Chairman & Sahyadri Team Attend EDGE Workshop

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, accompanied by Ms. Deeksha Bhandari, Mr. Ramesh K. G., Associate Professor, Department of Business Administration and Prof. Rashmi Bhandary, Head–Department of Placement attended the EDGE Workshop by KNOLSKAPE at Bangalore which introduced them to experiential learning.

KNOLSKAPE, one of the top 20 Gamification companies in the world has brought its popular Gamification Workshop for business professionals to Bangalore for the third time. EDGE by KNOLSKAPE is a full-day comprehensive workshop designed for Senior Business Leaders, HR Leaders and L&D Professionals, who are preparing for or are currently engaged in strategic planning. This workshop intends to help participants build engaging and practical learning development plans for their organization’s needs. Understanding adaptive leadership was the prime focus of the workshop. The program was experiential and practical, not just conceptual. The curriculum emphasized proven learning solutions to increase core competencies from on-boarding to leadership and talent management.

Improve Teaching Methodologies: Chairman Addresses Faculty Members

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, addressed the faculty members of the first year students and shared his thoughts on improving teaching methodologies. He inspired all the faculty members to motivate the students of the first year and help them to develop interest in their curricula. During his address he emphasised on interactive classroom sessions, personality development and soft skills that should be inculcated in the teaching methodology. He encouraged the faculty members to visit industries often which would help enlighten students to understand the industry–corporate culture. He further stressed on the aspects of faculty grooming.

Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, concluded by saying that being dynamic is the need of the hour. He said it is important to be recognized as a teacher rather than as a faculty.

Bridge Course for New Entrants Concludes

The valedictory of the Bridge Course -2015 was held at Shambhavi hall in the Campus. Prof. Sudheer Shetty, Head, Department of Computer Science & Engineering welcomed the gathering.

The chief guest of the ceremony, Mr. Vidyaranya Kollipal, Senior Manager, Human Resource, Mphasis Limited, addressed the freshers and encouraged them to seek competency in the corporate sector. He congratulated the students for being a part of the Bridge Course and wished them well in their pursuit of study. He concluded his words with a profound message, “Carry the spirit of learning, continue the spirit of learning, be enthusiastic and develop overall personality.” The chief guest of the day was also highly impressed by the ambience of the Campus.

Prof. Umashankar, Dean Academic, spoke on the occasion and mentioned the choice-based credit system. Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, delivered the presidential address. Mrs. Shreelatha, Academic Administrative Officer proposed the vote of thanks. The students expressed their feedback on the three-week Bridge Course. The formal ceremony was followed by a cultural programme by the students. The HoDs of the various departments, teaching and non-teaching staff were a part of the programme.

SSTH Team on Second Visit to PU Colleges

The Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt team of the college went on their second visit to Sharada and Expert PU colleges in the city. Mrs. Sadhana, Ms. Shetty Mamatha Gopal, Assistant Professors, Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Ms. Megha, Ms. Reshma, Assistant Professors, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering and Ms. Achala, Mr. Sujay, Mr. Navajith, Mr. Akif, Ms. Shreya, Mr. Nilesh and Mr. John, the students of the college demonstrated the Dancing Humanoid, Quadcopter and All Terrain vehicle in each of these colleges.

The SSTH team of the college also paid a second visit to MPMES, and PACE PU colleges in Bhadravathi and Shivamogga, respectively. Mr. Sunil B. N., Mr. Madesha M, Assistant Professors, Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Mr. Janardhana D. R., Assistant Professor, Department of Information Science & Engineering, Prof. Sudheer Shetty, HOD, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Mr. Prasad Chandran, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Mr. Nishan Kumar, Mr. Jagath, Mr. Srijan, Mr. Tharanath and Mr. Raja Gokul, the students of the college demonstrated the Dancing Humanoid, Quadcopter and All Terrain vehicle in each of these colleges. Several students in each of these colleges interacted with great enthusiasm and expressed their interest to participate in the upcoming SSTH events.

Faculty Development Programme “Feel Teacher – Freedom & Punishment” Concludes

The three-day faculty development programme “Feel Teacher – Freedom & Punishment” concluded in the Campus. Several aspects such as skills development, conceptual way of learning, competition and quality, self-discovery, freedom and social compromises were covered in this programme. Prof. Sunney Tharappan, Director, CLHRD, was the main resource person. Prof. Subrahmanya and Prof. Anila Kamath were the other resource persons.

Chairman Interacts with the Bridge Course Students

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, interacted with the students of the Bridge Course. He narrated as to how the Bridge Course has evolved over the years in Sahyadri to the current scenario. He highlighted that the Bridge Course is an opportunity given to them to initiate them into leadership and march towards a vibrant future.

He thereby explained how aptitude and value added courses come to aid in the stream of engineering. He encouraged students to take up projects and was a source of motivation in the upcoming activities of the college. The Chairman requested the students to document the 18 days bridge course experience and share it with those who failed to get an opportunity to attend the Bridge Course. He urged the students to grab the opportunities available for internships in industries and gain experiential knowledge.

Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi as Resource Person

Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, was the resource person for the Faculty Orientation Workshop at VTU Regional Centre, Mysuru. He addressed the participants on the topic “Professionalism in Teaching.” He also participated in the SAMVAAD / OPEN HOUSE to share his ideas on “Are teachers born or made?”

Dr. Manjappa Sarathi Invited as Resource Person by Kuvempu University

Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director of Research and Consultancy at Sahyadri Research Center was invited as the resource person for the national seminar on `Recent Trends in Environmental Science’ by the Department of PG Studies and Research in Environmental Science, Kuvempu University, Shivamogga.

Alumnus Akshath Hegde Vists his Alma Mater

Mr. Akshath Hegde, an alumnus visited the college and interacted with the various professors and the staff of the college. Akshath Hegde is working with Tayana Software in Bangalore and it was a pleasure to interact with him during his visit. The faculty and the staff appreciated his gracious gesture.
