Dr. Raghunandan, District Surgeon, McGann Hospital, visited Sahyadri Sahyadri is graced by the visit of Dr. Raghunandan, a renowned District Surgeon from McGann Hospital, Shimoga. McGann Hospital is government run hospital and part of the Shimoga Institute of Medical Sciences. It is named after a famous surgeon from the UK named T.G. McGann. As a district surgeon, Dr. Raghunandan’s duties involve providing guidance to officers and health institution staff under the District Medical and Health Office; and liaising with other district as well as higher authorities in health aspects.

Visitors to Sahyadri have always come from different fields. Sahyadri has hosted educationists, businessmen, politicians and also doctors in the past. And as is customary the guests have been received at the campus with warmth and cordiality.

Dr. Raghunandan having received a similar welcome had a fruitful interaction with the chairman and management. The chairman accompanied Dr. Raghunandan around the campus and talked to him about the campus’ biggest achievements and academic accomplishments.

Dr. Raghunandan visited various departments, labs, innovation centres and start-ups. He had deep admiration for the student-centric initiatives undertaken by the college. Further, he was impressed with the robust infrastructure and said it is praiseworthy. He lauded the chairman for the unique education system established at Sahyadri.

IoT Challenge 2019 at Sahyadri

IoT Challenge 2019 at SahyadriIoT Challenge 2019 at Sahyadri IOT Challenge 2019, a Workshop organised by the Department of Information Science and Engineering continued through Sunday with furthermore hands-on sessions on projects related to IoT.

The Hackathon session conducted has qualified the participants for the prelims of ‘Radiance’ IIT Bombay which will be conducted from 16-17 March, 2019. Five teams of 20 participants were selected for IIT Bombay finals out of which 8 are from Sahyadri.

The teams comprised of participants from Sahyadri, NITK – Surathkal, Srinivas College – Valachil, PESITM - Shimoga, Dayanand Sagar University and Presidency University of Bangalore.

VTU Inter collegiate Cross Country competition resultsVTU Inter collegiate Cross Country competition results Sahyadri team comprising both of boys and girls participated in VTU Inter-collegiate State Level Cross Country Competition held in Anjuman Institute of Technology and Management, Bhatkal.

Sushma, a 8th Semester student of Electronics & Communication Engineering won 3rd Place in 10 kilometres Cross Country Race. While the Girls’ team won 1st Runner-up Trophy, the Boys’ team bagged the 4th place.

Sahyadri conducts IoT Challenge 2019 – HackathonSahyadri conducts IoT Challenge 2019 – Hackathon Hackathon was organised as a part of IoT Challenge 2019 to qualify the participants for the Prelims to be held during “RADIANCE 2019” - Annual Research and Technical Symposium of Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Bombay, which will be from 16-17 March, 2019. Six teams of 110 participants were selected for the finals. Out of these, 12 are engineering students from Sahyadri namely Nihal N., Srithej Prasad, Sachin, Nitesh, Nirmal Mathew, Dimple Shetty, Sushiksha, Aananya Bangera, Vrashank Rao, Vishwas Kamath, Vishnudas Nayak and Veneeth Rai. Other three teams were from NITK - Surathkal, PESITM - Shimoga, and Dayanand Sagar University - Bangalore.

The event was successfully organised with the help of coordinators Prakhyath Rai, Basavarajeshwari Ambi, Srujan U. and Mayur Pai.

JCI Sen. Soujanya Hegde conducts a Workshop – “Unleash the Real You” for the MBAs

Unleash the Real You Unleash the Real You JCI Sen. Soujanya Hegde, Mrs Popular – Mrs India Worldwide 2017, Administrative Head of Namma TV Channel, Managing Director of ‘Lets Party’ – A Complete Party Store, facilitated a workshop for the 1st year MBA students on “Unleash the Real You” focusing on Communication, Leadership, Creative Thinking and Power of Values. Her sessions were completely activity-based and more number of students had an opportunity to be on stage and present their views. She emphasised on ‘Look Good’, ‘Feel Good’ and ‘Do Good’ factors that contribute to the overall development of an individual. Soujanya encouraged students to form a Junior JCI group in the campus at college level and create a platform for MBAs and their juniors from the UG colleges for Self Development.

