BOAT & DTE in collaboration with Sahyadri organize an Apprenticeship Fair

Larsen & Toubro Pre-Joining Discussion Board of Apprenticeship Training (SR), Chennai & Directorate of Technical Education, Bengaluru in collaboration with Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management organized an Apprenticeship Fair for Engineering Graduates/Diploma/General Graduates in Sahyadri Campus which saw participation from Seven Hundred students of Karnataka. Mr. B Jayaraj, Deputy Director Planning, DTE, Mr. Shridhar Narayani H, FDA, DTE & Mr. M Suresh Kumar, Assistant Director, BOAT were the guests for the Inaugural Ceremony along with Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman & Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal. During the Inaugural Ceremony, Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal welcomed the gathering and encouraged the participants to enjoy their profession (once selected) which shall enhance their productivity.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman while addressing the gathering highlighted that the students only study during their course of education, however fail to learn hence they face challenges in getting absorbed by Corporate Houses. He appreciated the Government of India for providing opportunities to students through Apprenticeship Training which imparts learning the core concepts before being employed. He re-iterated that if one learns while studying then the job opportunities are plenty hence this Apprenticeship fair shall bridge the gap and provide right fitment to industries. He urged the participants to develop interest, commitment, involvement & discipline in whatever job has been assigned. He also emphasised on the growing trend for SMART Skills which is the need of the hour and should be developed within.

Mr. B Jayaraj, Deputy Director Planning, DTE while speaking to the participants referred to Sahyadri as the “Temple for Learning”. He appreciated the enthusiasm & cooperation from the Management of Sahyadri and hence selected this institution as the venue for the Fair. He urged the participants to take up Competitive exams and also pursue post graduation while working. He said they are now the Raw Materials which in 4 to 5 years shall turn into jewels or diamonds. He also mentioned about the Government of India Scholarship to pursue higher education in Foreign universities. Mr. M Suresh Kumar, Assistant Director, BOAT while addressing the students appreciated Sahyadri for its social responsibility towards students. He also referred to the industries & corporate house as pillars of BOAT who participated in the Apprenticeship Fair. It was encouraging to learn that last year 9900 Apprentices were selected and trained and Karnataka pays higher Stipend in comparison to other states. He encouraged the participants to visit the BOAT website as all communication related to Apprenticeship are Open and Transparent. He brought out the benefits of Apprenticeship Training which includes Skill Development, Bridging gap between theory & practice, Platform to enter corporate houses. He re-iterated that a Government of India Certificate will be issued to the selects after completing one year of Apprenticeship Training.

Apart from the guests, the HR Professionals who participated in the Apprenticeship Fair also shared their expectations from the candidates. Students also volunteered to share their opinion about the initiative of organizing the Apprenticeship Fair at Sahyadri.

Sahyadri Hosts Fellowship Dinner at Radisson Blu Atria

Sahyadri Hosts Fellowship Dinner at Radisson Blu Atria Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management hosted a Fellowship Dinner at the Radisson Blu Atria, Bengaluru. The event was organized in gratitude for the overwhelming support to Sahyadri from the many corporate houses over the years. A gathering of over 150 distinguished guests with close to 90 companies attended the Fellowship dinner. To name a few, representatives from TCS, HP, Schneider Electric, ITC, Tech Mahindra, IBM, Accord Software, Levis graced the occasion.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman thanked the gathered invitees for the support extended towards the progress of the institute. He took them through the many initiatives of Sahyadri and pointed out that the college is focused on ensuring that ideas are realized into products and how the entire management and faculty at Sahyadri are geared towards this. He introduced the unique practices that are adopted by the institute and its outcome that has resulted positively. He informed the gathering on the Student Project Support Schemes, Mentorship, Dedicated team of faculty for the First year engineering and Aptitude training. He invited everyone to be stakeholders of Sahyadri.

Mr. Priyank Kharge, Minister of state for Information Technology and Tourism, Government of Karnataka spoke to the gathering and was very appreciative of the initiatives taken up by Sahyadri. He stated that it is ideal for students to pick up Projects that can be converted into an end product, which adds value in the society. He strongly insisted of having an ambience for ideation, where students have a platform to discuss mutually, share ideas and end up with innovative products. He stated that there exists no innovation without ideation.

Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal thanked the delegates for their overwhelming participation and partnering with Sahyadri.

