipal Technologies conducted a pooled campus recruitment drive for MBA HR students at Sahyadri Campus organized by the Department of Business Administration. The drive commenced with a pre-placement talk by Ms. Vidya Shenoy, Assistant Manager – HR. The students had a group discussion and face to face interview.

Eleven students of Sahyadri and AIMIT participated in the drive. Five students in total were shortlisted for the final rounds to be held at Manipal.

Pooled Campus Recruitment Drive by Axis Bank

Mr. Yashokumar and Ms. Deekshitha N. M., second year MBA students have been selected by Axis Bank in the recently held pooled campus recruitment held in the Campus. Axis Bank is the third largest private sector bank in India. Axis Bank offers the entire spectrum of financial services to customer segments covering Large and Mid-Corporates, MSME, Agriculture and Retail Businesses.

Sahyadri Boys are the Volleyball Champions for the Fourth Consecutive Year

Sahyadri Boys’ Volleyball team emerged the Champions for the fourth consecutive year in the Mangalore Zone Volleyball Tournament held at Vivekananda College of Engineering & Technology, Puttur. The team members are Abhishek Amin (Captain), Sharad R. Shetty, Deekshith Shetty, Suraj K.S. Naik, Subramanya M.V., Keerthi Shetty, Harshith, Izahid V., B. M. Raman Ahmed, Mithesh, Glister Prithesh D’Silva and Sri Harsha Bhat.

Girls’ Volleyball Team Emerge Champions

The Girls’ Volleyball team of the College emerged Champions in the VTU level inter-zone Volleyball Tournament held at ACSCE, Bangalore.

Priyanka (Captain), Sushmitha, Ashmitha, Yashwitha, Tanya, Vinutha, Nishmitha, Lipitha, Jyotsna, Likitha, Anvitha and Pratheeksha are the Volleyball team members.
