Director’s Daughter Dr. Pavithra Prabhakar receives The American National Award – “Young Investigator Award from the Office of Naval Research”

Dr. Pavithra Prabhakar, Kansas State University Computer Scientist has achieved the highest honour of receiving the American National Award – “Young Investigator Award from the Office of Naval Research”. She is one among the four American Indians and one among the 34 across the world to have received this award. She is the daughter of Dr. D L Prabhakara, Director, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management.

Dr. Pavithra Prabhakar was chosen for “Design of High-Assurance Cyber-Physical Systems” in the Science of Autonomy program and is an associate professor of computer science at Kansas State University. She is a Michelle Munson-Serban Simu Keystone Research Faculty Scholar and her research interests include cyber-physical systems, formal verification, automata theory and logic.

She has earned a bachelor’s degree from the National Institute of Technology Warangal, a master’s degree from the Indian Institute of Science and a doctorate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Pavithra Prabhakar was an assistant professor at IMDEA Software Institute and a postdoctoral researcher at the California Institute of Technology before she joined Kansas State in 2015.

Faculty of Mechanical Engineering deputed for PhD Programme at NITK, Surathkal

Prof. Vinay B U, Department of Mechanical Engineering has been deputed to National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal to pursue PhD in Metallurgical & Materials Engineering for a period of 3 years. Sahyadri appreciates his interest and congratulates him on his successful admission to the PhD Programme.

Ms. Chaitra Acharya has joined the Department of Computer Science & Engineering as an Assistant Professor. She has completed her B.E in Computer Science & Engineering from VCET, Puttur & M. Tech in Computer Networks from National Institution of Engineering, Mysore. Her area of specialization is Computer Networks.

Ms. Vanishree B S has joined the Department of Computer Science & Engineering as an Assistant Professor. She has completed her B.E in Computer Science & Engineering, from Canara Engineering College, Mangalore & M.Tech in Computer Network Engineering, from Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. Her area of Specialization is Computer Science Engineering.


A Two-Day Workshop organized by Mechanical Department

A two-day In- house workshop on “Soft Computing and Optimizing Techniques for Mechanical Engineers” was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Prof. Mahesh B. Davangeri, HoD, Department of Mechanical Engineering gave an overview of the workshop. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Dr. D L Prabhakara, Director emphasized on the importance of soft computing tools in engineering as it would help engineers to come up with better designs. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal eulogized the department for its initiative. The workshop included sessions on optimization techniques, MAT LAB and CFD.

MBA Faculty attended a Management Conclave in Bengaluru

Prof. Ramesh K G, Department of Business Administration attended a Management Conclave organized by Karnataka Private Post-Graduate Colleges Association held at Bengaluru. The theme for the Management Conclave was "Paving a path towards excellence: Understanding Accreditations ". The conclave was inaugurated by Dr. M P Poonia, Vice-Chairman, AICTE, New Delhi and he spoke on AICTE guidelines for accreditation. Dr. U Ramesh, Regional Officer, AICTE, Bengaluru spoke on funding opportunities available for Management Institutions under various AICTE schemes.

During the second session of the Management Conclave, newly drafted guidelines for Management Programme under NBA Accreditation were discussed. Dr. R V Ranganath, HOD of Civil Engineering, BMS College of Engineering, Bengaluru briefed the participants on the changes incorporated in the draft guidelines for NBA Accreditation.
