Dr. K Lakshmi Narayana (Retd. IAS) addressed faculty on “Teach Next Generation Engineering”

Dr.-K-Lakshmi-Narayana-(Retd.-IAS)-addressed-faculty-on-“Teach-Next-Generation-Engineering” Dr. K Lakshmi Narayana (Retd. IAS), Founder & Director of Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) addressed Sahaydri faculty on “Teach Next Generation Engineering”. During his session, he emphasized that teachers play a vital role in building the society by transforming young minds into a great human being, the key contributors to the development of the nation. He said that “Good teachers are made & not born”. Every teacher can be extraordinary by inculcating these 5 skills: Critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration, creativity and courage. He stressed on the importance of knowing to speak different languages & encouraged the teachers to learn minimum three different languages. He said - “A good teacher is the one who makes students ask questions & creates an ambience of civilized discussion in the class room”. In his conclusion he referred to Sahyadri as Hardware created by Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary & faculty are software without virus & the combination of both can craft a benchmark in the field of education.

Dr. K Lakshmi Narayana has emerged as the most energetic scholar & spokesperson in the area of education in Andhra Pradesh during the last 10 years. He has been instrumental in drafting academic agenda & plan of action for the commissionerates of college education & technical education in Andhra Pradesh during 2004 to 2011. Dr. K L Narayana’s leadership has generated confidence among teachers as well as management and stimulated them to take up their profession with understanding and approach.

World Environment Day Programme & Inauguration of Two-Day Workshop by Department of Civil Engineering

Srinikethan, Professor, NITK Surathkal inaugurated the Two-Day Workshop on “Industrial Pollution Control” organized by the Department of Civil Engineering. While addressing the gathering, the chief guest, highlighted the vital role of environment in striking a balance between the social and personal life of every individual. He said – “Environment is for everyone and it is the moral responsibility of every individual irrespective of one’s profession to safeguard the environment”.

Prof. K S Lokesh, Registrar, JSS Science and Technology University, JSS Technical Institutions’ Campus, Mysore delivered a theme speech on the occasion. He spoke about the importance of belongingness towards nature and considering oneself to be an integral part of it. He stressed on how important it is for every individual to selflessly work towards the betterment of the environment. He concluded his talk by quoting that ‘Modern Technology Owes an Apology to Ecology’.

Mr. P Purandar Shetty, Manager Personnel, BASF, Mangaluru spoke about various environmental issues and presented several facts and figures pertaining to it.

The inaugural function was followed by technical session’s viz. ‘Sustainable Development through Industrial Activities’ by Dr. G Srinikethan. Prof. K S Lokesh facilitated a session on ‘Climate Change Causes – Impacts and Control’. The third session was on ‘Risk Assessment and Emergency Maintenance Plan in Chemical Industries’ by Dr. G. Srinikethan followed by a session on ‘Solid waste Management Including Bio Medical and Hazardous Waste’ by Dr. Lakshmikanth and the last session of the Day One was on ‘EIA Notification – 2006’ by Prof. M M Kamath. An industrial visit to MRPL, Surathkal has also been organized for the participants as a part of this Two-Day Workshop.

Saraswathi, Nodal Officer, CET Centre, Mangaluru. Prathik has an overall score of 99.27. He has scored 578 out of 600 in PUC. He is the son of Mr. Shrikanth Nayak, Businessman and Ms. Sangeetha who is a homemaker.

Students who have cleared CET would visit the CET Verification Centre, Govt. of Karnataka at Sahyadri for their Document Verification and get the eligibility to admit into Professional UG Courses.

Civil Engineering Students secured First Place in Paper Presentation & Second Place in Project Presentation at “Srishti 2017”

Mr. Cavin Vijay & Ms. M R Radhika of Eighth semester won first place in the Paper Presentation competition. They were guided by Prof. Jayaram, Department of Civil Engineering.

Mr. Jeethan Grinal Rodrigues, Ms. Priya Javalgi, Mr. Roshan Rajendra Dhawde & Mr. Shivakumar Manjunath Naik of Eighth semester won second place in Project Presentation. They were guided by Prof. Manohar K, Department of Civil Engineering.

VTU results of Semester VII of all Engineering streams are declared. Out of 575 students who appeared for the VTU Examination 2016-17, 133 students passed with distinction, 240 with a first class and 86 students with second class.

A paper based on final year M.Tech dissertation (Branch: Structural Engineering) titled - “Seismic Isolation of RC Framed Structure with and without Infills”, authored by Mr. Harsha M S, Department of Civil Engineering and co-authored by his Project Guide Prof. Manohar K, Department of Civil Engineering has been published in International Journal of Civil Engineering and Technology (IJCIET), Volume 8, Issue 2.
