International Yoga Day at Sahyadri

International Yoga Day at Sahyadri International Yoga Day was observed at the Campus. Mr. Govind Prabhu, Retd. Senior Manger, Karnataka Bank Ltd. delivered the talk on “Yoga for Health” and demonstrated the same.

The meaning of the word Yoga is "Union". It is derived from the Sanskrit root "yuj," meaning to join, or to unite. International yoga day is celebrated on the 21st of June every year as it is the longest day of the year. It is celebrated in 177 countries practicing 3S program – Swatch (Cleanliness), Swasth (Healthy) and Samarth (Wealthy). Yoga makes us to live in the present. Ashtanga Yoga is most widely practiced everywhere of which, Maharishi Patanjali is the founder. Yoga teaches us four basic principles Yama, Niyama, Asana & Pranayama.

International Yoga Day at Sahyadri Mr. Govind Prabhu, served in the banking industry for 41 years. During his stay at Rajasthan in 1997 he met Baba Ram Dev and learnt Yoga. Today, he is Dakshina Kannada Unit Patanjali Yoga Samiti – Treasurer. He is a certified trainer and conducts yoga classes at various reputed institutions in and around Mangalore. He expressed his happiness and appreciated the initiatives taken at Sahyadri to promote yoga.

Dr. C K Manjunath, Administrator Welcomed and introduced the guest to the gathering, Dr. U M Bhushi, Principal presided over the function and gave his presidential remarks.

VTU results of Semester V of all Engineering streams are declared. Out of 696 students who appeared for the VTU Examination 2016-17, 203 students passed with distinction, 257 with a first class and 105 students with second class.

BWSSB Workshop on Feasibility Study of Coastal Reservoir across Netravati River BWSSB workshop on Feasibility Study of Coastal Reservoir across Netravati River was conducted in our campus with participation from renowned scientists, academicians & industry experts.

The Chief Guest of the day was Dr. Prahlada Ramarao, Padma Shri-2015, Former Distinguished Scientist & CC R&D DRDO, Former Vice Chancellor, DIAT(DU), DRDO, Ministry of Defense, Pune. Other distinguished guests include Mr. Rahul Priyadarshini, Chief Engineer, BWSSB, Karnataka & Dr. Lingaraju Yale, National Director, River Rejuvenation project, Art of Living (AOL).

There were deliberations on Skype from International Professors - Prof. Shuqing Yang & Prof. M. Sivakumar, University of Wollogong, Australia and Mr. Li, Professor from Malaysia. Varied academicians, researchers from IISc, NITK Surathkal, NIT Trichy and Amrita were also present. Renowned industry expert Mr. Kushal Shetty, GM, BRS Ventures also attended the workshop. Dr. Partha Sarathy, Sarathy Geotech Services, Bengaluru, CETCO Lining Technologies India Pvt Ltd. Mumbai, CIFT also participated in the event. Engineers of BWSSB Mr. Deshpande, Mumbai & Mr. Amit Bartakke made their representation.

BWSSB Workshop on Feasibility Study of Coastal Reservoir across Netravati River This workshop was organized under the leadership of Prof. T. G. Sitharam, IISC. The outcome of the workshop when implemented will have a significant impact in the state and country water resources.

Second Batch of Orientation for the Parents of New Entrants to Engineering Second batch of Orientation for the parents of the new entrants to the engineering stream was held in the Campus. Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary extended a warm welcome and addressed the gathered parents, providing them an overview of Sahyadri and its growth since inception. During his talk, he urged the parents to share responsibilities with their children and develop a friendly relationship with them. He also advised the parents to make their children self-dependent and insisted that skill & personality development be driven from home. He stressed on the need of having a job offer on completion of the engineering course and suggested to avail educational loan in order to make their child financially responsible.

Principal, Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, in his concluding remarks narrated live examples in connection to the student’s attitude. He placed the list of Achievements, Campus highlights, Placement statistics and stressed on discipline & code of conduct that every student has to follow in the campus.

Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director, Research & Consultancy is now the Member of Academic Advisory Committee - Indian Technology Congress (ITC) 2017. ITC-2017 will facilitate an ecosystem for business, entrepreneurs, researchers, and policy-makers to engage, evaluate technologies, and suggest the execution roadmap for seamless integration of technologies to create new globally competitive industries that will usher in an era of industrial excellence in the country. ITC-2017 will link global technological advances with India-specific initiatives including 'Make in India', 'Digital India', 'Smart Cities' to ensure benefits of engineering and technology reach out to the society.

Guest Lecture for MBAs on Tax filing and GST Ms. Yashashwini K Amin, Chartered Account working as an Associate with CA S S Nayak delivered a talk to MBA students on the topic "Filing of IT returns & Introduction to GST". During her session, she enlightened the participants about filing taxes using various softwares like winman, saral etc. She highlighted the advantages and disadvantages of GST and also shared information on how it is different in contrast to the existing Indirect taxes. The talk was concluded with an interactive Question & Answer session.

AKSEE Online exam for 2nd PUC students held at Sahyadri Computer Lab

AKSEE Online exam for 2nd PUC students held at Sahyadri Computer Lab All Karnataka Scholarship Entrance Examination (AKSEE) provided by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Educational Trust for 2nd PUC Students was held in Sahyadri Computer Lab. AKSEE provides Engineering and Medical Scholarship for students. To earn the aids of scholarship, students have to qualify the All Karnataka Scholarships Entrance Examination. Seventy students attended online AKSEE at Sahyadri.

Mr. Sachin Acharya T has joined the Department of Computer Science & Engineering as an Assistant Professor. He has completed his B.E and M.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering from P.E.S. College of Engineering, Mandya. His area of Specialization is Computer Science.

Ms. Poornima D has joined the Department of Civil Engineering as an Assistant Professor. She has completed her B.E in Civil Engineering from J.N.N.C.E, Shimoga & M.Tech in Sri Devi Institute of Engineering & Technology, Tumkur. Her area of specialization is Computer Aided Design of Structures.

Dr. Vishal Samartha invited as Chief Guest at Sharada College, Mangaluru

BWSSB Workshop on Feasibility Study of Coastal Reservoir across Netravati River Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Department of Business Administration was invited as Chief Guest for the Inauguration of the Academic Year 2017-18, the new batch of B.COM, BBM, and B.SC Animation at Sharada College, Mangaluru. In her inaugural address, Dr. Vishal Samartha emphasised on time and shared anecdotes that brought out the learning - “Use your Time or else you will lose your time”. She introduced the students to working with pleasure in all phase of life which will never become a pressure to work. She stressed on the need to have a goal, when unable to reach the goal, not to change the goal but change the strategy to reach the goal. She also encouraged the students to grab opportunities available in their college as it does not knock the door every time.
