Sri Kimmane Rathnakar, Hon’ble Minister Primary and Secondary Education visits Sahyadri
Sri. Kimmane Rathnakar, Hon’ble Minister Primary and Secondary Education, Government of Karnataka, graced Sahyadri with his visit. He was received by Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Mrs. Prasanna Bhandary, Trustee, Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, Prof. Umashankar B. S., Dean-Academic, and Prof. Balakrishna, HoD, Department of Mechanical Engineering. Sri. K. R. Thimmaiah, Deputy Director Pre-University Board accompanied the Hon’ble Minister. The Hon’ble Minister also met the DK College-PU Principal’s Association President, Mr. Jagjeevandas Bhandary and other Executive members.
 He was taken around the Campus and was happy to see the infrastructure and state-of-the-art facilities provided in the College. In his own words he says, “I am very much impressed by the total environment and its infrastructure and the latest technologies.”
Sri Kimmane Rathnakar holds the portfolio of Minister for Primary and Secondary Education in the present Government of Karnataka. He is a professional advocate and the MLA from Thirthahalli constituency in Shimoga District. He belongs to the Indian National Congress. He completed his schooling in Thirthahalli, and then completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Bhuvanendra College, Karkala. In 1966 he completed his Law degree in BMS College of Law.

Seven students of the Department of Business Administration were recruited in various companies during the recently held job fair at Alva's 'Pragati 2014'. Mr. Boris Fernandes who is specialized in Finance is recruited by NMC Healthcare for their international office. Mr. Nidhin T. V. specialized in Marketing is recruited by UAE Exchange in their international office. The other students selected to work within India are Chethan Prabhu H., with a specialization in Finance and has been placed in E & Y. Darshan B. Kumar, Gopalkrishna, and Sachin Prasad, specialized in banking are recruited by ICICI Prudential Life Insurance. Jinish Abraham who is also specialized in Banking is recruited by Muthoot Finance.

College of Nursing Organises a Thanksgiving Programme
A thanks giving programme was organized by the fifth batch of M.Sc. students of Sahyadri College of Nursing. Teaching and non-teaching staff of the College were present on the occasion. Ms. Sneha Sebastian represented her batch and shared their experience in the College. Prof. Irene Veigas, Principal, Mrs. Neetha Kamath, PG Coordinator, the HODs and teaching staff shared their experience with the students. This was followed with a games session. Prizes were given away to the winners by Prof. Irene Veigas.

Sahyadri P. U. College: PTA Meeting
 
The first PTA meeting of the Sahyadri P.U. College in the current academic year was held in the Campus. Mr. Ranganath, Deputy Manager, Karnataka Forest Development Corporation, Sullia and Mr. Shahul Hameed, the outgoing President of the Parent-Teacher Association (2013-14) of Sahyadri P. U. College were the guests on the occasion.
Mr. Naveen S. A. Principal, in his address, highlighted the milestones achieved by the college in the past four years and thanked all the parents for their active support. He appealed to the parents to play a proactive role in the studies of their children, through regular monitoring at home and through frequent consultations with the teachers at college.
Mr. Ranganath, the chief guest and resource person for the day, and also the proud parent of Sulekha, alumna of Sahyadri P. U. College (2012-13 batch, now pursuing BDS in Dharwad), acknowledged the support and guidance provided by the Principal and Staff of Sahyadri P. U. College. He advised the parents to neither impose their thoughts on children nor compare them with their peers. He urged the students not to under-estimate their potential and motivated them by citing examples of achievers who made it big in life, despite obstacles.
Mr. Shahul Hameed, the chief guest and also the proud parent of Maria Alfam, alumna of Sahyadri P. U. College (2013-14 batch, who scored 90.83% in PU Board exams), complimented the college for fulfilling the expectations of the parents and students. He enlisted the advantages of pursuing studies at Sahyadri and exhorted the students to make the best use of them.
New office bearers of PTA for the year 2014-15 were elected on the occasion. Mrs. Babitha Alva, is the President, Ms. Shruthi. K, Secretary (Staff Representative), Mrs. Veena, Mrs. Geetha Shetty, Mrs. Vanitha Shetty, Mr. Shankar Shetty, and Mr. Padmanabha Rao are the Members of the Association.
The formal programme was followed by a cultural extravaganza by students.

Principal’s Doctoral Candidate Successfully Defends his Thesis
 
Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi’s doctoral candidate Prof. Mahesh Bhagwat, on June 18, 2014 successfully defended his Ph.D Thesis titled “A ROADMAP FROM ISO TO SIX SIGMA TRANSFORMATION BY USE OF RELATED SOFT TECHNOLOGIES: A CASE OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT INDUSTRY”, under Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad. He has published four international journal articles and six international and national conference papers in the course of completing his thesis during the period 2010-2014. Of the eight candidates registered under the guidance of Dr. Bhushi, Prof. Mahesh Bhagwat is the third candidate to obtain a Ph. D.
Prof. Mahesh Bhagwat is HOD of Mechanical Engineering, Rajendra Mane College of Engineering, Ambav, Maharashtra, where Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi began his tenure as Principal from 2007-2010.

Staff Member Conferred with Swabhiman Award 2014
Mr. Jagadish Poojary, staff member and trainer at Sahyadri multi-gymnasium was conferred the Swabhiman Award 2014 by former Lokayukta Justice, Santosh Hegde on the fifth anniversary celebrations of Daijiworld at Town Hall, Mangalore. Each year, Daijiworld recognizes such special achievers of our society. He was one among the seven from different walks of life who received the award for special achievement in society against all odds. Mr. Jagadish Poojary, has participated in many district and state level bodybuilding competitions and has won a number of prizes.

Faculty Members’ Paper in International Journal
 
A research paper titled “Financial literacy: how one could make it more effective in India”, which was presented in the WAIRCO Conference at Colombo, Sri Lanka, authored by Mr. Raghavendra Prabhu and co-authored by Dr. Vidyavathi, Department of Business Administration, has been published in the International Journal of Conceptions on Management and Social Sciences, Volume 2, Issue-2,May 2014, ISSN-2357-2787.

Sahyadri facilitates SBI Online Examination
The State Bank of India (SBI) Online Examination for the post of Probationary Officers was held in the Campus. 220 candidates took the online examination. The College facilitated this examination in two batches per day for two days.
