A joyous moment for all the Sahyadrians as the institution has been accredited with “A” grade by NAAC committee with CGPA score of 3.09. The NAAC “A” grade has opened new avenues to our institute since we can now go in for foreign collaborations, research funding and better placements. We sincerely thank and owe our success to all our Stakeholders and Well wishers in this endeavour.

NIPM & Sahyadri jointly organise a National Conference in Sahyadri Campus National Institute of People Management (NIPM) in association with Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management organised a One-Day National Conference on “Leveraging Business Skills in line with current HR Trends and Employee Laws” in Sahyadri Campus. Delegates from industry, academicians and students from various PG Colleges were a part of the event.

The Inaugural ceremony was adorned with the presence of Mr. K Prabhakar Rao, Director – Works, MCF Ltd, Mr. Shailendra Bhatkande, Managing Partner, Cardolite Speciality Chemicals India LLP, Dr. Lakshmi Nadkarni, Director & Head HR, BASF, South Asia, Mr. Suresh P, Chairman - NIPM, Chief Manager HR, MCF, Dr. Devaraj K, Organising Committee, Director, SDM PG Centre, Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal and Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Department Business Management.

Mr. Suresh P welcomed the gathering and gave a brief history of NIPM. He also emphasised that the purpose of NIPM was to provide platform to HR Practitioners to reorient themselves to dynamic business world and to become change agent for continuous development of the organization. Dr. Devaraj K briefed the audience on the basic premise behind convening the conference. He mentioned that NIPM always upholds in bringing up the future torch-bearer of HR professions and believes in training them for accustoming changing business needs.

Dr. Vishal Samartha briefed the audience on the growth story of our institute. She stressed on prominent areas of the institute which made it very distinct from other colleges in the district.

Dr. Prabhakar Rao, Director - Works, MCF in his inaugural address mentioned that - Human resource function has seen a vast change in approach as well as domain. It was viewed as mere industrial relation manager two decades earlier and now has seen a transformation as “Enterprise Manager”. HR practitioners have a challenging role of dealing with complex areas like Customer, Communication, Cost and Capital and they must work with efficiency to make sure the Organization Goals are achieved without any compromise.

Dr. Umesh M Bhushi expressed his happiness on the conduct of the event and highlighted the importance of enjoying their work which would help in building commitment and make employees happier. He congratulated the organisers for their efforts in putting up the conference in such a big magnitude.

He was extremely happy with the Infrastructure at Sahyadri and said that it reminded him the structure at IIM, Allahabad. He congratulated the organisers for their efforts and said that the intent of the conference is commendable. In his speech he stressed on working on the employability aspects of future generation and conveyed his concern on the deterioration of the same. He said we all have to join hands in making the future generation more committed and employable.

K. Manjunath, Prof. of Humanities & Administrator. He also had an interactive session with the students from the Department of Computer Science, Information Science and Electronics & Communication. He shared his expertise with the faculty and the student fraternity.

Prof. M. Radhakrishna has a rich Research experience of more than 50 years and has travelled various countries such as SriLanka, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, South Korea, Japan, Sweden, UK, USA, Holland, PNG, Australia, Muscat to name a few, thus offering lecture, advice and consultancy. He has the credit of organizing 16 International conferences in the fields of Wireless computing and sensor networks, Science conclaves, Educational computing and others.

Inauguration-Ceremony-of-Mozilla-Club-organised-by-ISE-Department Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management is the Regional centre of Mozilla Club, hence the Inauguration Ceremony was held in Sahyadri Campus in the presence of Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, Prof. Balakrishna S S, Vice-Principal, Dr. J V Gorbal, Dean Academics, Mr. Sudheer Shetty, HoD, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Prof. Purushotham C T, HoD, Department of Civil Engineering and the continued support of Dr. A P Manu, HoD, ISE Department.

