Research Grant from Institution of Engineers Kolkata for Faculty Member
Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, received a Research Grant of Rs. 80,000/- for the financial year 2015-16 from the Institution of Engineers, Kolkata, India, for his proposal titled "Developing a Novel Technique for Identification of victims/criminals of sexual exploitation on women and children using C6 Integra (DSP+ARM)."
This proposal for which the research grant has been received from the Institution of Engineers, Kolkata, was prepared under the guidance of Dr. C. Ranganathaiah, Director Research and Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director Research & Consultancy.
The project execution team consists of Ms. K. H. Naz Mufeeda, Mrs. Sadhana and Mrs. Ankitha K., Assistant Professors, Department of Computer Science & Engineering. The research team also welcomes all those who are interested in this project.

A research article titled “Investigations on Mechanical Properties of Black Coloured Granite Particulates Reinforced Epoxy Composites” was presented in the International Conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering (ICETE-’15) held at NITTE, Mangalore. The paper is authored by Mr. Denis Pinto and Mr. Joel Concesso, Semester II, M.Tech. (Machine Design) and co-authored by Mr. Joel D’Mello, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Prof. S. S. Balakrishna, Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Oratocrats Gavel Club of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has been chartered by the prestigious Toastmasters International, based in California, USA. With this recognition, students of Sahyadri will benefit largely from getting international guidance to having global standards in public speaking.
Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. It has a membership of over 313,000 members. Toastmasters International Mission is to empower individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders. Gavel Clubs are an affiliate of Toastmasters International.
The purpose of the Gavel Club is to help its members improve their abilities to communicate effectively, to provide for its members’ instructions, educational materials and opportunities which will give them skill and experience in the preparation and delivery of speeches, to encourage its members to read and to listen analytically, to provide its members’ fair and constructive evaluation of their efforts toward self-improvement, to increase its members’ knowledge of the rules of parliamentary procedure and their skills in conducting meetings and participating in group discussions, to afford leadership training for its members, and to provide opportunities and encouragement for its members to appear before audiences and to express their thoughts creditably. In service Education Programme by Sahyadri College of Nursing
 
IV year B.Sc. students of nursing held an in service education programme on `Reproductive Child Health: Motherhood Fulfillment of Women’s Life.” The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mrs. Jasmine Sarita Vas, Principal, Father Muller School of Nursing, Mangaluru. Prof. Irene Veigas, Principal, Sahyadri College of Nursing, presided over the function.
Various sessions were engaged by the resource persons after the formal function of the programme. Mrs. Jasmine Sarita Vas spoke on “Introduction to Reproductive Child Health,” followed by Mr. Manish Kumar, HOD, Child Health Nursing, Sahyadri College of Nursing, addressing the topic “Care of Children with Malnutrition and Diarrheal Disease –A Holistic Approach.”
Principal, Prof. (Mrs.) Irene Veigas, Sahyadri College of Nursing, along with Prof. Savitha Pramilda Cutinho, HOD, OBG Department and Ms. Sonia Sequeira, Lecturer, Department of Community Health Nursing, Father Muller College of Nursing, engaged sessions on gynaecological problems in women at the end of their reproductive years.
Sr. Winnifred D’Souza, Principal, Father Muller College of Nursing, was the Chief Guest at the valedictory with Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation presiding over the function.

A research article titled “The effect of Cordierite/Pt catalyst on the NOx reduction in a diesel and Jatropha bio-diesel operated single cylinder engine” by Dr. Manoj Kumar A.P., Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been published in the Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering, Elsevier Publications, Volume 3 (2015), pp 1125–1136. The paper is co-authored by Mr. Sreekumar J.S., Tata Technologies, Pune and Dr. P. Mohanan, Professor, NITK, Surathkal.
