Wolfram Research Demonstrates Mathematica Software
Dr. Aravind Hanasoge, Consultant, Wolfram Research, Mr. U. M. Tharanath, CEO, and Mr. Girish H, Senior Presales Engineer at G.T. Enterprises, visited the campus and demonstrated Mathematica; a software developed by Wolfram Research. Mathematica is an original, longstanding flagship product and a major force in the technical and educational communities, with millions of dedicated users around the world. Built on global technology base, Mathematica represents a unique blend of major research breakthroughs, outstanding user-oriented design, and world-class software engineering.
Dr. Aravind Hanasoge explained to The HODs, the Dreamers team and the faculty members present the various aspects of Mathematica, its advantages, scope, data manipulation, functions of Mathematica, and how to plot the functions. He illustrated the application examples, symbolic computing, visualization functions, live image capture, and wavelets analysis. Faculties were given free trial versions of the software kits. Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2016 Phase I Conducted at Various Colleges
Phase-I of the inter-collegiate quiz competition Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2016 has commenced. It was held at Vivekananda College and St. Philomena College, Puttur, Sri Ramakrishna College, and St. Agnes Degree College, Mangalore.
So far, close to 1000 students from the final year B Com and BBM of all the four colleges took part with full enthusiasm and vigor. Prof. Lokesh and Prof Karthik Kudroli, Prof. Gayathri Sehtty and Dr. Vishal Samartha Ms. Sushma V along with student volunteers spearheaded the initiative. A short introduction on Sahyadri was given before the commencement of the competition.
  Prof. Venkatarana Bhat, the HOD, Commerce & Management and faculty coordinators Prof. Ravikala and Prof. Rekha of Vivekananda College, Prof. Maxim Carlo, HOD. Commerce & Management and faculty coordinator Prof. Chandrashekar of St. Philomena College, faculty coordinator Ms Soumya of Sri Ramakrishna College, applauded Sahyadri for the novel and innovative idea. They thanked the college for giving a platform to the students to take part in the competitions. Dr. Devi Prabha Alva, HOD of the Commerce department, St. Agnes Degree College, also urged the students to participate in the upcoming event at Sahyadri - "Panel Discussion on Union Budget 2016-17” highlighting that a responsible citizen & moreover commerce students in particular, should have a thorough knowledge on the budget.

Mallika D K G Presents Paper at National Conference
 
Mallika D K G, Semester IV, M.Tech (Computer Science) presented her paper titled “SMART-EVM: A Revolutionary Approach in Voting Process Using Combination of Biometrics and Cloud” coauthored by Prof. Ankitha K, under the guidance of Prof Sudheer Shetty, HOD, Department of Computer Science & Engineering. The paper was presented by her at the National Level Conference on “Make in India an Opportunity for Emerging Engineering Technologies” organized by S G Balekundri Institute of Technology, Belagavi.

Mangalore Infotech Campus Recruitment Drive
Mangalore Infotech Solutions Pvt. Ltd. conducted a campus recruitment drive for the engineering students of the 2016 batch. Four students of the college are shortlisted for the final round of interview. Mr. Prashanth Shenoy, Director, Mangalore Infotech Solutions (P) Ltd (UniCourt) accompanied by the panelists on the recruitment team were at the campus to facilitate the entire process. Our alumni Isham Ibrahim and Karthik Bhat working for Mangalore infotech also interacted with the students.
The company also conducted a separate campus recruitment drive for the engineering students of the 2016 batch to hire candidates for coding. Two students have been shortlisted for the interview round. The final results are awaited.

MBA Director Guest of Honour at Women Entrepreneurs Summit & Market Fair
Dr. A. P. Achar, Director, Department of Business Administration, was the guest of honour at the inaugural function of the Women Entrepreneurs Summit and Market Fair organized by Platform for Women Entrepreneurs (POWER). Dr Achar delivered the keynote address on women empowerment through entrepreneurship.

Student Club Activities Commence
The student club activities for the year 2016 have commenced. Manthana-Our Walk Towards Change-The CSR Club, Abhiruchi-The Hobby Club, Logical Indian-The Jugaad Club, Oratocrats-The Gavel club and Quizzard-The Quiz Club were the clubs that were kicked off.
A mock session on the working of the clubs was conducted by members of Oratocrats Gavel Club. Ice breaker, Dum- Shararath, pick and speak and many more fun activities were conducted. Students enjoyed and appreciated the session.

The key objective of this special issue is to provide a guide to the rapidly developing resources in science and technology and their impact on human lives. Papers of this special issue include intelligent systems developed in the area of Statistical Analysis, Machine Learning, Soft Computing, Next Generation Computing, and Medical Image Processing. All the papers included in this special issue are indexed by Scopus (Elsevier).

Faculty Member Attends Bangalore India BIO 2016
Professor Ashwath Rao of the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering attended the Bangalore India BIO 2016; India's biggest biotech show at The Lalit Ashok, Bengaluru. The conference was organised by KBITS, Keonics and Vision Group on Biotechnology. The conference had noted speakers like Dr. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Dr. Gordon Sanghera, Dr. Paul Salins and many eminent personalities. Various topics related to biotechnology, agribiotechnology for food feed fuel and fiber security and IOT in healthcare was discussed. Prof. Ashwath had the opportunity to interact with Dr. Shyam Vasudev Rao, Founder, Forus Healthcare and Mr. Nitesh Jangir, Co-Founder, Coeo Labs. Sri Ramachandra Bhatta, Dharmadarshi, Sri Siddivinayaka Temple, Hattiyangady, Kundapur, visited the campus. He appreciated and lauded the infrastructure and the facilities provided by the management for the students. On behalf of the temple he conveyed his best wishes to each and every one at Sahyadri.

A Mobile Photography Competition with the theme ‘Perspective’ was organised by ‘ABHIRUCHI’ – The Hobby Club.
Gulfam, Semester II, bagged the First prize with Manish, Semester VIII, both from the Department of Information Science & Engineering bagging the Second prize. Vasanth Kedige, Media Consultant, Aptra Technologies judged the event.

Presentation by mathematics faculty members as part of departmental activity
The faculty members of the department of mathematics as a part of their departmental activity presented topics discussed by invited speakers at a conference on `Mathematics and its Applications’ at Adichunchanagiri Institute of Technology, Chikmagalur in which they had participated recently. Prof. Suchetha, presented the topic ‘Rheodynamic lubrications of an externally pressurised thrust bearing using yield-stress fluids, generalized inverses and associated partialorde in different algebraic structures and primary and secondary instabilities in nano liquids .’ Prof. Ayesha presented `Solving simple puzzles or complex problems and a survey of algorithmic techniques’ while Prof. Savitha presented the topic on `Buoyancy induced flow over axisymmetric bodies and effect of different thermal boundary conditions.’

Ashmitha J Rodrigues, Yashwitha and Nishmitha G. Kulal represented VTU at the South Zone Inter-University level Volleyball Tournament held at Krishna University, Machlipattnam, Andhra Pradesh. Ashmitha Rodrigues was the captain of the VTU Girls’ Volleyball team.
