Sixth Graduation Day Celebrated in the Campus

The Sixth Graduation Day for the graduating students of M.Tech., MCA and B.E. of 2015-16 was held in the Campus. 550 students took an oath and received their graduation certificates from the Chief Guest, Mr. Brijesh Krishnan. Around 500 parents and relatives of the students were present to witness their children graduate on this special occasion..

Mr. Brijesh Krishnan is Associate Vice President and Head of Delivery for High Tech Consumer Electronics sector at Infosys. A Tier leader of Infosys, member of Unit Executive Council and winner of multiple Corporate Excellence awards, Brijesh has over 18years of IT experience at various leadership roles. He possesses diverse IT experience in the geographies of USA, Japan, Singapore and India. Brijesh is also an Industry speaker at NASSCOM, Karnataka & Kerala State IT Dept conferences, Indo-American Chamber of Commerce and other industry events. Brijesh did his Engineering in Electronics & Communication and MBA in Finance from Symbiosis Pune. He has specialized in “Manufacturing & Supply Chain” from IIM Bangalore and “Executing Growth Strategies” from Wharton Business School. He is also an amateur cyclist with the Mangalore Cycling Club. .

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation in his introductory remarks, recalled the first time these students visited the campus four years ago, along with their parents. The parents had a lot of questions about whether their children would get jobs and the companies that would come for campus placement. Today Sahyadri is proud to answer all their questions and apprehensions with the visit of 150 companies and over 400 students being placed.
He advised the students to work with commitment and dedication for a minimum of 2-3 years in their chosen companies and be brand ambassadors of Sahyadri. He reminiscenced that Infosys was the first company to recruit the first batch of students and thanked Infosys for being a strong support throughout. He advised the students to keep away from the stress of worldly materialistic wealth and to concentrate on their work which is in their hands. He asked them to keep their mind filled with positive attitude, love, happiness and warm memories of Sahyadri. He assured the students that the doors of Sahyadri are always open to them and wished them well in their future endeavors. The Dean Academics requested the Chief Guest to declare the Graduation Day open and was followed by the distribution of certificates to the graduating students and oath taking..
Mr. Brijesh Krishnan in his address to the graduating students recalled his own graduation day which comes with a lot of mixed feelings. You celebrate success on one side and apprehensions of a new life on the other side. He asked the students to cherish their teachers all through life as a teacher affects eternity and one can never say where a teacher’s influence stops. He took us through the 400 years of Indian economy from the independence era to the emergency era and the present economic liberalization era. He told the students to make use of the world of opportunities available in today’s flat world. He gave 3 simple advises to students, One, to take care to create a profession, because profession is different from a job which includes training and learn ability and makes you a subject expert. Second, to take care of your elders because it is their toil that makes you the person you are. And Third, not to forget the most important person, that is yourself, by taking care of yourself, physically, mentally and learning every day. He concluded by calling the graduating students as supermen and super women whose time it is now.

Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, in his vote of thanks congratulated the graduates and said that the institute was proud of their achievements. He advised the students to grow and continuously learn in life. He also called upon them to give their hundred percent in whatever they do.
Prof. Balakrishna S S, Vice Principal gave the welcome address and introduced the Chief Guest. He extended warm welcome to the dignitaries, the trustees, the parents, the press and media, the faculty, the staff and the students present on the occasion. Three of the graduating students shared their experiences of the time they spent in the Campus and expressed their gratitude to their alma mater. The formal function was followed by a photography session.

DTlabz and Vikas PU College jointly observe World Environment Day

On World Environment Day, Nishanth Kottary, Sujay Shetty, Shrajan Bhandary, Suraj Shettigar and Alistar Lasrado members of DTlabz jointly with Vikas PU College, obsesrved World Environment Day with their initiative to plant trees in barren land with the help of drones. Chief guest, Shri C.T. Ravi, MLA Chikkamangaluru, Dr. Sanjay S. Bijur, chief conservator of Forests & Shri Krishna J Palemar, chairman, Vikas PU Education Trust inaugurated the initiative. They were pleased to embed technology to eradicate deforestation. They also stressed on getting this technology as a result-orientated product to the society. The members of DTlabz interacted with the press and the students in explaining the working of the drone.

Research Collaboration with University of Central Florida, USA

Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics Communication Engineering, will be working along with Professor Varadraj Prabhu, University of Central Florida, USA, on a research project entitled "Early Cancer Detection using Machine Learning". The objective of this research project is to develop a Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) system as a “second opinion” mechanism for early detection of cancer.