This workshop was organized to induce creative thinking and also to enhance leadership abilities of the Management students

Department of Computer Science & Engineering conducts technical talks  Department of Computer Science & Engineering conducts technical talks  Department of Computer Science & Engineering in association with CLOUDS, organized technical talks on “Security Challenges in Computer Architecture: Spectre and Meltdown” and “Recent Research Trends”. The first talk was delivered by Dr. Basavaraj Talawar, Assistant Professor, CSE department NITK. He gave brief explanation about the computer architecture and spectre and meltdown vulnerabilities in modern processors.

The second technical talk was delivered by Dr. Kiran M, Assistant Professor, IT Department NITK. He spoke about Blockchain and gave a brief introduction about its working and the applications. He also discussed the various innovations and research opportunities in Blockchain. The talks were very informative and were well accepted.

Unleash the Real You TCS TechBytes a campus outreach programme, is organized by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and The Board for IT Education Standards (BITES), in association with IT industries and educational institutions. The quiz strives to provide a better understanding of IT to students of all streams of engineering. The top 10 teams selected from Sahyadri alongside teams selected from different colleges in the regional Prelims, will participate in the Finals taking place at Sahyadri College on March 06, 2019. The entire event was managed and coordinated by the Department of Computer Science & Engineering.

Sahyadri students to participate in Smart India Hackathon (SIH)

Sahyadri students to participate in Smart India Hackathon (SIH) Innovation and entrepreneurship are at the peak in India. In order to make development a comprehensive mass movement and innovate on all fronts, MHRD, AICTE, i4c and Persistent Systems have come together to organise Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2019 - an unique Open Innovation Model for identifying new and disruptive technology innovations to solve the challenges faced in our country. It's a non-stop product development competition, where problem statements are posed to technology students for innovative solutions.

In the first round, more than 95 teams participated, out of which two were selected. Under AICTE Organisation Team DSOSC, Basavarajeshwari Ambi, Shashank S., Akashdeep Bhagat, Afroz Hussain, Nathaniel Ryan and Muhammad Bilal along with mentors Musthaq Ahmeed and Rumaan Kalander under the guidance Mr. Prashant Duddela (College SPOC), are participating in the Grand Finale to be held at Lovely Professional University Punjab from 2-3 March, 2019.

SIH is the world’s largest Hackathon which is for 36 hours.

Caliper inducted in “Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers”

Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers Caliper was recently approved by Defence through Ordinance Factory Board to supply components and assemblies to the Defence. On that basis, Caliper is now included in the prestigious “Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers”. This will facilitate them to get connected with global defence factories for business. Yet another milestone mark is reached by Caliper on its journey to excel as ‘niche’ product supplier.

Campus Recruitment Drive - Kreatio Software Kreatio Software conducted a Two-Day Pool Campus Recruitment Drive at Sahyadri for B.E / B.Tech & MBA students of 2019 outgoing batch. A four member team comprising of Mr. Venu Somaiah, HR Manager; Mr. Krishna Kumar – CEO; Mr. Raghavendra V, Team Lead and Mr. Arun Varghese, Technical Manager were at the campus to facilitate the process. Above 600 students from various colleges participated in the drive. The results are awaited.

Unleash the Real You FACE conducted a Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for the 2018 passed out batch as well as 2019 outgoing batch of engineering students from all branches. Mr. Ram Kumar of FACE was at the campus to facilitate the entire process. A total of 385 students from various colleges participated in the drive. The results are awaited.

Sahyadri Whiz Quiz Prelims at various Degree Colleges A total of 219 students in teams of 3 each participated in the Prelims of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz that was held at Field Marshal KM Cariappa Memorial College, Madikeri, Coorg. Eight teams emerged as winners and have been invited to participate in the Grand Finale of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2019 which would be held in Sahyadri Campus on March 8th’19. Final Year MBA students along with Prof. Padmanabha B and Prof. Ankith Kumar, Dept. of Business Administration-MBA facilitated the Quiz.

Sahyadri Whiz Quiz Prelims at various Degree Colleges 70 Students of B.Com and BA (Management) course participated in the event. Four teams were selected for the Grand Finale to be held at Sahyadri Campus. Prof. Samuel K Samuel, Principal distributed the prizes and appreciated Sahyadri for conducting this event and requested to organize this every year at their campus. He also expressed that he would like to get his students for visit to Industries at Sahyadri. Prof. Ramesh K G and Prof. Girish M coordinated this event and assured Sahyadri’s support to the students.

Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2019 - Prelims at various Colleges Around 300 students of B.Com and BBA participated in Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2019 Prelims held at Bhandarkars' Arts and Science College, Kundapura. Twelve teams emerged as winners and have been slated for participation in the Grand Finale which would be held in Sahyadri Campus on March 8th 2019.
