Felicitation to Mr. Akshay Bhandary Department of Mechanical engineering felicitated Mr. Akshay Bhandary, for securing 4th rank in B.E.(Mechanical Engineering) VTU Examination during the academic year 2012 - 2016. He also scored 94.06% in the first semester in the academic year 2012 - 13, which is the all time record for the state in VTU examinations. Prof. S S Balakrishna, Vice-Principal gave introductory remarks appreciated the excellent academic achievement and active involvement of Mr. Akshay Bhandary in the cultural activities during his period of study. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, presided over the function and appreciated Mr. Akshay Bhandary and his parents. Mr. Akshay thanked Chairman Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Principal and all the faculty members for their support. Prof. Mahesh B Davanageri, HoD, staff and students of Mechanical Engineering department were present during the programme. Parents of Mr. Akshay Bhandary –Mrs Shwetha Bhandary and Mr. Ramesh Bhandary were also honoured during the occasion.

CodeQuest 2k17

CODEQUEST-and-HACKATHON Unicourt presents CodeQuest 2k17 was inaugurated by Mr. Prashanth Shenoy, Co-Founder, CTO, Mangaluru Infotech (UniCourt). Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, Dr. Balakrishna, Vice-Principal, Dr. J V Gorbal, Dean Academics, Jacob Tellis, Director-DTlabz, Naresh, Co-Founder, Host Zyro were present during the occasion. Total of 150 students from all over Karnataka participated in the event.

Code Quest 2017 is Mangaluru's biggest coding festival organised during 18th to 19th February 2017 in Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management by Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd. and Host Zyro, startup of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management.

Codequest is carried out in two phases. In the 1st Phase, workshops were conducted from 10th - 12th, February 2017. A total of 4 workshops were conducted namely IoT, Android, Wordpress and Corporate Awareness.

2nd Phase consisted of Mega Event of CodeQuest with Hackathon, Code Hunt and Counter Strike.

UniCourt being the title sponsor, Radio Mirchi, the Radio partner, Olpa, the Website & App partner, StartUp Mitra as Outreach partner, Reliance Jio as Internet partner, Esports Arena as Gaming partner have made this venture of inspiring the hacker culture in Mangaluru a successful one.

Two-Day Workshop on “Classroom to Boardroom" for M.Tech Civil Engineering

Two-Day-Workshop-on-“Classroom-to-Boardroom-for-M.Tech-Civil-Engineering Day One of the workshop started with the Inaugural Ceremony and Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Department of Business Administration was the chief guest. In her inaugural address, she stressed on how one should make the best use of the opportunities and resources available to emerge successful in all the endeavors. She also highlighted the importance of inculcating optimistic attitude throughout one’s career in order to pave a path leading to success. She also congratulated the Civil Engineering Department for organizing the workshop so as to enhance the entrepreneurial skills of postgraduate students. Mr. Pramod Mishra, Chief Safety Officer, MRPL was the Guest of Honour & Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal presided over the function. Prof. Umesh S S, HoD (PG), Department of Civil Engineering briefed about the workshop highlights to the gathering.

This was followed by a session on 'Safety in Construction' by Mr. Pramod Mishra, Chief Safety Officer, MRPL. In this session the students were briefed about the importance of safety norms that has to be strictly followed in a construction process. He also stressed on the importance of safety management in the efficient execution of a construction project.

The second session was on 'Entrepreneurial Skills' which was delivered by Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal. In this session, gists of entrepreneurial aspects were highlighted. Students were also briefed on how one should trigger their entrepreneurial traits and emerge successful.

The third session was on 'Financial Support Schemes' which was delivered by Mr. Reese Mathews, Chief Manager and Mr. Ravi Kumar, Manager, Canara Bank, Mangaluru. This session dealt with the various financial support schemes rendered by the financial institutions to the entrepreneurs aiding their startups.

The fourth session was on 'Opportunities for Consultancy Services' by Dr. Premanand Shenoy, Department of Civil Engineering.

Day2-of-Workshop-on-“Classroom-to-Boardroom--for-M.Tech-Civil-Engineering The second day of the workshop included four sessions. The first session was on ‘Ethics and Legality' by Dr. Premanand Shenoy, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering. In this session, the crowd was given quality inputs pertaining to the various unwritten ethicality that a consultant has to follow throughout his service tenure. A lot of inputs pertaining to the various legality issues and legality clauses were highlighted. The session was successful in triggering the ethical traits of the participants which definitely added vital value to the success stories of young Civil Engineers.

