Leadership and Skill Development Workshop at Shimoga

A one-day workshop on Leadership and Skill Development was organized for Data Entry Operators of 265 Grama Panchayats of Shimoga district, under the guidance of Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, President, Bhandary Foundation, in association with Hosabelaku Charitable Trust.

Dr. Manjunath Bhandary explained the main theme of the programme which aimed to develop skill in the youth of Shimoga rural area; to be social, economical and political leaders. The programme was inaugurated by Sri Oscar Fernandes, Hon’ble Union Minister for Transport, Road and Highways, Govt. of India. Sri. Oscar Fernandes, in his inaugural speech, spoke on the importance of knowledge and technology.

Eminent persons like Mr. Kagodu Thimmappa, Hon’ble Speaker, Govt.of Karnataka, Mr. Kimmane Rathnakar, Hon’ble Minister of Education, Govt. of Karnataka, Mr. Praveen Chakravarthy, Advisor to NSDC, New Delhi, spoke on the occasion. Other important resource persons were Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Mr. Chethan Ram, International Trainer, Mrs. Sindhu Girish, HR Manager, Rural Shores, Bangalore, Mr. Rajesh Bhat, CEO, Head Held High, Bangalore, and Mr. Narendra Swami, MLA, Malvalli, Mandya .

The workshop commenced with the “Leadership and Motivational Speech” by Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management.

Mr. Chethan Ram, International Trainer, spoke on “Leadership and Personality Development.” His enthusiastic and dynamic approach helped the participants to awaken the spirit of leadership.

Mrs. Sindhu Girish, HR Manager, Rural Shores, highlighted on skill enhancement and gave information regarding BPO, KPO Services in the rural areas.


Mr. Rajesh Bhat, CEO, Head Held High, spoke about the transformation of employment from urban to rural area and inspired the youth with live examples.

The workshop ended with a panel discussion, question and answer session and participants shared their experience and appreciated the efforts of Dr. Manjunath Bhandary.

Ashwitha Shetty with 80.1% has topped the Sahyadri College in the MCA, Semester III Examination of 2013-14 held by VTU. Junaid K. A. obtained the second position in the college with 79.14% while Rakshita with 77.05% stands third. Out of thirty-three students who sat for the examination, twenty-one secured a first class with distinction and twelve secured a first class, bringing the overall percentage score of the department to 100%.

Arpitha K. M. with 82.48% has topped the Sahyadri College in the MCA, Semester V Examination of 2013-14 held by VTU. Pramod Kumar obtained the second position in the college with 79.43% while Divyashree N. with 78.95% stands third. Out of forty-nine students who sat for the examination, thirty-two secured a first class with distinction and thirteen secured a first class, bringing the overall percentage score of the department to 91.84%.

ISpan Systems recruits Sahyadrians

Mr. Karthik Kamath G. and Ms. Thushina Shetty, final year students of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, were selected by ISpan Systems, Bangalore, for the position of Web Developers, in the recruitment drive conducted in the Campus. They successfully cleared the Aptitude, Technical and H.R. interview rounds in the selection process.

Mr. M. Mohan Kuma, Business Development Manager, Mr. Shanth Kumar, Software Engineer and Mr. Sandesh Gujaran, HR Officer of ISpan undertook the recruitment process. At the pre-placement talk, Mr. Mohan emphasized the company's search for 'originality' rather than just plain text-book knowledge.


P. U. students emerge runners-up at
“Kala Avishkar 2014”

Students of Sahyadri P. U. College won the Over-all Runners-Up Prize at “Kala Avishkar 2014”, an Inter – Collegiate Cultural Competition organized by the Department of Commerce, Srinivas Institute of Management Studies, Pandeshwar, Mangalore. The students won the First prize in Mime and the Second prize in Dance (Solo and Group).

2) Solo Dance – II Prize: Akash
