The NAAC Peer Team Visit

A three-member peer team from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) comprising of Dr. G.S. N. Raju, Former Vice-Chancellor, Andhra University, Dr. Vidhyadhar Reddy Aileni, Former Dean Professor, Department of Management, Osmania University and Dr. Appasaheb A Keste, Principal, M.E.S College of Engineering, Pune began a three-day inspection of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management today. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in the country established in 1994 with its headquarters at Bengaluru.

Dr. G.S.N. Raju received his B.E., M.E. with distinction and first rank from Andhra University and Ph.D. from IIT, Kharagpur with teaching and research experience of around 34 years in the field of Antennas, Electronics, EMI/EMC and Microwave, Radar communications, & Electronic Circuits. He has guided 34 Ph.D scholars, published 380 technical papers in National and International Journals and in conferences and also published 11 text books. He was a visiting professor in the University of Paderborn and also in the University Karlsruhe, Germany. He has received awards in the field of teaching and research like “Eminent Electronic and Communication Engineer” 2012 from institution of Engineers (India), “National Award for Teaching Excellence” by Indus Foundation during Indo-American Education Summit & Expo 2013 in Hyderabad, “Mother Teresa International Award” from Sri. Justice Shyamal Sen, Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court. His academic achievement includes CGPA of 10/10 – All branches topper in engineering first year which has broken all the previous records.

Dr. Vidyadhar Reddy Aileni has won multiple academic laurels, citation and was awarded gold medal by Osmania University MBA Alumni Association for best research paper published in 2003-04. He has also written a book on Agricultural Marketing and has been the member of the editorial board for International Academy of E-Business (IAEB), USA, Chief editor of Osmania Journal of Management, India and editorial member of ICFAIAN Journal of Services Marketing, India. Dr. A V Reddy designed a course in MBA Technology Management in Osmania University, which was first of its kind in Indian Universities. This Program is being offered in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Department of Science and Industrial Research (DSIR), Govt. of India. Dr. A V Reddy provided consultancy to many government agencies and companies in corporate sector. Currently, he is a consultant to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Media Research.

Dr. Appasaheb Keste is a Ph.D from Government College of Engineering, University of Pune. He has guided 5 Ph.D candidates in the field of Mechanical-Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning. He was the member of the Board of Studies in University of Pune and Senior Member and Reviewer of International Conference and worked as Session Chair and Programme Committee member in various International Conferences. He has published 20+ technical papers in National/International Journals/Conferences.

The NAAC Peer Team assessed the existence of holistic processes related to Engineering Education System. Their focus was student-centric and the overall satisfaction of the stakeholders. They inspected the entire premises of the institute minutely - E-Cell, products like SMART Helmet, Dream Kit, EDGE, Smart Plug, Research Centre, Hands-on-Experience Lab, Aero-Club, Library and various Departments of Engineering & MBA. They interacted with the stakeholders - alumni, parents and industry personnel. They will continue to assess the remaining aspects on 3rd and 4th Feb’17. It will be a wonderful learning experience to professionally grow in times to follow.

Day 2
The Day 2 of the NAAC Peer Team visit to various Engineering Departments of the institute. They also had a look at the operations of Support services like Placement, Food Court, Auditorium, Indoor Gym, Sports Arena, Hostel, Transportation, Bio Gas Plant, CENT. The team was then interested to review the Administration Department which included Admissions, Finance and Examination Section. The NAAC Peer team also interacted with the Teaching & Non-Teaching Staff.

Day 3
The NAAC Peer Team visit comes to end with the Exit Meeting in which the Chairman - Dr. G.S. N. Raju, Former Vice-Chancellor, Andhra University, along with the members - Dr. Vidhyadhar Reddy Aileni, Former Dean Professor, Department of Management, Osmania University and Dr. Appasaheb A Keste, Principal, M.E.S College of Engineering, Pune addressed Sahyadri Management, Faculty and Administration Team regarding their experience, feedback and suggestions from their three days of inspection. The NAAC Peer team appreciated the involvement of Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundations who was personally present to gain inputs for the holistic development of the institution. The team was fascinated with the credentials of the Governing Body of the college which included the profiles of the Director and also the Principal. They were glad to see a huge number of faculties enrolled for Ph.D and urged the rest to take up Ph.D for their personal, professional as well as the institutional growth. They were delighted with the meticulously planned campus, encouragement given towards skill development, Hands on Training and also beyond curriculum activities. The NAAC Peer Team were appreciative about the measures taken to ensure Mental fitness and Physical fitness of students in terms of cultural activities as well as sports which spoke a lot about the overall development of the students.