The second session of the workshop was on ‘Scope for Technical Outsourcing Opportunities for Structural Engineering Field by Er Dinesh Bhat, Co – Partner, Indevor Softech Ltd., Brahmavar. In this session, the students were briefed about the various outsourcing opportunities for Civil Engineers, the challenges faced during the outsourcing process and solutions for mitigating the challenges raised.

The third session of the workshop was on ‘Accountancy for Engineers,’ by CA Chandramohan K Y, Chartered Account and Certified Auditor, Mangalore. The session included topics relating to economic activities, income and expenditure statements, Maintenance of Books of Accounts, Income tax act, sole proprietorship, regulatory frame work and scheme of taxation.

The last session was on “Quality Management System for Engineering Startups” by Mr. Ravi Kiran, Senior Consultant, Global Quality Services, Bangalore. Quality, Liability, Responsibilities and Quality Management Principles were the main highlights of the session.

The workshop was followed by the valedictory ceremony. Mr. Nigam B Vasani, Co-founder, Sugam Paint Industries, Mangalore was the chief guest of the function. Dr U.M.Bhushi, Principal, presided over the function. Prof Umesh S.S, HoD (PG), Dr. Premananda Shenoy, Prof Purushothama C.T, HoD (UG) were present during the valedictory ceremony. Mrs. Deepthishree S Aithal, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the two day workshop rendered the vote of thanks.

Prof. Richard Pinto was invited to visit MIT, Manipal

Prof. Richard Pinto was invited to visit MIT, Manipal Prof. Richard Pinto and his team were invited to the Physics department of MIT, Manipal for discussion on collaborative work between the two institutions. During the visit, Prof. Richard Pinto, Director-CENT presented the research efforts at Sahyadri in the field of nano-science and technology. While advanced research requires substantial grant of funding and research manpower, Prof. Pinto stated that the initiative taken by Sahyadri management in procuring Excimer Laser Complex PRO 201, Coherent GmbH, Germany for growth of thin films by pulsed laser deposition is significant. Further, with the approval of the project proposal titled ‘Development of prototype ethanol sensor product based on PLD Grown BiFeO3 thin films’ by Karnataka Council for Technological Upgradation, Sahyadri will also acquire an advanced XRD system with capability for powder diffraction and attachments for thin film and SAXS.

With these vital equipments Sahyadri will be in a very strong position to collaborate with neighbouring institutes, especially MIT, Manipal. Collaboration with MIT, Manipal will be beneficial for Sahyadri in view of the fact that faculty at MIT, Manipal not only get seed money for research but also has a vibrant JRF (Junior Research Fellow) scheme with a monthly stipend of Rs. 16,000/-.

During the meeting many faculty members came forward for collaborative work with Sahyadri and details of first phase of future collaborations were discussed.

Sahyadrians participate in 200th cleanliness drive rally of Swacch Bharat Abhiyan Sahyadrians participate in 200th cleanliness drive rally of Swacch Bharat Abhiyan Swacch Bharat Abhiyan in Mangaluru spearheaded by Ramakrishna Mission got a big boost on Sunday, February 12th 2017 with veteran Bollywood actor, the renowned, Nana Patekar flagging off the 200th cleanliness drive rally and painting the wall of Mangalore University College at Hampankatta. A rally was taken out from Hampankatta to Ramakrishna Math, Mangaladevi, in which, along with Nana Patekar around six hundred 1st year students of Sahyadri had participated.

Mahindra Auto Quotient Season 8 conducted at Sahyadri  Mahindra Auto Quotient Season 8 conducted at Sahyadri Mahindra Auto Quotient Season 8 was conducted in Sahyadri campus. Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has been tagged as the AQ Hub in the Mangaluru region to host the Auto Quotient event.  Mr. Shoaib Sadiq, Team Auto Passion & Farm Passion – HR, Mahindra & Mahindra was at the campus to facilitate the entire process. Sixty Teams from the Mangaluru region were part of the event.

Mahindra Auto Quotient (AQ) has been engaging auto enthusiasts from the engineering and management fraternity for the past seven years. Through this time, it has established its position as India's largest automotive quiz for students to showcase their passion about the world of automobiles. Beginning with the City Finals conducted across 16 institutes across the country last year they have seen more than 2.25 lakh participants so far.