Dr. Jayarama conducted PhD Viva-Voce Exam at MITE – Moodabidri

Dr. Jayarama has visited MITE - Moodabidri as internal examiner for conducting Ph.D. Viva Voce exam of his research student Mr. Anthoni Praveen Menezes, a faculty of Department of Physics at MITE. Dr. P. Nandakumar from BITS Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa campus, Goa was the external examiner.

Mr. Anthoni Praveen Menezes has submitted his thesis titled “Growth and characterization of Π-conjugated novel organic nonlinear optical materials” to Visvesvaraya Technological University under the guidance of Dr. Jayarama on June 12, 2017. He has published 5 research articles in peer reviewed journals and 3 articles in conference proceedings.

Larsen & Toubro Pre-Joining Discussion Mr. Rahul Nayak, Manager – HR & Personnel from the Electrical & Automation division of Larsen & Toubro Limited had visited the campus to have a pre-joining discussion with the candidates who have been selected by the company in the recruitment drive conducted earlier. The discussion oriented selected candidates regarding the career opportunities in the organization and its expectations. Thirteen candidates from pool colleges were part of the discussion to fine-tune them to the expectation before they join the organization.

NIPM Annual General Meeting

NIPM-Annual-General-Meeting Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has an Institutional Membership with NIPM (National Institute of People Management). As an outcome of the Institutional Membership, NIPM & Sahyadri collaboratively organized an HR National Conference in the Campus this year which has benefitted not only Sahyadri MBA students but also students of neighbouring MBA colleges.

An Annual General Meeting of NIPM, Mangaluru Chapter was held and MBA faculty team attended the meeting to strengthen the relationship and enhance Industry - Academia Interface. During the meeting Mr. P Suresh, Chairman, NIPM, Mangaluru Chapter shared the report of the year in terms of the events organized by the Chapter and also income and expenditure details. It has been proposed during the meeting to hold Technical sessions, Paper Presentation Competition for the students and also promote membership among the B-Schools, Corporate Houses & students.

Mr. Ankith S Kumar has joined as a Student Counsellor. He has completed his BBM from SDM College, Mangaluru and MSW (Medical & Psychiatry) from School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru. He is a certified Hypnotist and Neuro Linguistic Programme Practitioner. He is a Certified Yoga Therapist & also a Pranic Healer (Level 1). He has also completed his Certification in Forensic Science Minor. As a hobby, he is into Astrology & Paranormal Investigation.


Mechanical Engineering Students recruited by JSW Cement & MFCSL

Rakshith N Shetty from the Department of Mechanical Engineering has been recruited as a Graduate Engineering Trainee by JSW Cement with a package of 4.62 Lakhs per annum in the recently held campus recruitment drive.

Glister Prithesh D'Silva from the Department of Mechanical Engineering has been recruited as a Graduate Engineer Trainee by Mahindra First Choice Services Limited (MFCSL) with a package of 3.6 Lakhs per annum in the recently held campus recruitment drive.

CSE Faculty, SPOC of NPTEL attends a Workshop

Prof. Duddela Sai Prashanth, Department of Computer Science has attended the Workshop & Meeting - SPOC of NPTEL, Local Chapter and received a certificate for his instrumental role as a SPOC for the NPTEL, Local Chapter. Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has been listed as an active local chapter. During Jan – April 2017 semester, 26 students have appeared, cleared and have been certified for the NPTEL courses conducted by IIT Madras. Prof. Duddela Sai Prashanth received mentor certificate for the python programming course. It should be noted that all the NPTEL courses are SWAYAM MOOC Courses. Fifteen-Day Bridge Course Concludes

The Fifteen-Day Bridge Course which started on 4th July’17 concluded on 19th Jul’17. The course introduced “Engineering” to the fresher’s in the most unique and fun-filled way. The course conveyed essential skills required to take up engineering in the most effective manner that included leadership skills, competitiveness, confidence, communication and so on.

It also taught new technologies that helped the students to develop mobile applications, autonomous robots and build household projects. Mr. Johnson Tellis, the facilitator conducted sessions on time management, resource management and expressed the importance of being calm and optimistic throughout life.

Dr. Umesh M Bushi, Principal concluded the programme with his thought provoking words; urging students to “live engineering rather than learn engineering”. Finally, feedback from the participants were ascertained which determines that the course has bridged the gap between the mindset of the fresher’s and the mindset required to pursue engineering.
