ADGP of Bangalore and Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University visits Sahyadri

Mr. Amar Kumar Pandey (IPS) who has been posted as ADGP, Internal Security Division, Bangalore, along with Professor K. Byrappa, the new Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University, visited the Campus and interacted with Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Mr. Jagannath Chowta and Mr. Devadas Hegde, Trustees, Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, Dr. A. J. Antony, Vice-Principal, and Prof. M. N. Nayak, Administrator. They were taken around the Campus and were shown the new infrastructure being developed. Appreciating the development since their last visit, they wished the very best for the future of Sahyadri.

Mr. Amar Kumar Pandey IPS is from Karnataka Cadre since 1989. He has served as Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Central Range, Bangalore. Mr. Pandey has worked in various higher assignments of the Govt. and the United Nations - Peace Keeping in Bosnia - Herzegovina (Former Yugoslavia) and Sierra Leone (West Africa). An initiative by the Govt. of Karnataka to strengthen Basic Policing & Police Management system in the state as a larger programme to strengthen performance management in execution and administration and the Police Resource Optimisation saw Mr. Amar Kumar Pandey as the driving force behind this initiative.

Prof. Byrappa is a senior professor having passed B.Sc. from Yuvaraja College, Mysore with distinction, securing a gold medal in 1973. Having completed M.Sc. from the University of Mysore with distinction and a gold medal in 1975, he secured a Ph.D. in Materials Science from Moscow State University (USSR, now Russia) in 1981. He holds diplomas in Russian and Japanese languages. He has many books in published form to his credit and has edited five journals.

Mr. K. Thejomaya visits Sahyadri

Mr. K. Thejomaya, former Syndicate Member, Mangalore University, visited Sahyadri and interacted with Prof. M. N. Nayak, Administrator and Mr. Vikhyath Rai, SWO. He was taken around the Campus and was appreciative of the infrastructure and the facilities provided by the institution.

Mr. K. Thejomaya is the former Trustee of the New Mangalore Port Trust, Ex-Vice-President of the D.K. Congress Committee, Ex-Chairman of the Mangalore Urban Development Authority and Ex-President of the D. K. District Mangalore South Block Congress Committee and D. K. District Youth Congress Committee.

Career Guidance and Option Entry Sessions held in the Campus

The week long Career Guidance, Branch Selection Guidance and Option Entry Sessions were held in the Campus. Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal and Mr. Ananth Prabhu, Head, Sahyadri P. U. College, took sessions on branch selection for CET aspirants.

Dr. U. M. Bhushi addressed the gathering on the dilemmas students face at the time of deciding the right branch of study to enroll for. He stressed on the importance of passion for a particular branch and the selection of the same to succeed in a chosen field. Mr. Ananth Prabhu gave information on various branches of Engineering and how to select the branch based on the interest of the student. He gave clear insight on how to achieve the prospective goals in one’s career. This was followed by an Option Entry Demonstration by Mrs. Gayathri U. Shetty, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration & team. Around one hundred students and parents participated in the Career Guidance and Option Entry Sessions. Faculty members were present during these sessions.

Digitisation and Digital Evaluation work of UG/PG answer scripts underway in the Campus

Digitisation and Digital Evaluation work of UG/PG answer scripts of the semester January to June 2014 for this region has been entrusted to Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management by the VTU, Belgaum. The Digital Evaluation of answer scripts of the semester examinations conducted by VTU has begun. Evaluators from different colleges affiliated to VTU are involved in the process of evaluation.

Faculty Members’ Paper in International Journal


A research paper titled 'A comparative analysis of occupational stress among the employees in public and private sector banks' which was presented in the WAIRCO Conference at Colombo, Srilanka, co-authored by Dr. Vishal Samartha, Asssociate Professor and Mr. Lokesh, Assistant Professor-SG, Department of Business Administration, has been published in the International Journal of Conceptions on Management and Social sciences, volume 2, Issue 2, May 2014, ISSN: 2357 – 2787.

Faculty Members Attend Workshop

Ms. Ankitha Shetty, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration and Ms. Sarala, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering attended a four-day workshop on `Introduction to Therapeutic Counseling for Engineering Teachers’, held at NMAMIT, Nitte. The workshop focused on student mental disorders. Due to lot of competition and pressure for greater expectation, students may lose confidence in academics and end up in depression. Teachers should identify such students and counsel them or direct them to a professional psychiatrist for proper counseling.