CAD is established by taking into account equally the roles of physicians and computers. With CAD, the performance by computers does not have to be comparable to or better than that by physicians, but needs to be complementary to that by physicians. We intend to develop a CAD system for assisting physicians in the early detection of cancer. Mr. Bharath Bhushan, Assistant Professor, Department of MCA along with B.E. and M.Tech. students will be working on this research project.

Industry visit to JBF Petrochemicals Limited

Dr.Manjappa, Research director , Dr.C K Manjunath, administrator, Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics Communication Engineering, Mr.Vinay B U and Mr. Hanumantharaya R , Assistant Professors , Department of Mechanical engineering , visited JBF Petrochemicals Limited at Mangalore SEZ ltd area.

JBF Petrochemicals Limited is a manufacturing unit established in 2012 with an investment of 4500 crores producing PTA(para Tartalic Acid) which is an intermediate product such as Terlin, Nylon etc,. They have many unit operations to convert petrochemical raw material collected from the near by industry. Waste treatment plant has also been set up . They reuse about 75% of the water used for the process and they also generate power required for their production from their resources.

Dreamers visited Vigyan Ashram

Mr. Gautham Nayak and Ms. Achala R Shetty, of Sahyadri Edu DREAMERS R&D Pvt Ltd. visited Vigyan Ashram in Pune. They had an interaction with Dr. Yogesh Kulkarni, Executive Director of Vigyan Ashram at Pabal. The team discussed about the various initiatives of Sahyadri college – Hands On Experience Lab, SPSS,SSTH and sought  guidance regarding the same. Vigyan Ashram officials were excited to know that such an initiative is taken by the engineering college and also congratulated DTLABZ for driving the young minds in the right direction.

Dr. Yogesh Kulkarni briefed about the programme like IBT and DRBT conducted in schools at Pabal. The team also interacted with Ms. Prajna (IBT instructor) and Pawan Soni (Entrepreneurship instructor) regarding the approach of their program and its outcome.

Vigyan Ashram is a center of Indian Institute of Education (IIE) Pune. A scientist turned educationalist, Late Dr. S.S.Kalbag, started Vigyan Ashram in 1983 to find a solution to the problems in education. Vigyan Ashram’s educational program IBT (Introduction to Basic Technology) is adopted by more than 122 high schools across 4 states in India.


Principal Delivers a Talk on Professionalism in Engineering Education

Dr. U M Bhushi, Principal, delivered a talk on `Professionalism in Engineering Education’ to 100 faculty of JSS Academy of Technical Education, Bengaluru. He appraised the systematic view to technical education- A case of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management.

Principal discusses ‘What after SSLC & PUC’ on Udaya TV

Dr. U M Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management was invited by Udaya TV channel for a discussion on ‘What after SSLC & PUC.’ The questions hovered around selection of an engineering college, engineering discipline. The viewers also sought information on the modus operandi of filling option entry and in case of missing an opportunity in medicine how can they still continue their passion in medicine through engineering discipline. A few of them emphasized on what actually a project entails,while a few sought differences between Computer Science and information Science discipline.

Refresher course on “Applications of Differentiation and Integration”

The Department of Mathematics organized a refresher course on “Applications of Differentiation and Integration” in the campus. Prof. Raghavendra A, Head and Professor of Department of Mathematics, Poorna Prajna College, Udupi and Dr. Sudhakara G, Professor, Department of Mathematics, Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, were the resource persons. Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Dr. C.K .Manjunath, Administrator and faculties of all departments were present.

Prof. Raghavendra A, gave a session on applications of differentiation in day-to-day life and how to implement it in engineering.

Dr. Sudhakara.G, gave a session on applications of integration and also how to make students understand integration in a simpler way.

Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, delivered the presidential address in which he asked those present to co-relate the fields of engineering with maths and physics.

Book authored by Dr. Ananth Prabhu G , was launched

A book titled ‘Little Black Book For Teachers ‘authored by Dr. Ananth Prabhu G , Associate Professor, Department of CSE ,was launched in Mangalore by Union minister for Commerce Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister for state for home affairs Haribhai P Choudhary. Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management is proud to be sponsorer for this noble cause.

Member of Parliament of Dakshina Kannada ,Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Legislative council ,Capt. Ganesh Karnik, Trustee of Vikas Education Trust Suraj Kallya, Safwan Syed and Prof. Gopal Reddy were present during the occasion.

HCL Talent Care conducts pool campus recruitment drive at Sahyadri

HCL Talent Care conducted the pool campus recruitment drive for the engineering, MBA & MCA students of 2016 batch at our campus. 6 students have been shortlisted by the company to attend the further rounds of interview.
