Two-Day PGCET Training Programme organized by Department of Business Administration

Two-Day-PGCET-Training-Concludes During the Inaugural programme of Two-Day PGCET Training, Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Department of Business Administration welcomed the gathering and gave a brief of our institution and the department. Prof. Sushma V, Faculty co-ordinator of the programme shared the relevance of conducting this training and also the schedule for the two days. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, encouraged the participants to consider the training as learning for life and enjoy the learning process.

The programme had participation from MBA Aspirants in huge numbers who aimed to achieve good ranking in the PGCET that would be held on July 2nd 2017 and thereby get MBA admission in Top B-Schools of Karnataka under Government Quota.

During the two days of training, participants were trained on four subjects of PGCET facilitated by the in-house faculty namely, Dr. Vidyavathi, Prof. Raghavendra Prabhu, Prof. Mithun Ullal, Prof. Gayathri Shetty & Prof. Prajwala Rodrigues. Mr. Vivekanand Kamath, Director, V-Reach Coaching Academy, Udupi was also one of the facilitators. Participants even wrote Mock PGCET which was evaluated and ranked. Top scorers in the Mock test were appreciated and awarded during the Valedictory Ceremony by the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary while addressing the participants urged them to evaluate self thoroughly, in order to get a clear picture on their career and future plans. It was encouraging to see participants volunteer to share their opinion about the PGCET Training Programme.

Parents of New Entrants Oriented in the Campus The Orientation for the parents of the new entrants to the engineering stream was held in the Campus. Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary extended a warm welcome and addressed the gathered parents, providing them an overview of Sahyadri and its growth since inception. He referred to Engineering as a learning process and one must enjoy the process of learning.

He encouraged the parents to share their responsibilities with their wards and develop a friendly relationship with them. He also advised the parents to make their ward self-dependent, and insisted that skill and personality development be taught from home. He stressed on the need of having a job offer on completion of the engineering course and insisted that parents avail educational loans, in order to make their ward financially responsible. Smart Skill is the need of the hour he added.

Parents of New Entrants Oriented in the Campus Principal, Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, in his concluding remarks narrated live examples in connection to the student’s attitude. He placed the list of Achievements, Campus highlights, Placement statistics and explained the code of conduct that every student has to follow in the campus.

Two-Day Workshop on ‘Industrial Pollution control Concluded

Two-Day Workshop on ‘Industrial Pollution control’ was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering as a part of World Environment Day on the theme – Connect with Nature. The concluding day of the workshop saw sessions on ‘Water and Air Pollution Modelling for Predictions of Impacts’ by Dr. Manoj Kumar, ‘Traffic Impact Assessment for Large Scale Developments in India’ by Prof M N Srihari, ‘Presentation on Emerging Technologies in Waste water treatment for Recycling and Reuse by Dr. C T Puttaswamy, ‘Environmental Lean Insight to EIA Notification’ by Dr. Thimmaiah, ‘Environmental Regulation’ by Mr. S Nanda Kumar. An industrial visit to MRPL, Surathkal was also organized for the participants.

Guests-for-suggestions-on-Development-of-Maths-Lab-at-Kuppam,-Tamilnadu Mr. Ajith Basu, Chief Executive, Mr. Ananthnag M, Project Officer and Mr. R Bharath Raj, Programme Manager of Agastya International Foundation visited our institution and had a discussion with Dr. C. K. Manjunath, Prof. of Humanities & Administrator regarding the development of Maths Lab at Kuppam in Tamilnadu. This organization is an NGO which works on the backward education districts across the globe. They work on Government school children and Teachers. They reach the rural people and propagate science education with values. They also interacted with Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary and members of DT lab.

Fifteen-Day Foundation Course for Engineering Fresher’s

Fifteen-Day-Foundation-Course-for-Engineering-Fresher’s A Fifteen-Day Foundation course on Mathematics and Computer Programme kick-started for the fresher’s of engineering. Prof. Prashantha Rao, HoD, Mathematics briefed about the Mathematics course and facilitated a session on basic Analytical problems appearing in interviews. Prof. Prakhyath Rai, Information Science Engineering, briefed about the basics & importance of computer and also about computer language in engineering.

Prof. Richard Pinto was invited as PhD Viva-Voce External Examiner at IIT Hyderabad

Prof. Richard Pinto, Director-CENT, visited IIT Hyderabad as external examiner for conducting Ph.D. Viva Voce exam of the student of Prof. Shiv Govind Singh, a well-known faculty of Department of Electrical Engineering. During the visit, Prof. Pinto discussed collaborative R&D programme between Sahyadri and IITH. Prof. Singh has agreed for collaborative R&D effort. As a beginning, it was agreed that we will propose 2 DST-SERB Proposals - one on Vibration Sensors with IITH contributing in circuit part, and the other, on Ammonia Sensors. In both proposals IITH will be the lead institution for increasing the chances of approval by DST; however the funding will be equally proportioned.

Principal’s Research Student successfully defended his doctoral thesis

Mr. Shivagond N Teli, Research Scholar registered under Dr. Umesh M Bhushi in Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, successfully defended his doctoral thesis on “Using Quality Cost Assessment to Improve Quality - A Case of the Indian Automobile Industry” on 14th June 2017. His other supervisor was Dr. V S Majali, Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department, GIT, Belagavi. The outcome of his dissertation produced 14 International Journal Publications, 2 International Conferences, 3 National conferences. Also, it is expected to bring out 2 books relevant to the research work.

Mr. S N Teli is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Saraswati College of Engineering, Kharghar, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai with 20 years of teaching experience. He has 86 publications in renowned journals, with 12 books, 1 patent and 4 more applied.

He is the fourth candidate to be awarded the doctoral degree under Dr. Umesh M Bhushi.

Dr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering has been working in the area of Computer Vision over past 5 years. He has collaborated with various Professors, Researchers and Students in USA, India and jointly published 22 Research articles in Science Citation Indexed (SCI) Journals, 06 Research articles in Emerging Sources Citation Indexed (ESCI) Journals, 08 Research articles in Scopus (Elsevier) indexed journals, 16 Book Chapters in Springer Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing (AISC), 20 Research articles in various IEEE, ACM, Elsevier international conferences which has received 221 Google citations with h-index 10 and i10-index 10

Prof. Sudheer Shetty appointed as Dean Examinations

Wish u a Happy Basava Jayanthi Prof. Sudheer Shetty, HoD of Computer Science & Engineering Department has taken over as the Dean Examinations of our institute effective 10th June 2017. He has completed his BE & M.Tech from K. V. G. College of Engineering, Sullia. Currently, he is pursuing his PhD from VTU, Belagavi. He has got 17 years of experience in teaching and 3 years of experience in research. His areas of interest are Cloud Computing, Theory of Computation, System Programming & Operations Research. We congratulate him for the new role and also wish him good luck.

She has completed her B.E in Computer Science & Engineering from Mangalore Institute of Technology, Moodbidri and M.Tech in Computer Network Engineering from N.M.A.M.I.T, Nitte. Her area of Specialization is Computer Network Engineering.
