Sahyadri Team Visits Private University BVB college of Engineering, Hubli

The Chairman Shri.Manjunath Bhandary and the team from Sahyadri consisting of the Principal, Vice Principal, Dean Academics, Dean Planning and Development, Director Research & Consultancy, Co-ordinator SPSS, Prof.Ramesh and the ‘Dreamers’ visited KLE Society's B. V. Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering and Technology, a Private University from this year.

The intent of the visit was to ascertain a definite roadmap to move towards Autonomy. There were a series of Presentations on the “Success story of BVB College and the roadmap envisaged to reach this level”; the various industrial start ups established at the college, under the stewardship of a dynamic leader, the First Vice Chancellor Dr.Ashok Shettar, who will be mentoring Sahyadri in times to follow.

The Centre for Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CTIE), under the directorship of Prof. Nitin Kulkarni, is an approach to build the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the region with a vision to establish fifty startups on the BVB campus by December 2017 and offer 2000 jobs.

The Sahyadri team also visited the Centre for Engineering Education Research (CEER), which promotes innovation and research in Engineering Education. In this endeavor, B.V.B is going digital, towards a tabletized future using digital tablets in its teaching-learning process for the first year engineering students. Prof. Gopal Joshi is the present Director.

The Dreamers team interacted with the entrepreneurs of the startup companies.

Hewlett Packard Pooled Campus Recruitment Drive

The HR team of Hewlett Packard held a pooled campus recruitment drive for 460 students of various colleges from all over India. Twenty-two students have been selected by the company during the two-day recruitment drive.

The team was impressed with the entire ambience of the college. Ms. Raquel Gambian, Training Lead of the company engaged a one-hour session with the volunteers on communication skills. The session was insightful with topics on body language, phonetics, assertiveness, and presentation skills.

Sahyadri Hosts BOAT Apprentice-cum-Job Fair

Board of Apprenticeship Training (Sr), Chennai and Directorate of Technical Education, Bangalore, jointly with Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangalore, organised an Apprenticeship-Cum-Job Fair for the 2013, 2014 and 2015 passed out BE graduates and Diploma holders in all branches of engineering. A pre-placement talk for all the candidates was held in the Sahyadri auditorium.

In the inaugural session held in the College, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary the Chairman addressing the gathering said that students should make use of this opportunity to get practical knowledge rather than looking at the salary package.

Twenty-five leading industries from the private and public sector such as, Care IT Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Keihin Fie India Pvt. Ltd., Magna Infotech Limited, Manipal Group, Mecton Group, OMNiON - Global Media Solutions & Services, Rane Engine Valve Limited, Telenetix Private Limited, Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited, Winman Software (P) Ltd., SSS - (Stumpp, Schuele & Somappa), Wuerth Elektronik India Pvt. Ltd., BASF, Mangalore, Arvind Motors Pvt. Ltd. Mangalore, KSRTC, Railways, Data Science & Research Institute, to name a few, participated in the fair. Around 250 candidates in and around the Mangalore region attended the fair.

Through BOAT, one-year apprenticeship training is given with leading public and private sector organizations registered with BOAT at the end of which the candidate will receive a Government of India certification.

M.Tech. Students Paper Published in International Journal

Mr. Deekshith Shetty, student of M.Tech. (CADS) has his thesis “An approach on optimization of birth structure at port sectors for handling bulk cargo and containers” published in the International Journal Of Engineering Research & Technology (IJERT), July edition, Volume 4, 2015 under the guidance of Mr. Shashikanth P. Kodi, AEE, Civil Dept, NMPT, Mangalore and Mr. Umesh S.S., HOD, Department of Civil Engineering, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management.

Dr. Molly Chaudhuri Elected President of The Port Town Advanced Toastmasters Club


Dr Molly Chaudhuri, HoD, Department of Training, was elected President of The Port Town Advanced Toastmasters Club, Mangalore for the current year. Taking on the mantle of President, Dr. Chaudhuri adds a feather to the cap of Sahyadri. Being the Head of the Department of Training, she heads the Student Gavel Club of the Toastmasters in the Campus.

The Port Town Advanced Toastmasters Club is Mangalore's only club for advanced toastmasters, and only the second in the country, the other being in Delhi.

Sahyadri faculty visits Mangalore University

The Sahyadri Research team comprising of the departments of Electronics & Communication, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Science and Physics visited Mangalore University for the introductory meeting with their respective counterparts of the university. The visit was headed and organized by the Director-Research Prof. C Ranganathaiah. Eleven faculty members of the College; Mr. Steven L. Fernandes, Mr. Sharathchandra, Dr. Sarvesh Vishwakarma, Mrs. Sadhana, Dr. Rathishchandra R .Gatti, Dr. Tenzin Pasang, Mr. Sunil B .N., Dr. Naitik S.T., Mr. Hanumanthraya R., Mr. Ramakrishna, and Ms Ashutha K., participated in the meeting.