The team, then encouraged Sahyadri to go for NBA as it focuses on branch-wise development and lot of inputs are obtained for an institution like Sahyadri, which focuses on its growth and welcomes all suggestions in the best interest of its stakeholders. They also stimulated the institution to go for Autonomous and also initiate Diploma courses. The Feedback & Suggestion Report was finally handed over to the Principal.

Aerophilia – 2017, A National Level AeroModelling Event & Air-Show

Aerophilia 2017 saw an interesting workshop on Chuck Gliders & Paper Planes by Ex. Commander P.R.A Narayanan which threw light on the functioning of Chuck Gliders & Paper Planes and various factors to be considered while flying them. By the end of the workshop, students were able to build their own gliders & planes. This was followed by a technical talk by Prof. B N Kulkarni, Er. Rajanikanth Shashtri, Prof. B N Karkera and Mr. M R Vasudeva exposing the participants to newer possibilities thus enabling them to broaden their thoughts. In addition to these sessions, Paper Plane & Chuck Glider competitions were organized wherein the young competitors set their creations fly high in air.

The winners were felicitated by the dignitaries - Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, Prof. S. S. Balakrishna, Vice-Principal, Dr. J.V. Gorabal, Dean Academics & Prof. B N Karkera during the valedictory ceremony.

Union Budget 2017-18 LIVE streaming for MBAs

MBA students had an opportunity to watch Union Budget 2017-18 presented by Mr. Arun Jaitley, Union Finance Minister, LIVE in the seminar hall. The takeaways and reforms of Union Budget 2017-18 shall be presented by the students in groups, targeting 15 prime sectors like Education, Manufacturing, Agriculture, Health Care, Fiscal and so on. As a further course of action, students shall also do presentations in their respective degree colleges in order to create awareness on Union Budget among their juniors. In addition to this, Department of Business Administration is organizing a programme on Union Budget 2017-18 on Feb 7th’2017 inviting guests from various sectors for panel discussion and presentation.

Pulsed Laser Deposition System has been installed

The PLD system manufacturer Mr. Subhash Pai, CTO, Excel Instruments and Mr. Sumesh Kumar, Engineer from Pfeiffer vacuum have carried out the installation and trial PLD runs have been taken. Compex PRO 201 Excimer laser was used as an energy source for thin film deposition. Prof. Richard Pinto, Director-CENT and Sahyadri research team were present during the installation. It is also important to mention that Compex PRO 201 Excimer laser was purchased last year from Coherent GmbH, Germany with kind support provided by the Management. Pulsed Laser Deposition is a powerful technique for the growth of thin films of multi-component complex materials. This system will act as a vital tool at CENT to make rapid progress in the direction of growth of high quality Nano-materials, thin films and devices such as gas sensors, especially in collaboration with other institutions and industry partners.

French scientist visited Sahyadri for collaborative Research work

Dr. Michael Neumann-Spallart, Scientist from CNRS, France visited Center of Excellence in Nano-science and Technology (CENT) for collaborative work in nano-science and technology, specifically in the fields of devices using pulsed laser deposition. He appreciated the quality of equipment set up at CENT particularly, Excimer Laser Compex PRO 201, Coherent GmbH, Germany and the PLD system from Excel Instruments, Mumbai stating that they are among the best in the world. He was appreciative about the support from the management in initiating advanced research at Sahyadri.

CNRS, a French National Center for Scientific Research, is the largest government research organization in France. It is also the largest fundamental science and multidisciplinary research organization in Europe covering areas of mathematics, physics, information and communication sciences and technologies, nuclear and high-energy physics, earth sciences and cosmology, chemistry, life sciences, humanities and social sciences, environmental sciences and engineering sciences. It employs 32,000 permanent employees (researchers, engineers, and administrative staff) and 6,000 temporary workers.

Dr. Michael has been visiting TIFR and IIT Bombay for collaborative work during the last 25 years when Prof. Richard Pinto was a part of these institutions. Dr. Michael had words of praise for the ambience of Sahyadri campus especially the open space and architecture. He has also shown interest in initiating scientific collaboration with Sahyadri.

Seven-Day Software Development Training organised by Flicker Infotech

Flicker Infotech conducted a Seven-Day Software Development Training using JAVA, OOPS, JDBC, STRUTS2 and APACHE TOMCAT SERVER in Sahyadri Campus. Students from various engineering colleges attended the training. Participants were delighted by the Training structure and the takeaways they had in these seven days and also for the immense learning outcome. Trainers from reputed software industry facilitated the sessions during the course of the training. By the end of this Hands-on Training, participants could individually develop completely tested software.

