Commemoration of 5th International Yoga Day at Sahyadri Commemoration of 5th International Yoga Day at Sahyadri Sahyadri College NSS unit in association with Sharada Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy Hospital, Talapady and The New Indian Express, Mangaluru conducted practical yoga session for bridge course students and faculty delegates of AICTE sponsored FDP. The programme began with a formal welcome by Mrs. Shreelatha U.A., Academic Administrative Officer and NSS Programme Co-ordinator. Mrs Akshaya Shetty, Asst. Professor, Department of Humanities lead the participants in the Yogic mantras.

Das, Sr. Manager, and Mr. Dhanuraj, Manager Marketing and Mr. Vikram Kuntar, Head - Strategic Relations, Sharada Ayurveda Medical College & Hospital, Sharada Yoga, Naturopathy College, Hospital & Research Centre Devinagara, Talapady, Mangaluru spoke on the occasion. Dr R Srinivas Roa Kunte, Principal addressed the gathering and gave his best wishes to the participants. The practical session was conducted by Dr. Sowmya Neelesh Kotiyan and Dr. Vidya Shetty, Medical Officer, Sharada Ayurveda Medical College & Hospital Sharada Yoga, Naturopathy College, Hospital & Research Centre. 140 students and 40 faculty participated in the event. Mr. Ankith S. Kumar, Student Counsellor facilitated the programme.

Sahyadri hosts a Seven-Day FDP on “Student Induction” for the faculty of AICTE approved institutions Sahyadri hosts a Seven-Day FDP on “Student Induction” for the faculty of AICTE approved institutions A Seven-Day Faculty Development Programme (Residential) on “Student Induction” for the faculty of AICTE approved institution during 18th to 24th June’19 was inaugurated by Mr. Ashok Kumar Gopala, Former IT Professional, Organic Farmer as well as facilitator for Jeevan Vidya Workshops. The workshop is organized by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to equip the teaching faculty to conduct the mandatory induction programme on Human Values based on Jeevan Vidya module. More than 70 faculty members from all over the country will be undergoing this seven-day residential workshop on Human values in our campus.
The workshop began with a formal inaugural presided by Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal. Prof. Ravichandhra, Dean–Industry Connect & Head of Mechanical Engineering Department welcomed the gathering. Prof. S S Balakrishna, Vice-Principal addressed the faculty too. Ms. Shreelatha U A, Academic Administrative Officer and Co-Coordinator of the workshop facilitated the formal inaugural programme. These 7 days will include various sessions and activities conducted for the faculty to make them have a better understanding of universal human values and thereby help the students become better citizens.

Two-Day PGCET Training, a Community Initiative at Sahyadri The inaugural ceremony of Two-Day PGCET Training Programme organized by the Dept. of Business Administration-MBA was held in the campus. Over 200 students from various places like Bengaluru, Thirthahalli, Shimoga, Kasaragod, Kumta, Kundapura, Udupi, Bhatkal and Mangaluru aspiring to pursue MBA under Government quota in Top B-Schools of Karnataka participated in the programme.

Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA welcomed the gathering and said that this ‘Community Initiative’ of Sahyadri is conducted to create awareness about the government quota in the B-Schools and also to provide training to the graduates so that they could join their dream institute to pursue their MBA degree. Prof. Sushma V, Chief Coordinator of the programme briefed the audience about the relevance of organizing this event. She introduced the in-house facilitators and external trainers to the audience. Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal, in his Presidential address, appreciated the students for the genuineness with which they are preparing for the entrance exam. He also said that the rank that they get in the PGCET exam is secondary but priority is choosing their “Dream College” to pursue MBA during Option Entry.

Two-Day PGCET Training, a Community Initiative at Sahyadri Two-Day PGCET Training, a Community Initiative at Sahyadri The morning session on ‘Quantitative Analysis’ was facilitated by Mr. N S Gopala Krishna Bhat, Founder of Trisha Group of Institutions and the CEO of Siddhanth Learning Solutions Pvt Ltd. The afternoon session on ‘Logical Reasoning & Intelligence’ was facilitated by Mr. Vivekananda Kamath, Director-VReach Coaching Academy, Udupi and the Principal of Brainsoft Academy, Brahmavar.

This programme concluded with a Valedictory Ceremony in the presence of Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary. Mr. Bhandary while addressing the participants urged them to evaluate themselves thoroughly so as to get a clear picture about their career. He told the students not to consider MBA as an extended degree but a unique course which is based on skills of individuals. He urged them to utilize this opportunity to build network with other participants and see that their goals for future are fixed much before they join the MBA course. They should work on their choice of specialization and have a skill check before joining any stream. Finally, he wished them good luck and asked them to evaluate the options available to do MBA and also make a comparative study, before they choose their dream destination to do MBA course.

The next session was on ‘General Knowledge’ facilitated by Prof. Guruprasad Rao, Dean-Branding & Promotion.

Valedictory Ceremony of the Two-Day PGCET Training Programme Participants also wrote a Mock Test covering all 4 areas in the syllabus of PGCET. Students were then evaluated and ranked. Top scorers in the Mock test were appreciated and awarded. It was encouraging to see participants volunteer to share their opinion about the PGCET Training Programme. The USP of the programme was the “PGCET Practice Book” exclusively designed under the leadership of Prof. Raghavendra Prabhu which was presented to the PGCET Training participants.

