Faculty selected to pursue PhD at Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvanthapuram

Bhandary Foundation Recognized as Scientific and Industrial Research Organization by DST, Govt. Of India Prof. Nisha from the Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering has been selected to pursue PhD under AICTE-INAE Teachers Research Fellowship Scheme at Department of Avionics, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvanthapuram.

Engineering Teachers of AICTE approved institutions can apply for AICTE-INAE Teachers Research Fellowship Scheme for pursuing PhD in Government Research Labs. On applying, Nisha had to go through a Written Test and also an Interview round. She is the only candidate to be selected under this scheme in IIST in the whole of India making Sahyadri proud.

Nisha is working with Sahyadri for the last 3 years and is also an Alumna of our institute. Her research area for PhD is "Microelectronics, Transducers & Actuators, Microelectromechanical System (MEMS), Electromangetics, and Communication Systems".

Sahyadrian Recruited by Microsoft India (R&D) Pvt. Ltd. at a Salary Package of Rs. 10.00 Lakhs per annum  Ms. Pratheeksha S Karandoor from the 2019 passed out batch of Computer Science & Engineering was recruited by Microsoft for the position of Support Engineer with a package of Rs.10.00 Lakhs per annum. Pratheeksha had applied for the post of Support Engineer through the Microsoft job portal, post which she got an interview call at Microsoft Bengaluru. She had to undergo 3 rounds including Group Discussion followed by Technical & HR round before being offered the job role.

Microsoft was established in 1990, and is the largest campus of Microsoft in India. It houses Microsoft's biggest research and development facility outside the United States. Microsoft's offices in India are in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Pune, and Mumbai. The Microsoft is a publicly-traded company known for producing and selling the Windows operating system, as well as software programs such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Parent Interaction of new entrants to the Engineering stream 2019 Parent Interaction of new entrants to the Engineering stream 2019 Interaction session for the parents of new entrants to the engineering stream under CET Quota was held in the campus in two batches of 84 and 59 each. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman welcomed the parents and spoke on the concept of Acceptance.

The chairman emphasized that engineering involves learning skills. In-keeping with the AICTE norms, Sahyadri offers technical skills where the students are exposed to internship programs, latest technology, and industry activities, he said. He emphasised that the students are also offered a platform to compete in various national and international events. Meanwhile, the chairman stressed on the responsibility of the parents towards their children and urged them to:

• Stimulate their children to utilize the facilities available in the campus and learn creative skills.
• Motivate your child
• To ignite in their children a spark of responsibility towards their family and the society.
• To share their own experiences of life with their child.
• To make their children self-dependent.
Speaking about the company expectations, Mr. Bhandary stated that the companies expect aptitude, attitude, good exposure, project based learning, interactive, communication and interactive skills from its employees.

Dr. R. Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal, in his address, stressed that the maximum attendance required as per VTU norms is 75% and requested parents to monitor their child’s performance and attendance.

Campus Recruitment Drive - Amazon A team of faculty from Computer Science, Electronics & Communication and Information Science Engineering participated in a Two-Week Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on "Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning" organized by Global Academy of Technology, Bengaluru in association with Indian Institute of Information Technology-Allahabad during 1st July to 13th July, 2019.

This FDP helped to develop an in-depth understanding of the Expert System like Auto-Encoders, ML Algorithms, and Big-Data technologies like Hadoop and Spark to name a few. This would enable the faculty to offer larger AI & ML curriculum going forward. On all days, the second half of the day was dedicated for Hands-on problem-solving sessions, a big take away from the programme. Dr. Pushpalatha and Prof. Prashanth D from Computer Science & Engineering; Prof. Suchetha from Information Science & Engineering and Prof. Pradeep K from Electronics & Communication Engineering participated in this FDP. The resource persons were Top researchers in the AI and ML Domain from IIIT Allahabad - Dr. Rahul Kala; Dr Anupam; Dr Sonali Aggrawal; Dr K.P Singh and Dr. Shekar Varma.

Bridge Course for CET Batch of Engineering 2019 Bridge Course for CET Batch of Engineering 2019 A Five-Day Bridge Course for the new entrants to Engineering batch 2019-20 through CET commenced on 15th July’19. Mr. Johnson Tellis, Director Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt Ltd interacted with the students and stressed on the importance of starting a conversation. His session focussed on Confidence building. Team based activity - Human Caterpillar was organized to make the students comfortable to communicate with each other and also to enhance their decision making abilities.

Bridge Course for the 3rd Batch of Engineering students - 2019 Bridge Course for the 3rd Batch of Engineering students - 2019 On the Day Two of Bridge Course, Team Building activity – “Tower Building” was conducted for students to understand the importance of team work. During the next session, an activity was conducted wherein the students highlighted their strengths and weaknesses in the form of a collage and presented it. This activity helps the students in self-evaluation and gives scope to plan on how they should overcome their weaknesses.

Bridge Course for the 3rd Batch of Engineering students – 2019 On 17th Jul’19, the Day Three of Bridge Course, students visited the in-house industries and launchpads of the institute and also interacted with the industry heads. They were introduced to various programmes and facilities available in the industries and launchpads that will help them in building their future projects.