Prof. Prakhyath Rai, Faculty Co-ordinator, Mozilla Club shared the vision & goal, introduced the roles and responsibilities of the club members and also the future course of action of this club. A dedicated room for Mozilla Club activities has been allotted by Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation in appreciation to the ongoing activities of this club. The club has already indulged in conducting various events in Sahyadri Campus like MozCoffee Meet-Up etc. The Selected Executive Members include Roshini (IS), Anusha shetty (IS), Shruthi Ail (IS), Medhini (IS), Prathviraj (CS), Linford (CS), Vaishnav (CS), Jehad (CS), Savitha (EC). Special positions have also been given to Nilesh Kumar, Event Organizer, Ravi Yadav, Campus Club Captain, Manjesh Shetty, Regional co-ordinator.

Dr. Rashmi Kodikal along with eight student volunteers of the MBA Department administered the Written Quiz Round & the College Level Quiz Round as Quiz Masters, Time Keepers and Score Keepers. 4 teams emerged as winners and have been invited to participate in the “The Grand Finale - Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2017” on March 10th’17 in Sahyadri Campus.

Statistics at Nalanda College of Arts & Science, Perla Kasaragod, had registered for Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2017. Prof. Padmanabha B along with four student volunteers of the MBA Department administered the Written Quiz Round & the College Level Quiz Round as Quiz Masters, Time Keepers and Score Keepers. 8 teams were shortlisted post the Written Quiz and finally 4 teams emerged as winners and have been invited to participate in the “The Grand Finale - Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2017” on March 10th’17 in Sahyadri Campus. Prof. SHN Holla, Principal, Nalanda College of Arts & Science, Perla Kasaragod, distributed certificates to the winning teams.

Self-Development Programme facilitated by MBAs for Higher Primary students at Grama Panchayat Govt School

Self-Development-Programme-facilitated-by-MBAs-for-Higher-Primary-students-at-Grama-Panchayat-Govt-School-1 There is a famous Sanskrit Shloka which reads - “Vidya dadaati vinayam, vinayam dadaati paatrataam, paatratva dhanamaapnoti, dhanaat dharmam tatatsukham”. This means “True knowledge gives discipline, from discipline comes worthiness, from worthiness one gets wealth, from wealth one does good deeds which leads to happiness”. With this premise in mind, a team of MBA First year students conducted a training programme on “Self-Development” for Higher Primary students at Grama Panchayat Govt School, Pandeshwar, Mangaluru. This programme focussed on activity based learning which imparted hands on experience and invoked student’s creativity skills. Activities like “Passing the message”, “World Building”, “Goal Setting” and “tail on the cat” were conducted which emphasised on developing communication skills, self esteem and develop team participation. This initiative is conceived as a part of practical component of curriculum related to Human Resource Management and institutional corporate responsibility. MBA students were overwhelmed by the participation of innocent kids and were nostalgic about their own school days.

High School, Padil-2 A team of MBA first year students conducted a training programme on “Self-Development” for High School students of Adarsha Bharathi Government High School, Padil. Sahyadri MBA team guided the students on various streams which they can opt for after their SSLC and they were also guided on various career opportunities with respect to different sectors. In addition to this, Sahyadri MBA team conducted activity based sessions which imparted hands on experience and invoked student’s creativity skills.

Activities like “Paper crafts”, “Arranging Numbers”, “Fuzzy Duck, Ducky Fuzz”, ”Tom Dick & Harry” and Quiz were conducted which emphasised on developing communication, concentration and listening skills. Winners were awarded with Chocolates as prize which created a joyful ambience during the closure of the programme.

Sahyadri MBA team was requested to visit again and conduct these activities once a month in their school.

Kaynes Technology pooled campus recruitment drive

Mr. Rajesh, HR-Officer, Kaynes Technology accompanied by panellists on the recruitment team were at the campus to facilitate the entire recruitment process. Results are awaited.

Mr. Sonith Mendon, A National Level Athlete was the Chief Guest for the Inaugural Function. Meet started with the March-Past by the students. Ms. Anusha Hegde, Student Sports Coordinator welcomed the gathering. Chief Guest hoisted the flag and gave his inaugural address & declared the meet open. Prof. Balakrishna S S, Vice-Principal gave the presidential remarks. VTU Blues were awarded and Prizes were distributed to the March Past winners - 1st place I Section, 2nd place G section & the 3rd place A section and the consolation prize was give to J section.