Civil Engineering Department initiates collaborative studies with professors in two American universities Civil Engineering Department initiates collaborative studies with professors in two American universities Dr. Premanand Shenoy, Professor of Civil Engineering during his recent visit interacted with two eminent professors viz. Dr. Yail Jimmy Kim, P.Eng., F.ACI, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Colorado Denver, USA and Dr. John W. Van de Lindt, Ph.D., F. ASCE, F. SEI Harold H. Short Endowed Chair Professor Co-Director, Center for Risk-Based Community Resilience Planning Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado, USA, for collaborative studies in two thrust areas of Civil Engineering.

Dr. Shenoy had discussions with Dr. Yail Jimmy Kim, who is actively involved in the research related to Composite Materials and Smart Structures, on the possibility of academic association in the research work being carried out in the Civil Engineering Department of Sahyadri in the similar field.

At the Sahyadri Research Centre Mr. Sunil Kumar, Mr. Shishirkrishna and Mrs. Deepthishree Aithal are carrying out their research work in laminated composite panels and corrugated sheets. Dr. Kim looks forward to possible collaborative opportunities with Sahyadri.

In another meeting with Dr. John W. Van de Lindt, Dr. Shenoy exchanged his views on Sensors, Instrumentation and Similitude studies on the behaviour of structures during earthquakes. This is the field of research taken up by Mrs. Smitha, Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering. Dr. John also has expressed his keen interest in associating with Sahyadri.

Introductory session for the Future Skills 3D Printing and Robotics

Bridge Course for the Engineering Batch 2019 Professor Ravichandra K. Rangappa, Dean-Industry and HoD, Mechanical Department facilitated the first session for the Future Skills Sahyadri 3D Printing and Robotics. He spoke on the topic "What is in the 3D Printing". He briefed about the process involved in 3D printing and gave deep insight into the 3D printing area. Dr. Anush Bekal briefed about the importance of future skills and roles and responsibility of members of Future Skill group.


Campus Recruitment Drive - Maventic

Campus Recruitment Drive - Maventic Maventic Innovative Solutions Pvt Ltd. conducted a pool campus recruitment drive for the Computer Science & Engineering and Information Science & Engineering students of 2019 outgoing batch. Mr. Prasad Inamdar - BDM and Mr. Shreekanth Mayya - Consultant from Maventic were at the campus to facilitate the process. A total of 26 candidates participated in the drive and the results are awaited.

Campus Recruitment Drive - Extramarks Education India Pvt. Ltd. Extramarks Education India Pvt. Ltd. conducted a Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for all branches of 2019 outgoing batch of engineering students. Mr. Achint Mathur, HR accompanied by Mr. Aditya Belachada, Business Development Manager from Extramarks were at the campus to facilitate the process. A total of 35 students from various colleges in Mangaluru participated in the drive and the results are awaited.

Parent Interaction for the third batch of new entrants to the Engineering stream 2019

Commemoration of 5th International Yoga Day at Sahyadri “Ten years since the inception of Sahyadri College what we have learnt from parents and students, I am here to share with you today”. With these words our Chairman Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, facilitated the Interaction Session for the third batch of parents of new entrants to the Engineering Mr. Bhandary spoke on the concept of Acceptance and urged the parents to accept Engineering wholeheartedly as the best option. This, he said will have a positive impact on the students.

While talking on the difference between PUC and Engineering studies, he emphasized that engineering involves learning skills and values of life. Where placements are concerned, engineering focuses on career and is profession oriented, he said.

Speaking about Sahyadri, he said the college offers various activities where the students are exposed to internship programs, latest technology, Industry and all round activities. They are also offered a platform to compete in various national and international events. The students are exposed to various social connect programs.

Mr. Bhandary stressed on the responsibility of the parents towards their children and urged the parents to be a friend to their child. He spoke about the fee structure and said that the money invested by the parents is but for their child’s own future which could get them into the best career.

Dr. R. Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal, in his address requested parents to monitor their child’s performance, attendance and marks in various exams. He wished the parents All the Best for their child’s future.

Yoga for foundation course students


Yoga for foundation course students Sahyadri College NSS Unit organised a Yoga Demonstration and Practice session for 70 students attending the foundation course, as an initial introductory program to the practice of Yoga in daily life. The programme was held as a part of the International Yoga Day to be observed in our college tomorrow 21st June 2019. Mrs Shreelatha U.A., NSS Programme Coordinator addressed the students about the importance of Yoga. Mr Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor conducted the practical session. All the students participated with enthusiasm.

Indian Technology Congress 2019 on the theme “Human Digitalization: Future Intelligence” is being organized in Bengaluru from 4-5 September 2019. The ITCA and the professional societies organizing ITC-2019 have identified Dr. Manjappa Sarathy, Director-Research as an industry leader whose views and opinions are well-received by the Industry and Academia. They have invited Dr. Sarathy to join the Academic Advisory Committee and share his valuable feedback on strengthening ITC-2019 deliver value to all stakeholders.

Faculty invited as a Resource Person to train Engineers from Professional Bodies Prof. Hemanth Prabhu of Dept. of Civil Engineering was invited as the resource person for the Training programme for officials of PWD, Zilla Panchayat and Irrigation Department organized by Govt UBDT College of Engineering, Davangere. The technical lecture included topics like Design of Surplus weir, Design of Canal Drop, Design of Canal Regulator, Operation of Irrigation Canals. A total of 45 officials from all over the state were a part of this session. Prof. Hemanth Prabhu received immense appreciation for his lecture from the organizers and also from the participants during the feedback session.