Dr. Kabbinale Balakrishna Bharadwaj, Principal & Prof. Vidya, Sharada First Grade College distributed certificates to the winning teams. In an interaction session with the Principal and faculty members, Sahyadri MBA has assured a One-Day Soft Skills Training as a Community Initiative for the needy students of their college since few of them would be taking up jobs post their graduation. In addition to this, they shall be informed of any Campus Recruitment Drives hosted at Sahyadri for undergraduate students.

SPSS - Research Papers workshop at SahyadriSPSS - Research Papers workshop at Sahyadri ‘SPSS-Research Papers workshop’ was jointly organized by SPSS and SIJR. The aim of the work shop was to provide the students a concrete plan and hands-on experience on the tools required to write a quality research paper. This workshop also encouraged competition on paper writing based on the results obtained in SPSS projects. The workshop had a series of talks and hands on presentations in the areas related to - ‘How to write a research paper’ by Dr. Richard Pinto, ‘Hands - on –using latex for writing a research paper’ by Prof. Pushpalatha, ‘Hands - on –using endnote / zotero for writing a research paper’ by Prof. Rathishchandra. R. Gatti, ‘SIJR author guidelines’ by Ms. Margaret D’Souza and ‘About choosing reputed journals, SCI impact factor and other journal indices by Prof. Jayarama A.

In the opening remarks during Inaugural ceremony of the workshop, Prof. Balakrishna appreciated that this in-house workshop is timely and will go a long way by stimulating paper writing culture among the students. Dr. Richard Pinto emphasized on the importance to research community which includes students and faculty of publishing the research results in reputed journals and also gave details of writing and refereeing procedures of research/review papers.

Dr.-Meena-Kumari,-an-IT-consultant-visits-Sahyadri Dr. Meena Kumari, an IT consultant visited Sahyadri campus and interacted with the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Principal and Administrator. She had an interactive session with the students of Sahyadri and also had a detailed discussion with the Sahyadri E-Cell.

Dr. Meena Kumari has got her MCA degree from Pune University and PhD from Punjab University in Artificial Intelligence, she has worked at TTTI (Technical Teacher Training Institute) Chandigarh as Software Development Head. She has worked as a Chief Technical Officer for Aptech for more than seven years, presently working as an IT consultant to companies in America and Malaysia. She has stated a science school for International curriculums to train students towards competitive exams such as Science and Mathematical Olympiads. She was instrumental in putting up Science conclave at IIIT- Allahabad.

Ltd & E-Cell Mr. Kiran Kumar, Company Secretary in Practice, Shivamogga and Mr. Gowresh Bhargav, Chartered Accountant, Shivamogga visited Sahyadri Campus. They interacted with the officials of Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd., and advised on various aspects of managing the company. They also offered advices to E-CELL in order to prepare a framework for all the startups in E-CELL.

Five-Day workshop on “Do Engineering” using LabVIEW

Five-Day-workshop-on-“Do-Engineering”-using-LabVIEW Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering conducted a Five-Day workshop on “Do Engineering” using LabVIEW from 13th to 17th February, 2017 in Sahyadri Campus. This workshop saw participation from 120 Students.

The students were given hands-on training by Mr. Sunil Kumar V and Mr. Manimaran which included concepts of amplitude modulation, 2D- rotating waveform, 3D graph and its plotting with briefing about different tools involved, tips on planning and strategies involved in tackling the problem and approach towards projects in industries and to use them in academic projects to the participants, hands on training on creating virus and to create .exe (executable) files using LabVIEW. They also presented the applications of LabVIEW on missileries, robotics, image processing and also in film industries to merge two different videos.

An exclusive training for the Faculty of Electronics Department on using the Labview and ELVIS-II tool was also a part of this workshop. In this session, emphasis was given to take keen interest by the faculty in taking this software tool forward for academic projects and influence students to incline towards LabVIEW. Faculty were urged to take it as a profession and make students as professionals.

MBA Alumnus conducts a Passport Camp at Sahyadri

MBA Alumnus conducts a Passport Camp at Sahyadri Arun Kumar BD, an Alumnus of Sahyadri MBA, currently an Assistant Branch Head at UAE Exchange & Financial Services Ltd, Mangaluru along with his team conducted a Passport Camp for the students of our institute. Department of Business Administration has left no stone unturned in making the students relieved of the task of getting their passports done. This paves the way for students to explore job opportunities overseas at the earliest. The camp has essentially eliminated the need for passport seekers to go to Passport Office to submit applications.
