Mr. Rajat Salyan P; Mr. Prajwal Suvarna; Mr. Akshith Rai E and Mr. Prem Kumar T N from the Dept. of Civil Engineering were recruited for the position of GIS Trainee Engineer by Roter Lehmannpartner India Pvt. Ltd. in the recently held recruitment drive.

Sahyadri E-Magazine – ‘Sahyadri Springs’ launched Our College E-Magazine - "Sahyadri Springs" was launched on July 5th’19 by the Principal - Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte and Academic Administrative Officer Ms. Shreelatha U A. During the launching ceremony, Principal addressed the gathering and encouraged the newly joined students to showcase their creative talents and abilities through the E-Magazine. Academic Administrative Officer Ms. Shreelatha U A in her speech recited a poem, which was published in ‘Sahyadri Springs’, expressing the beauty of the composition.

Student Counsellor, Mr. Ankith S. Kumar, spoke about the E-Magazine and stimulated all to express their thoughts through this forum. Editorial Chief - Prof. Akshaya Shetty organized & hosted the launch programme.

Bridge Course for 2nd Batch of Engineering students – 2019Bridge Course for 2nd Batch of Engineering students – 2019  During the Day Seven – 1st July’19, students were introduced to electronics prototyping kit - DreamKit by Mr. Aashish U.S. Project Head at DTi Labz Pvt. Ltd. During the session the students learnt about the basics of electronics and sensors. Teams built simple application based projects like automatic street light control, car parking signal, burglar alarm system etc. With these introduction sessions, the teams will further start assembling the robot and code it to perform various task for the final event.

Bridge Course for the 2nd Batch of Engineering students – 2019Bridge Course for the 2nd Batch of Engineering students – 2019 On the eighth day of bridge course – 2nd July’19, students assembled the robots and programmed it to maneuver using Bluetooth connectivity. At the end of the session the teams competed with the opponents. In the second session, students learned MIT app Inventor software. MIT App Inventor is an open-source web application originally provided by Google, and now maintained by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which allows newcomers of computer programming to create software applications for the Android operating system. The students developed an RC Controller app using which they will control the robot for the final event.

Bridge Course for the 2nd Batch of Engineering students – 2019 During the Day Nine on 3rd July 201, students developed a light following robot system. Based on the lighting condition, the robot will travel and the task is to control the robot using the light rays.

On the Tenth day of Bridge Course – 4th July’19, students programmed the robot to perform the line following task. In the second session they prepared the robot with all 3 features - Light following, Bluetooth control and line following. All the teams are ready for the final event which will be held on 5th July’19 in the college auditorium.

Bridge Course for the 2nd Batch of Engineering students – 2019 concludes  Bridge Course for the 2nd Batch of Engineering students – 2019 concludes On the concluding day – 6th July’19 of the Twelve day-long Bridge Course which dealt with introducing the students to concepts of mathematics, computer programming, electronics and a whole new vibe of fun with engineering, a Mega Robotics event was held wherein the students had to compete with each other with their respective robots built using the concepts they learnt throughout the 12 days of Bridge Course. The teams built their robot performing three functions - line following, light following and Bluetooth control.

Post this event, student teams gave video presentations of their experiences and their learning from Bridge Course. Finally, Mr. Johnson Tellis addressed the students on their accomplishments and welcomed them to their engineering career at Sahyadri.


Second session on Future Skill - Cyber Security

Second session on Future Skill - Cyber Security In an effort to up-skill Sahyadri with the Future Skills that are now the need of hour, weekly sessions are arranged for the teaching and non-teaching staff on main identified verticals and Cyber Security is one among them. On 6th July’19, the second session on Cyber Security was held. Prof. Naitik S T, Dept. of Information Science & Engineering facilitated this session which focussed on “Email Etiquette”. In his talk he gave insights on email spoofing and phishing. He also shared tips on Email Safety & Security. A total of 47 Teaching and Non-Teaching staffs were present during the session.

Thin Film Research Lab starts functioning at Sahyadri

Thin Film Research Lab starts functioning at Sahyadri Thin Film Research Lab that has been established from the State Grant received from VGST with due support from the Management, started functioning in the Department of Engineering Physics with effect from July 4th’19. The Programme coordinator - Dr. Navin N Bappalige has given the demonstration of the functioning of this unit to Dr. Manjappa S, Director R&D; Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal and to the HOD’s of all departments. VGST has sanctioned Rs. 5.00 Lakhs under its RFTT scheme in the year 2017-18 to the Programme coordinator to establish Thin Film Research Lab using Spin Coater. From the fund received, along with the Spin Coater, the characterization units like Hall Probes, Thin film Electrical characterization unit, high resolution microscope with camera, hydrothermal autoclave to produce nano powder, Ph meter, IR based thermometer, furnace and other basic equipment have also been set up. Researchers across departments can now utilize the facilities available in the Thin Film Research Lab.

Faculty visits Pratian Technologies On 2 July, 2019 the faculty team comprising of Dr. Pushpalatha and Mr. Harisha from the Department of Computer Science Engineering, Mr. Prakhyath Rai and Mrs. Suchetha G. from the Department of Information Science Engineering and Dr. Anush Bekal, Mr. Pradeep and Mr. Praveen Kumar from the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering visited Pratian Technologies Bengaluru and had an interaction with Mr. Anuj Sharma, Chairman, World Research Centre. The interaction was intended to meet the gap between industry and students.

Mr. Anuj Sharma stressed on the importance of students getting involved in solving real time industry problems and in turn getting absorbed by the respective companies. He also stressed on the importance of faculty getting updated with industry standards and latest trends and technologies adopted by industries.

Induction program is organized for newly joined faculty

Induction program is organized for newly joined faculty Department of Computer Science & Engineering organized an Induction Program on 2nd July 2019 for transition of the newly joined faculty into the teaching profession. Prof. J.V. Gorabal, Head of the Department welcomed the newly joined faculty to the Sahyadri family. He briefed them on the best practices at Sahyadri and explained them about guidelines on teaching methodology and how to become an excellent teacher.

Prof. Gorabal shared his experience as a teacher with all newly joined faculties and motivated them to become passionate towards teaching and research.

Faculty attends the ‘Infosys Campus Connect’ programme at Vidya Academy of Science & Technology, Thrissur

Faculty attends the ‘Infosys Campus Connect’ programme at Vidya Academy of Science & Technology, Thrissur Prof. Vijay C P, Dept. Computer Science and Engineering has attended a Six-Day Infosys Campus Connect programme at Vidya Academy of Science & Technology, Thrissur during 24th to 29th June’19. The programme was on InfyTQ platform. At the end of the workshop, online assessment was conducted in which he secured an ‘A’ Grade.

InfyTQ is a learning platform developed by Infosys to make students industry ready. Students have to register in the portal, post which they can take courses and register for certification exam. If students clear the exam, spot interview will be conducted for selection. Students of any department can log on to: infytq.infosys.com to register.
