Sahyadri Celebrates Republic Day

The 66th Republic Day was celebrated in the Campus. Mr. Vasudev Kamath a B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from REC, Calicut, and now the Associate Vice- President, Unit Risk Manager, Infosys Limited, hoisted the flag., Mr. Kamath has been with Infosys for nearly 19 years, worked for Marquee clients based in US and is responsible for risks arising from projects being delivered for nearly 50% of Infosys revenue.

In his address, he called upon the staff members to inspire the students to achieve success by quoting the example of Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft. He also emphasized that the students should be problem finders instead of just problem solvers.


Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman and Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal were also present on the occasion.

After the flag hoisting, Staff Sports Day was held - organized by the Department of Physical Education. Prof. Umashankar B. S., Dean Academic and Prof. Sudheer Shetty, HoD, Department of Computer Science & Engineering gave away the prizes for the winners of the various events.

Research workshop for doctoral candidates organized by the Karnataka Govt. Research Center

The Karnataka Government Research Center conducted a research workshop titled "Research Workshop for Doctoral Candidates" in the Campus.

The Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University, Prof. K. Byrappa, was the Chief Guest for the inaugural programme. In his keynote address he explained the importance of research and shared his experience. He stressed the importance of interdisciplinary research citing his research experience as an example. He also appreciated the vision of Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman to make Sahyadri a research and innovation-driven educational institution.

The Guest of Honor, Prof. Richard Pinto, IITB, Center for Excellence in Nanotechnology gave an overview about evolution of science from ancient Greek days. Prof. B. N. Karkera explained some of his exhaustive research work in BARC. Dr. Umesh. M. Bhushi, Principal gave the presidential remarks and the vote of thanks.

A crash course on Time and Energy Management in Academia was delivered by Dr. Gautham Jeppu from the research center. Dr. Manjappa, Director Research & Consultancy gave a motivational talk to faculty and shared some of his experiences on how he built a research center in the 1990s when undergraduate colleges were not allowed to carry out research or guide PhD candidates. Dr. Jayarama, Dr. Manu and Dr. Mariadas shared their experiences and guided the participants. The workshop concluded with a question and answer session.

Dr. C. Ranganathaiah Contributes a Chapter for a Book Published by Wiley Publishers

Dr. C. Ranganathaiah, Director of Research has contributed a Chapter to the book titled “Characterization of Polymer Blends, Miscibility, Morphology and Interfaces” edited by Thomas et.al and published by well known Wiley Publishers. Chapter 27 with the title “Positron Annihilation Spectroscopy: Polymer Blends and Miscibility” pp 877-921 introduces his new method of measuring polymer miscibility level. Extensive literature survey is included in this work and hence the chapter serves as a reference material for researchers and scientists working in the area of polymer blends. The book has been published in two volumes in Oct 2014 with ISBN: 978-3-527-33153-6 and spread over 994 printed pages priced at USD 405 for hardcover bound volumes.

Faculty Member Invited as Judge

Mrs. Divya Prabhu, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration, was invited to judge several rounds of the Finance event in SYNERGY 2015; a National Level Management Fest organised by SDM College of Business Management, Mangalore. The event saw about thirteen colleges from Mangalore and Bangalore taking part in the various events organised by SDM College.

        

Mr. Rahul Kharge Visits Sahyadri

Mr. Rahul Kharge, son of Sri. Mallikarjun Kharge, former Minister of Railways and a well-wisher of Sahyadri visited the Campus along with his family. He completed his research from Indian Institute of Science and cleared the UPSC examination and was selected for the Indian Revenue Service. After the completion of training he resigned from the service as he found that the job did not suit his personality. Currently, he is an advisor for IT companies. He and his wife Arundhati Kharge, an Electrical Engineer from BMS appreciated the ambience and infrastructure of the College.

VTU M.Tech. Semester III Results

The VTU results of Semester III M.Tech of all streams are declared. Computer Science & Engineering (SCS-CS) and Machine Design (MMD-ME) has obtained 100%, Computer Aided Design of Structures (Ccs), Structural Engineering (CSE) and VLSI Design & Embedded Systems (LVS-EC) has obtained 95.2%, 90.9% and 75%, respectively.

GATE-2015 Institute Representatives (IR) at Sahyadri

Prof. Soumyendu Raha, Associate Professor and Dr. R. Venkatesh Babu, Assistant Professor in Supercomputer Education and Research Centre (SERC), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, visited the Campus to interact with the staff about GATE-2015 which is an all-India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Science. They discussed about the responsibilities of faculties during invigilation and gave a mock test of the conduction of the examination for the better understanding of it.

GATE-2015 in Sahyadri

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management in association with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc), Bangalore, conducted the first phase of the computer-based test for the All-India Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE-2015). A total of 400 candidates from all over the country sat for the examination for various streams like Electronics, Mechanical, Civil, Aeronautical, Chemical, Architecture, Biotechnology, Mining, Agricultural, Metallurgical, Pharmaceutical Engineering, etc.

GATE is an all-India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science. The GATE score of a candidate reflects the relative performance level of a candidate. The score is used for admissions to various post-graduate programs (e.g. Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, and Doctor of Philosophy) in Indian higher education institutes, with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other government agencies. Recently, GATE scores are also being used by several Indian public sector undertakings (i.e., government-owned companies) for recruiting graduate engineers in entry-level positions. It is one of the most competitive examinations in India.

Good Through Solutions Holds First Round of Recruitment Process

In the first round of their recruitment process, Good Through Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore; a software product development and services company conducted an online test for final year students of all branches of B.E. and MCA. Around one hundred students took the online test. The results are awaited.