The three departments of Mangalore University (Electronics, Computer Science and Physics), were involved in the discussion. In his introductory address Prof. C Ranganathaiah stressed upon the importance of this meeting which was arranged to initiate the collaborative research between the two Institutions, leading to joint project proposals.

Respective Heads of Departments introduced their faculty with their research interest and ongoing research projects. Few of the research areas such as image processing, data mining, material science and nanocomposites were of common interest to both the institutes. The meeting was concluded with a pleasant note of promising collaborative research work.

Faculty Member Attends Summer Research Fellowship Programme

Mr. Manjunath Mulimani, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, participated in a two-month `Indian Science Academies ' Summer Research Fellowship Programme for Teachers-2015’ at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology(IIST), Thiruvananthapuram. He has successfully completed a project titled "Study of Sentiment Analysis and Opinion Mining using Machine Learning Techniques" under the guidance of Dr. Deepak Mishra, Associate Professor, Department of Avionics, IIST, Thiruvananthapuram.

The three Indian Science Academies offer two-month summer fellowships to enable teachers to work with scientists associated with the academies. Summer Fellowship Programme of two months is designed to enhance awareness and interest in high quality academic research among the junior faculties.

Sahyadri Pays Homage to APJ Abdul Kalam

The institute mourns the demise of Dr. Kalam by exalting the ‘People’s President’. The Principal of the college paid tribute to the former president by quoting Dr Kalam and thereby inspiring the staff. If you want to shine like the sun, first burn like the sun," says APJ Abdul Kalam in one of his inspirational speeches, which he certainly did and today the sun has set.

The management and the staff observed silence in memoriam of the late President.

Dr. Bhushi delivered a presentation on the late President on his motivational messages to the young people of India. He highlighted some of the popular messages of Sir APJ Abdul Kalam:
“We will be remembered only if we give to our younger generation a prosperous and safe India, resulting out of economic prosperity coupled with civilizational heritage.”

“Educationists should build the capacities of the spirit of inquiry, creativity, entrepreneurial and moral leadership among students and become their role model.”

“If a country is to be corruption free and become a nation of beautiful minds, I strongly feel there are three key societal members who can make a difference. They are the father, the mother and the teacher.”

Popularly known as the People’s President Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen "A. P. J." Abdul Kalam (15 October 1931 – 27 July 2015) was the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. A career scientist turned reluctant politician, Kalam was born and raised in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu and studied physics and aerospace engineering. He spent the next four decades as a scientist and science administrator, mainly at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and was intimately involved in India's civilian space program and military missile development efforts. Kalam was elected President of India in 2002. After serving a term of five years, he returned to his civilian life of education, writing and public service. SSTH second visit – Expert PU College & Vikas PU College, Mangaluru

SSTH pays a second visit to Expert PU College, Kodialbail and Vikas PU College, Mangaluru. Ms. Megha and Mrs. Deepthi, Assistant Professors, Department of Electronics & Engineering accompanied by a student team comprising of Mr. Gautham, Mr. Suraj, Mr. Nilesh, Mr. Akif and Mr. Sagar visited Expert P.U. College in the city.

Nearly 200 students enthusiastically interacted with the SSTH Team and showed great interest to participate in the upcoming SSTH events.

Mrs. Shruthi Ramdas, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Science & Engineering, Mrs. Mehanaz Begum, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering accompanied by a team comprising of Mr. John, Mr. Nikhil, Mr. Mohammad Akef, Mr. Itihas students of the college paid a second visit to Yenepoya PU College. The team demonstrated the Dancing Humanoid, Quadcopter and all Terrain vehicle. Nearly 100 students very enthusiastically interacted with SSTH Team and showed great interest to participate in the upcoming SSTH events.

The SSTH team visits the Government PU College, Bhadravathi, St. Charles PU College, Bhadravathi and Sri Aurobindo PU College, Shivamogga. Mr. Sunil B. N., Mr. Madesha M, Assistant Professors, Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Mr. Janardhana D. R., Assistant Professor, Department of Information Science & Engineering were accompanied by a team comprising of Mr. Nishan Kumar, Mr. Jagath and Mr. Srijan students of the college and demonstrated the Dancing Humanoid, Quadcopter and All Terrain vehicle. Nearly 300 students enthusiastically interacted with the SSTH Team and showed great interest to participate in the upcoming SSTH events.
