Three-day Workshop on `Leadership for Excellence’ inaugurated in the Campus
A three-day workshop on `Leadership for Excellence’, from International Academy for Competency Enhancement (IACE), was inaugurated in the Campus. Dr. K. Balveer Reddy, former Vice-Chancellor, VTU and Dr. D. Vasudev Naidu, senior leadership training professional and motivational speaker were the key resource persons for the programme.
The topics on day-one of the workshop were, Introduction to Strategic Leadership, Importance and Approaches, Strategic Framework for Educational Institutions, Transactional Analysis in Leadership Effectiveness, and Change Leadership. The Principal, the Deans and the HoDs of various departments were the participants of the workshop.
The second day of the workshop covered topics such as Balanced Score Card Approaches in an Educational Institution, Developing Institutional Strategic Goals, Strategies and Sub-Strategies for Institutional Strategic Goals.
The Chairman addressed the participants and shared his views and appraised how this institution evolved with the help of Dr. Balveera Reddy, former Vice- Chancellor of VTU.
Dr. D. L. Prabhakara, Director of Sahyadri Group of institutions was also present during the workshop along with the Principal, the Deans and the HoDs of the various departments.
 On the third and closing day of the workshop the topics covered were, Developing Institutional Strategic Goals, Departmental Goals (long, mid and short term strategies), and Sub-Strategies for Institutional Strategic Goals.
Dr. K. Balveer Reddy and Dr. D. Vasudev Naidu, motivated the participants to prepare sub- strategies for all the goals and the HoDs presented the vision and mission statements of their respective departments. The participants shared their experience of the three-day workshop.

HR Training for Semester V students conducted in the Campus
The five-day HR Training for Semester V students was conducted by J.V. Global, Bangalore in the Campus. 214 students of all branches of Engineering eagerly participated in the HR training. During the formal inaugural function, the Principal evoked consciousness among students as he opined that the training would be the trigger for a life-time effort in their respective careers.
Prof. M. N. Nayak, Administrator, vividly highlighted the necessity to inculcate professionalism which would be the slim difference between success and defeat. The day marked an inspirational session by Mr. Dinesh A.U., D.G.M.- HR of Rittal India Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore. He demonstrated to students in simple terms, “What challenges lie ahead for freshers in the industry, and how to overcome them.” The session was thought-provoking and insightful.
Mrs. Ivy Saldanha of Actuant Corporation, Bangalore was the guest speaker for day two. Her session on, “Real-time experience of H.R’s while interviewing freshers”, was thoughtfully received by the young audience and provided them new avenues to make wise choices in their careers.
Students Celebrate New Year
As a part of the HR Training for Semester V Students, the training team from J.V Global directed the New Year celebrations with great fervor. The two-hour long spree contained ample dance, music, singing and amusement acts. The Principal, Administrator, Assistant Administrative Officer, faculty members and the students savored the melodious entertainment and participated in the New Year joy. Training sessions continued in the later part of the day.

Mrs. Vishal Samartha successfully defends her research thesis
Mrs. Vishal Samartha, Assistant Professor-SG, Department of Business Administration, has successfully defended her research thesis titled, `Impact and Intricacies of Occupational Stress on Employees in the Banking Sector- A Study in Dakshina Kannada District’, for her doctoral degree, under Dr. Mustiary Begum, Professor, Department of Business Administration, Mangalore University.
Mrs. Vishal Samartha, has done B.B.M., M.Com., M.Phil, SLET, and her Masters in Human Resource Management from University of Pondichery. With sixteen years of experience in various capacities in leading business schools in Mangalore, she has to her credit many publications in national and international journals and has presented several research papers in national conferences. She has coordinated many national level conferences and management fests and has attended many faculty development programs and workshops.

 Mr. Navin N. Bappalige, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, presented a research paper titled, `Crystal Growth Simulations, Mathematical Models and Manifestations’, in the two-day National Conference on Condensed Matter Physics and Applications ‘CMPA- 2013’, held at Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal University, Manipal.