On the fourth day of the Bridge Course – 18th July’19, Design thinking session was conducted post which the students had an activity of Wallet Making. The session and activity on Design Thinking was organized to understand people’s needs and come up with effective solution to meet those needs.

On the fifth day of Bridge course – 19th July’19, students had a Team activity wherein they had to do a Video Presentation covering their experiences at Sahyadri during the last 5 days. It was a joyous moment to witness the students involved in this assignment with great zeal

LLP’s at Sahyadri shortlisted to the Final Round of Elevate-100 in Bengaluru

Out of 750+ applicants throughout Karnataka, five of the LLP start-ups established at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management have been shortlisted for the final round of Elevate-2019 to be held in Bengaluru on 29th July 2019.

These 4 LLP’S are the result of the projects that were incubated at K-Tech NAIN Centre (New Age Incubation Network), Dept of IT & BT, Government of Karnataka. NAIN had funded 11 projects and these 4 have been shortlisted to Elevate-2019.

In addition to this, another project “Smart Gate Aid” by Mr. Prajwal, from fifth semester Mechanical Engineering & Mr. Sagar, an alumnus of Sahyadri (2019 passed out), mentored by Mr. Johnson Tellis, Director-Sahyadri Edu Dreamers has also been shortlisted for Elevate-100.


Design Thinking session to curate Active Learning for first year Engineering students

Bridge Course for the 3rd Batch of Engineering students - 2019 Bridge Course for the 3rd Batch of Engineering students - 2019 With an intention to develop an active learning environment, the entire Teaching fraternity of first year engineering came together for creating an active learning curriculum. During the four days - 16th to 19th July’2019, the Team underwent rigorous Design Thinking activity to map the learning outcomes of the Department to that prescribed by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The activity gave rise to creation of Assignments that are intriguing to Gen Z thereby creating a Calendar of Events in order to distribute the workload of the students effectively.

Session was organized under the guidance of Dr. Rajesha S, Dean-Academics and Heads of All Departments. The activities were facilitated by members of Dtlabz - Mr. Johnson Tellis and Mr. Gautham Nayak.

Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal addressed the participants with regards to the importance of Accreditation. Dr. Rajesha S, Dean-Academics; Dr. Ravichandra, Dean–Industry Connect & Head of Dept. of Mechanical Engineering; Dr. Shamanth Rai, Head of Dept. of Information Science and Engineering; Prof. Rashmi Bhandary, Head of Placements; Dr. Rathishchandra Gatty, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering; Prof. Vasudev Rao P V, Dept. of Information Science and Engineering and Prof. Samarth Shenoy, Dept. of Business Administration facilitated the workshop covering topics such as Introduction to OBE Process, Preparation of Pre-Qualifier Report (PQR) and Self-Assessment Report (SAR), Course Objectives formation , CO-PO-PSO Mapping, Course File Preparation, Direct and Indirect tools, Rubrics, OBE attainment calculation in MS Excel and SIP/SPSS Projects. The sessions were followed by Hands-on practice and presentation by faculty members on CO formation and Mapping, Course File Preparation and Direct and Indirect tools usage for Odd Semester 2019-20. The workshop concluded with FAQ session and Feedback.

Students attend KSHAMATA camp conducted by World Konkani Centre  Ten students have recently attended the KSHAMATA camp conducted by World Konkani Centre in Shakthi Nagar Mangaluru. This camp was for students whose mother tongue is Konkani and focused on developing their English Communication skill, Public Speaking ability and Team Building. A total of 54 students from various other colleges were a part of this programme. This camp was organized as a part of Vishwa Konkani Scholarship Programme.

Second Session on Future Skills – AI/Big Data With the intent to up-skill the teaching and non-teaching staff on the Future Skills, the second session for the staffs who are aligned to AI/Big Data Vertical was held on 20th Jul’19 and Prof. Prashanth Duddela, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering facilitated the session. These sessions are organized in order to acquaint the non-engineering staff on the Future Skills. Hence series of sessions are held in to lay a strong foundation on Future Skills and prepare for the Advanced courses planned in the near future.

TEDxSCEM 2019 to be held at Sahyadri TEDxSCEM is an event organized under TEDx. A TEDx event is a local gathering where live TED-like talks and performances are shared with the community. TEDxSCEM, organized by Sahyadri on 28th of July, 2019 has a count of 8 inspirational speakers from various domains and 4 extravagant cultural performances. The various domains include technical, medical, innovation, defense, agriculture, social, motivation and others.

Unpredictability can be anything, from a sudden idea that could bring a drastic change to the way you live to an incident that might alter very important aspects of your life. These situations could come either in the form of a boon or a bane. What we do with the consequences of these occurrences is what we plan on exploring through the various accounts our speakers will be giving to us.

Our students from Sahyadri were successful to get licence to host this event in our college. Basavarajeshwari from fifth semester, Dept. of Information Science & Engineering is the Chief coordinator and licensee for the event and Srujan from fifth semester, Dept. of Information Science & Engineering is the Coordinator.