1,500 Sahyadrians participate in NITTE Mangaluru Marathon

1,500-Sahyadrians-participate-in-NITTE-Mangaluru-Marathon-1 A wave of enthusiastic runners filled the streets of Mangaluru in the 10 km half marathon organised by NITTE University and Dakshina Kannada Athletics Association on Sunday, February 19th’17. Athletes Mr. Anil Shetty and Mr. Shridhar Alva served as the brand ambassadors for the mega event. Participation by over 15,000 enthusiasts is said to be new record for the city out of which 1,500 were Sahyadrians.

Prof. Richard Pinto was invited to deliver a lecture at IIT, Madras

Prof. Richard Pinto was invited to deliver a lecture at IIT, Madras Prof. Richard Pinto was invited to deliver a lecture at IIT Madras specifically to present his experience in the creation of IIT Bombay Nanofabrication facilities.

During his talk, Prof. Pinto stated that the first major grant of Rs. 100 crores was awarded by DietY, Govt. of India in 2006, jointly to IITB Mumbai and IISc Bangalore to setup India’s first major Nano-electronics facilities. While IIT Bombay concentrated on advanced device-centric approach, IISc, Bangalore focused on advanced material-centric approach with a healthy overlap between the two institutions. Prof. Pinto also stated that he was fortunate to be a member of the faculty at IITB and played a key role in setting up the Rs. 200 crore national facility which is now known as IITB-NF. He also said that he was a part of the team who conceived the highly successful Indian Nano-electronics Users Program (INUP) by which many institutes in the country including Sahyadri have benefited.

Prof. Pinto also led a team from Sahyadri and MIT, Manipal for collaborative work with Material Science Research Center (MSRC), IIT Madras. The team had a fruitful discussion with Prof. M S Ramachandra Rao, Chairman of Physics Department and senior faculty associated with MSRC, IIT Madras, who has agreed to collaborate in many areas including Solar cells and Gas sensors, with Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and MIT, Manipal. Prof. Rao is also an advisor for SRM University, Tamil Nadu, which is a private university with a vision and mission to raise the level of the university to that of IITs.

Research Paper published in International Journal

Dr. Manjappa Sarathi (Director Research & Consultancy)’s PhD student who is currently pursuing his PhD at BMS College of Engineering, Bengaluru under TECQUIP-2 fellowship has published a Research paper titled “Electrochemical detection of nitrite using glassy carbon electrode modified with silver nanospheres (AgNS) obtained by green synthesis using pre-hydrolysed liquor” in an International Journal – “Electroanalysis”. Orientation session to Mechanical Engineering students by Col. Prashant Petkar

Self-Development-Programme-facilitated-by-MBAs-for-Higher-Primary-students-at-Grama-Panchayat-Govt-School-1 Col. Prashant Petkar, Director, Army Recruiting Office at Mangaluru visited Sahyadri and addressed the students of Mechanical Engineering.

He gave an overview of the Indian Army and its contribution to the nation. He called upon the students to join the Indian Army if they have passion for the same. The orientation session was regarding the Technical entry to the Indian army. He explained the primary as well the secondary role of the army officer, life in the army, the selection process and the training that one undergoes.

FACE pooled campus recruitment drive

Prof. Richard Pinto was invited to deliver a lecture at IIT, Madras Focus Academy for Career Enhancement (FACE) conducted the pooled campus recruitment drive for engineering students of 2017 batch at Sahyadri campus. Two hundred students from pool colleges were part of the recruitment process, out of which forty two students have been shortlisted for the final round of selection. Mr. Dilip Raj, Head-Training, FACE was at the campus to facilitate the entire recruitment process.

She gave her insights on the training conducted in the organisation and also stressed on the importance of core subjects and severity level of attending the training sessions organised by the organisation.