Silver Peak Global visited Sahyadri to conduct campus recruitment drive for engineering students of 2017 batch. Mr. Vinay N, Director – Corporate Relations, Silver Peak Global was at the campus to facilitate the entire recruitment process.

First year students of DTLABZ won “Best Freshers Award” at IIT, Kharagpur

First year students of Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd. participated in KSHITIJ 2017 Asia's Largest Techno-Management fest held at IIT, Khargpur. They participated in three events, Conquest – To build a robot with Computer Vision Technology, Droid blits – To build an amphibious bot which can travel both on land and water, Bricks – To build a robot which can segregate hollow and solid blocks. A team of 16, first year students participated in the event.

Sahyadri International Journal of Research, Volume 2, Issue 2 has been published

SAHYADRI International Journal of Research, Volume 2, Issue 2 (ISSN: 2456-186X) has been published today. The current issue has research articles, review papers and a scientific article. Editorial board would like to thank the contributors and reviewers of the journal. Musical Concert at Sahyadri in association with SPIC MACAY

In association with SPIC MACAY, Mangalore Chapter, Pt. Pushparaj Koshti gave a Sitar and Surbahar Musical Concert in Sahyadri, mesmerizing the audience with his musical flavour and unique creativity in the art. The future musicians of Sahyadri were deeply touched by the soothing rhythm and the audience greatly appreciated the concert and the finesse of the sitar & Sur Bahar.

Pt. Pushparaj Koshti is a renowned player of Sitar and the Surbahar and a leading exponent of the Dhrupad style. His first Sitar teacher was his father, the Late. Ramlal Koshti. Pt. Pushparaj Koshti is an A grade artist of All India Radio and has appeared throughout India and across Europe, including a stint as a teacher at the Rotterdam Conservatory, the continent's leading institution in the field of World Music Education. He was accompanied by Vid. Vivekanand Karungale on Tabla.

SPIC MACAY is an affirmation of the need to conserve and promote an awareness of the rich cultural tapestry of India among the youth, through focus on the classical arts with its rituals, mythology and philosophy and to facilitate an appreciation of their deeper values. The movement is educational in spirit and character and locates itself in educational institutions.

CREAM for First Year MBA Students First Year MBA Students had a Three-Day training programme named ‘CREAM – Campus Recruitment Excellence Achievement Modules’ facilitated by trainers from Seventh Sense Talent Solutions. The CREAM programme has contributed to the transformation and overall development of the students. Corporate to Campus (C2C) team of Infosys interacts with students

CREAM for First Year MBA Students Corporate to Campus (C2C) team of Infosys Mangalore visited Sahyadri and had an interactive session with the final and pre-final year students. They shared their expertise with the young minds, focusing on the topics relating to - Role in the IT Industry for non-IT professionals, growth trajectory and preparations, Real feel of the IT Industry and the evolution in it. Students were also briefed on structuring their resumes.

Six-Day Robotics Training conducted by Flicker Infotech

Dr. Molly Chaudhuri was the Master of Ceremonies at the International Conference

CREAM for First Year MBA Students Dr. Molly Chaudhuri was the Master of Ceremonies at the inaugural of the three-day International Conference on Green Banking - Perspectives and Challenges at the Mangalore University College, Mangalore. She also chaired a session at the conference.

Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2017 Kick Starts at Trisha College, Udupi

Sahyadri Whiz Quiz is an inter-collegiate quiz competition organized by Department of Business Administration with an objective to stimulate undergraduate students to bring themselves up-to-date with the latest news and developments in the areas of Marketing, Business, Finance & Banking, Human Resource & Indian Economy.

Sahyadri Whiz Quiz is conducted in two stages – Campus Round (Written Quiz & Campus level Quiz Round) which shall be held in the respective undergraduate colleges and Grand Finale which will be held in Sahyadri Campus on March 10th’2017.

As a part of the Campus round, Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2017 kick started with the faculty and student volunteers from Department of Business Administration visiting Trisha College, Udupi. Around 80 students participated in the quiz. Four teams of three each are selected for the Sahyadri Whiz Quiz Mega Finals in Sahyadri Campus.

Mr. Jagadish Poojary Wins First Prize & Title Winner in Dakshina Kannada - 2017, District level Body Building Competition

CREAM for First Year MBA Students Mr. Jagadish Poojary, staff member of Department of Mathematics and trainer at Sahyadri multi-gymnasium, won First prize in the ‘Dakshina Kannada - 2017’ District Body Building Competition held at Mangaluru and was awarded with the title “Mr. Dakshina Kannada - 2017”. He has been selected for Mr. Karnataka, State Level Body Building Competition 2017.
