Collaboration with BOSCH as part of CSR under Bridge: A Short-term Employable Skills Course

Mr. Claudius Baumann, CSR Project Trainee of BOSCH along with Mr. Sanmath Hegde visited the campus for a possible collaboration as part of Corporate Social Responsibility under Bridge: A short-term employable skills course. Along with the BOSCH team, Mr. Chetan R., Principal, Hebich Technical Training Institute, Balmatta, Mangalore, who is also collaborating with BOSCH were in the campus.

Bosch has designed a short-term (two months) training programme `Bridge’ to impart vocational training to underprivileged, school dropouts and unemployed youth. The programme is conducted through N. S. D. C. (National Skill Development Corporation) partners and other Vocational Training Institutes across the country and has met with 100% employment success so far. A specially designed Bosch Learner Kit, provided to the trainees, is one of the most popular in the skill industry. This will be supported by Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management.

Bosch, with its Global headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany, is the world’s largest supplier of automotive technology and has a presence in more than 150 countries. With more than 4,300 patent applications every year, it is one of the most innovative companies in the industry.

Kindly ascertain any under-privileged student not qualified in X or XII and above the age of 18 and contact Assistant Professor, Rakshit Shetty of the Department of Mechanical Engineering to get involved in this training.

VTU Semester VIII Results: Sahyadri 94.2%

The VTU results of Semester VIII in all Engineering streams offered by the college saw an impressive percentage score in the recently held examinations. Out of 433 students who sat for the VTU Examination 2013-14, 290 passed with distinction and 112 with a first class, bringing the overall percentage score to 94.2%.

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering secured 98.40 percent standing atop the rest. One hundred and twenty-seven students took the exam and among them eighty-nine students secured distinction, thirty scored first class and six students a second class. While in the Civil Engineering discipline, fifty-one students out of sixty-seven obtained a distinction and twelve a first class bringing the overall percentage score of the department to 94 percent.

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering recorded 93.30 percent results with one hundred and twenty students taking the examination out of which seventy-five students passed with distinction and thirty-seven with a first class.

The Department of Information Science & Engineering saw twenty-four students taking the examination out of which seventeen students obtained a distinction and five a first class bringing the overall percentage score of the department to 91.70 percent. Ninety-five students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering sat for the examination out of which fifty-eight secured distinction and twenty-eight a first class bringing the overall percentage score of the department to 90.50 percent.

Research at Sahyadri

Dr. Abhishek Vaish, Associate Professor, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad, visited the college in connection with the initiation and take up of Research at Sahyadri. Dr. Vaish has conducted various Governmental and Non-Governmental workshops in Information Security Management System and has executed various academic projects. The faculty of Computer Science & Engineering, Information Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Master of Computer Applications benefited out of this program. Dr. C. Ranganathaiah Professor at University of Mysore also gave valuable suggestions to the faculty fraternity.

Assistant Placement Officer attends SAP Faculty Day Programme

Ms. Raksha K. M., Assistant Placement Officer, attended the SAP Faculty Day Programme on the topic `Empowering Millennials’ at SAP Labs Campus, Bangalore.

The special guest for the programme was Arnab Goswami, Editor in Chief, Times Now who spoke on gut instinct, passion and ambition. The other speakers for the programme were Ann Rosenberg, Vidur Bhatnagar, VR Ferose, Bhuvaneswar Naik, Rahul Sachdev, and Dinu Nanjappa of SAP Labs. The programme highlighted the role of learning and relearning in up gradation of skill, entrepreneurship, how to fill the gap between industry and academia and various programmes from SAP labs for students.

CET Counseled Students Opt for Study in Sahyadri

140 students counseled during the CET documentation verification process have opted for study in Sahyadri and have secured their seats in the college. The admission process went on smoothly with the assistance of the respective staff. Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, Prof. J. V. Gorabal, HoD, Department of Master of Computer Applications and Mrs. Shreelatha, AAO also counselled the parents of the students.

Allcargo Logistics Ltd. Recruitment drive held at Sahyadri

Mr. Surendra Shetty, Manager-Operations, Allcargo Logistics Limited conducted the aptitude test round of the recruitment drive.

26 students from the Department of Business Administration had appeared for the test, out of which 5 students have been shortlisted for the next round of the selection process.

Two students selected for Oms Patent Services Pvt. Ltd.

Lekha Pai and Rakshitha Shetty of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering have been recruited by Oms Patent Services Pvt. Ltd. in the recently held recruitment drive in the campus.

MBA student recruited by Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance

Ms. Deepika of the Department of Business Administration has been recruited for the position of Sales Manager by Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance, Mangalore. Bajaj Allianz is a joint venture between Bajaj Finserv Limited and Allianz SE. Incorporated in the year 2001, Bajaj Allianz has got 759 branches currently operating in India.

Three-day Workshop on Communication Skills


A three-day Workshop on Communication Skills for degree students was organized by ‘Manthana’; an association of likeminded Sahyadrians at S.V.S. College, Bantwal. Fifty students of S. V. S College enthusiastically participated in this workshop.

The three-day workshop saw various sessions on Communication Skills engaged by Mrs. Ranjitha B, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management.
