Chairman as Guest of Honour at Annual Day Celebrations

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, was invited as the Guest of Honour for the Annual Day Celebrations of Shubhodaya Vidyalaya, Mangaluru held at their premises. Mrs. Prasanna Bhandary, Secretary, Bhandary Foundation was also present on the occasion.

Addressing the students on the occasion, he said that it is the parents who play a vital role in the education of their child. He stressed on the importance of skill development and personality development which he said must be incorporated right from childhood.

He appreciated the good work of Prof. M. B. Puranik, President, Sharada Educational Institutions for having created an ambience of learning for the students.

Nalin Kumar Kateel MP & Team Visit Sahyadri

Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament, Dakshina Kannada Constituency and team, along with Rajesh Naik, owner of Oddor Farms, Rajkumar Srivastava, Managing Director, KEONICS and Manish Kumar, CEO, Rooman Technologies visited Sahyadri.

The team briefed about the National Skill Development Corporation programme and discussed about conducting a job fair in the campus with Sahyadri selected as the venue to hold the event.

Valedictory of the Fourteen-day Civil Engineering Survey Camp

Mr. Udaya Naik, Superintendent Engineer of the Varahi underground power plant, Hosangadi, was the chief guest of the valedictory function to mark the close of the fourteen-day survey camp for the students of the Department of Civil Engineering. Mr. Kadri Satish Shetty, Gram Panchayat member, Director of CA Bank, Siddapur and Mr. Prameeth BS, Assistant Executive Engineer, Karnataka Neeravari Nigama Ltd, Varahi Subdivision, Siddapur, were the special invitees on the occasion.

Prof. Umashankar B.S., Dean Academics and Prof Umesh S. S., HOD, Department of Civil Engineering addressed the students and congratulated them for successfully completing the survey camp. Prof Balakrishna S. S., Vice Principal, presided over the function.

Earlier in the week, 135 students of Semester VI, Department of Civil Engineering along with faculty members visited the Shyamili Hydro Power Plant; a 12 MW hydro power generation plant at Siddapur. Mr. Prasanna Shet, Mrs. Anoosha N and Mr. Kiran Padti, Assistant Engineers, Karnataka Neeravari Nigama Ltd, Varahi Subdivision, Siddapur, accompanied the students. Students interacted with the engineers regarding turbine, weir, canal water discharge, capacity of weir etc.

News From the Department of Mathematics

Dr. Antony Mariadoss, Adjunct Faculty, Department of Mathematics, was invited to give the keynote address on “Road map for Future Research Activities” in the three-day Faculty Development Programme on Research Methodology for Computer Science and Bioinformatics organized by the School of Information Technology & Bioinformatics, AIMIT, St. Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangalore, supported by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi.

The entire faculty staff of the Department of Mathematics visited “MATHS WORLD;” a laboratory where Mathematics is taught to the students using various mathematical models at Government High School, Nada, Belthangady, as part of the Facutly Development Programme. They use IRIS technology to teach Mathematics instead of chalk and blackboard.

Students of this school enjoy Mathematics and find it one of the easiest subjects to learn. This lab is set up by Mr. Yakub S, Mathematics teacher of Government High School, Belthangady.

Mrs Suchetha, Mrs Aysha Shabana and Ms Savita N Bhat, Assistant Professors, Department of Mathematics attended a two-day National Conference on Mathematics and its Applications, “NCMA-2015”, organized by Adichunchanagiri Institute of Technology, Chikmagalur.

The main aim of the conference was to cover all areas of mathematics with emphasis on its applications in engneering, technology as well as in Mathematics. The eminent experts from various academic and research organizations were Prof S Hiriyanna, ISRO, Bangalore, Prof Shobha Bagai, Delhi University, Delhi, Prof A Kandaswamy, NITK, Surathkal, Prof C R Pradeep, CIT, Gubbi and Prof K Manjunath Prasad, Manipal University, Manipal.

Mrs. Sunita Priya D’Silva, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, has enrolled for a Ph.D. Program under the guidance of Dr. Lolita Priya Castelino, HOD, Department of Mathematics, Maduva Vadiraja Institute of Technology, Udupi. Her research title is “Difference Labelling Graph” in Graph Theory.

Mr. Deepak P. Naik, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics has enrolled for a Ph.D. Program under the guidance of Dr. G. S. Prasad, HOD, Department of Mathematics, RajaRajeswari College of Engineering, Bangalore. His research title is “Unsteady boundary layer flow of a Non-Newtonian fluid over linear and Non-Linear stretching sheets” in Fluid Dynamics.


Faculty Member Conducts Special Session at International Conference

Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering was selected to conduct the special session entitled "Intelligent Soft Computing For Pattern Recognition And Medical Imaging Applications" at the Fifth International Springer Conference on Soft Computing for Problem Solving (SocProS 2015) held at IIT, Roorkee, Saharanpur Campus.

Faculty Members Paper Published at IMCIC-2016, USA

A research paper entitled "A Novel Approach for Performance Improvement in Parallel Processing" by Dr. Ananth Prabhu, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering has been published in the pre-conference proceedings of the Special Session "Frontiers in Development of Intelligent Applications for Medical Image Processing, Computer Vision and Soft Computing" at the 7th International Multi-Conference on Complexity, Informatics and Cybernetics (IMCIC-2016), Orlando, Florida, USA.

This Special Session is organized by Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. The purpose of IMCIC is to bring together scholars and professionals from the three fields, Complexity, Informatics and Cybernetics, in order to promote and foster inter-disciplinary communication and interactions among them; in order to make possible the intellectual humus required for inter-disciplinary synergies, inter-domain cross-fertilization and the production of creative analogies. Faculty Member Invited as a Resource Person

Mr. Girish Hegde, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, was invited as a resource person for the student training program on Hydraulics and Pneumatics, Maharaja Institute of Engineering & Technology, Mysuru. The sessions conducted included topics like hydraulic and pneumatic pressure valves, control valves, pressure regulators, flow control valves, etc.

Faculty Members on Five-Day Training Programme at JSW

Dr. Rathishchandra Gatti, Mr. Mahadev, Mr. Shivakumar, Mr. Rakshith, Ms. Ramyashree and Ms. Impha Y.D, faculty members of the Department of Mechanical Engineering are presently at the JSW steel plant in Bellary to undergo a five- day training programme to understand the complete process of steel manufacturing. Their training began by witnessing the steel process at the pellet plant, sintering plant and sample testing lab.
